Astropaths and Cybernetic eyes

Recommended Posts

AFAIK Astropaths can't see normally even with cybernetic eyes. It is not only their natural eyes which are destroyed during the soul binding, but the corresponding nerves as well, leaving the cybernetics with nothing that could ever receive the signals they send.

Yup.

However, refer to the trait on page 367 of Rogue Trader.  Physical blindness doe not always occur.  You may even find a GM which allows for one of the other penalties for an Astropath.  However, it would be an extremely rare exception; maybe less then 1 in 100,000 astropaths (likely even less), and I would personally say they lose the whole psychic sight thing they would normally get to compensate.

It should be noted that many Astropaths suffer a slow degradation of their other physical senses over the course of their lives as well, slowly becoming more and more reliant on their psychic perception to compensate for becoming increasingly deaf, anosmic, ageusic. Even ones that survive with their sight intact may not remain that way forever, slowly losing their sight along with their other senses. It'd be an extremely rare and extremely lucky individual to not only retain their senses immediately after the Soul Binding, but to retain them long-term as well.

The Emperor's Light burns hot and fast within them... this is the price they pay for it, for it is the last thing that most of them will ever see.
