Babyblue 22 Posted August 5, 2010 Hi, all I've played throught the game a few times and I'm still learning, but there are a few questions that keep coming up. 1. "A gate and a monster apear". I thought you didn't have to fight a monster if a gate opened up on your location, and since Arkham encaounter-monsters disapear, what's the point? 2.Are monsters on a rumour card considered to be in play? Like if a card tells you to return all Fire Vampires in play, do you return the ones on a rumour? And what if the activity is in Miskatonic U and a card tells you to return all monsters in MU, do you return the rumour/activity monsters? 3. What happens to the monsters in the outskirts when the Terror track reaches lvl 10? 4. Does anything happen to monsters garding gates if the gate closes? 5. Ancient one battle with Ithaqua: Is clue tokens considered items? 6. When there is a battle with an ancient one and a spell says "+6 to combat check until end of this combat", do you have to recast it for every turn, or just the once? Cim2 1 Posted August 5, 2010 1) The monster that appears in "a gate and a monster appear" is the monster from the gate opening, and so remains. 2) No. Terrible Experiment monsters are not affected by anything that normally affects monsters except fighting them as stated on the card. You can't even use Flute of the Outer Gods to clear them all off at once (though you can use it to beat one of them) 3) Return them to the monster cup 4) No, though one of the "official" variants is that they disappear too. 5) No. 6) Every turn. In the rule book it says that monsters that apear as a result of an arkham encounter disapears after the encounter. Or am I wrong? Thanks for all your help. I'm a little wiser then I were a few minutes ago
Veet 3 Posted August 5, 2010 While it is true that when an encounter says a monster appears that monster returns to the cup after the encounter it has been ruled that when the encounter says a gate and a monster appears then that monster remains because a monster always exits an opening gate. jgt7771 28 Posted August 5, 2010 Official FAQ, Page 2: Many encounters state that “A gate and a monster appear!” For these encounters, both the monster and the gate stay on the board. However, many other encounters state that just a monster appears. For example, one of the Black Cave encounters states “A monster appears!” and one of the Hibb’s Roadhouse encounters states “A horrible monster appears!” When a monster but not a gate appears in an encounter, the monster does not stay on the board. If such a monster is defeated, players may take it as a trophy (unless its special ability states otherwise). If the monster is not defeated, it is returned to the monster cup, regardless of whether the investigator evades the monster or is knocked unconscious or driven insane by it.
