Steve-O 473 Posted June 25, 2010 Well, there have been rumblings recently about putting together a list of fan made scenarios in one place for easy reference. Both for new players who desperately want something once they've played the original scenarios to death and have no idea where to look, and also for old hands who might have missed something. I seem to have a little time on my hands these days, so I've decided to shoulder this burden and see what comes of it. The first step will be to locate and collect as many fan scenarios as we can. Single shot maps and campaigns of multiple levels, all are welcome. If your fan made content includes a large number of house rules of homebrewed monsters/weapons/whatever, please be sure to mention that. I think I'd like to compile separate lists of "scenarios that require new bits or house rules" and "scenarios that can be played with what's in the box(es)" That way people reading the compiled list can easily weed out one category or the other based on their personal preference. For now I just want as much content as I can find, and I will be surfing the web myself, but I welcome others to point stuff out here in this thread. When submitting something to the list, please try to follow these guidelines: 1) Please check previous posts to make sure the scenarios you're adding are new and haven't been added already 2) Please try to provide a link to a website where the scenario can be found. If you don't know of any website, PM me and we'll figure something out. 2) Please mention if the scenarios use extensive house rules or require some arts and crafts to make new monsters or weapons, etc 3) Please make sure to mention the original author of the scenario in your post (whether it's you or someone else whose stuff you found on the web) 4) If you've designed a scenario and come here to find someone else submitted it, feel free to promote yourself, but don't resubmit the scenario unless you've made changes since the version submitted. 5) IF YOU SEE SOMETHING YOU MADE AND ITS INCORRECTLY CREDITED TO SOMEONE ELSE, PLEASE PM ME INSTEAD OF POSTING HERE. We'll try to figure out what happened and make sure the right person gets credit, but I'd prefer not to see this thread devolve into a flamewar about who made what. Also, please be prepared to back up your claims with whatever evidence you might have. Hopefully that last one won't be a huge issue. Everyone around here seems pretty nice, and since nothing's for profit anyway, I'm hoping there won't be too many shenanigans. Still, I'd like to be prepared for the worst. Assuming this goes well, future steps in the process will be to rank fan made content on a five-star system, compile a shorter list of "best of the best" stuff and ultimately to provide one single place where all the scenarios can be found for those who want a simple reference point for new material. I'll either update this thread or make a new one when the time comes to move on past the collection phase.
FoxPhoenix135 0 Posted June 25, 2010 Question: what formats are acceptable for submission? I assume PDF, but will .doc format be permissible as well?
Steve-O 473 Posted June 26, 2010 FoxPhoenix135 said: Question: what formats are acceptable for submission? I assume PDF, but will .doc format be permissible as well? PDF, DOC, JPG. All file formats are acceptable. If I can't open the file myself I might have to get someone to convert it for me (if possible) but the original format can still be submitted for the benefit of those who can open it. If everything is set up for download on a given website, all you really need to give me is a link to that website. Later on we'll worry about compiling everything into one uniform package, for now I just want to get as many scenarios as possible in one place for examination. Steve-O 473 Posted June 27, 2010 Leading by example, here are a few scenarios I've found doing a quick sweep of BGG: "Classic Doom" by Aaron Tubbs. A set of 9 maps designed after the levels from Knee Deep in the first game. Pretty cool IMHO. www.boardgamegeek.com/filepage/54881/classic-doom-scenarios "Jupiter Rising" and "Congo" are a pair of scenarios by Barbarian Wanderer (this link I stole from another thread right here ): s337.photobucket.com/home/BarbarianWanderer "Rescue the Scientist" by Knuckles Eki: www.boardgamegeek.com/filepage/45807/rescue-of-the-scientist These are just a few. I'll post more later on. I noticed a rather large slew of French scenarios on BGG which I will look at in greater detail and see about translating into English as well. FoxPhoenix135 0 Posted June 27, 2010 I have started to write a couple, but I only have one finished so far. I was hoping you might double-check that it downloads ok, and that all the pics and stuff are included (as it is in .doc form, office '97 or open office should work). http://filefactory.com/file/b24882c/n/whatnightmaresmaycome.doc
shnar 52 Posted June 27, 2010 This is giving me an idea once we get the scenarios together, we can compile two documents (well, probably more than that, but 2 types). One that is a collection of stand-alone missions, and one that is a collection of "campaign" missions, ones that have special, inter-linked rules. -shnar
Nerdmeister 144 Posted June 28, 2010 I´m also currently trying to compose my first scenario. Don´t know when Ill post it though (not sure Im ever going to be completely satisfied, but that´s just my OCD talking ) Would be great to see more scenarios though cause I frequently use stand-alone scenarios for a single night of fun

The link you provided worked fine for me, and the file opened normally in OpenOffice. I mostly just glanced at the content, but it looks like a perfectly good submission. =)
Steve-O 473 Posted June 30, 2010 Here's Tibs' famous "Episode 3" scenario pack. This one definitely qualifies as having house rules, as basically all the monsters and marine weapons have been re-written to employ Tibs's house rules and be balanced against one another as such. The first link is to the scenarios themselves, the next two links are for the modified invaders and marine weapons. www.boardgamegeek.com/filepage/35353/doom-tbg-episode-3 www.boardgamegeek.com/filepage/35432/tibss-monster-mods www.boardgamegeek.com/filepage/35358/tibss-weapon-mods
Interceptor2 0 Posted July 1, 2010 Steve-O: Thanks for including the link to the scenarios I made that are posted on my photobucket page. I put a lot of work into these, kind of so I'd have more Doom missions to play. Once I finished the scenarios, I figured other players could make use of these scenarios, so I posted them on photobucket. Anyone's free to use them or publish them . I only ask that I am credited as author. Also, if anyone has any feedback on these scenarios, let me know. I think compiling a list of fan-made Doom scenarios is a great idea. I'm in and I have some new scenarios for Doom in the works I hope to get posted soon. If anyone wants to look at or download my scenarios, here's the link to my photobucket page: http://s337.photobucket.com/home/BarbarianWanderer . Steve-O 473 Posted July 8, 2010 Okay, here's some more scenarios, mostly leeched off BGG. I haven't been having a lot of luck finding stuff other places than there, sadly. Other people can feel free to pitch in maps if they know of another source, btw =) Anyway: Do as You're Told and Reclaiming the Base, two quick series of maps by one Tom Korpipaa. boardgamegeek.com/filepage/24612/reclaiming-the-base-complete-1-1-pdf Another set of 7 quick scenarios with no flavour text, also by Tom. Good for a quick game if you just want new maps and don't care about story: boardgamegeek.com/filepage/18950/short_scenarios-zip Here's a cute little introductory mission by Dima Nemchenko. It involves a little arts and crafts to play the way he suggests, although I think it could be played using normal rules, too: boardgamegeek.com/filepage/22662/baptism_of_hellfire_v1-7-pdf Another, really big mission by Tibs and his friend Dan K. I hadn't known about this one before today and as I love Tibs' previous maps, I was pretty excited to find it. Designed for use with Tibs's house rules, the download zip includes his modified weapons and monsters, as above. This one requires the expansion set and claims to use "as many tiles as possible." Awesome! boardgamegeek.com/filepage/17760/olympushorror_superlevel-zip Meltdown by Bluebehir. It has a few scenario-specific rules and "non-frag related victory conditions." Looks like it might be interesting: boardgamegeek.com/filepage/10515/meltdown-zip That's all for now, folks. I've downloaded a few French scenarios that I'm going to see about translating into English, so that will be forthcoming. If you have something else to add, don't be shy! RedMageStatscowski 117 Posted July 9, 2010 I have like 4 or something maps in BGG. The reason I haven't made any new maps for a while is... well... out of ideas. I have to say 'Do as you're told' and 'Reclaiming the Base' is very good, the current campaign my group is doing.
Julia 2,809 Posted July 9, 2010 It's not a long time since I started playing Doom (we played only three games, by now), so the game is pretty new to me, so I'm quite a newbye, but... I think Steve idea is great! Thanks everybody for their submissions and for gathering in a single thread all this stuff .-)
EeT-MeeL 0 Posted July 10, 2010 I have been wanting to make my own scenario for a while now. Is there a computer program that can help me? Perhaps a visual assembly interface? It is just tedious drawing the thing out on graph paper.
EeT-MeeL 0 Posted July 10, 2010 Scratch that. My bad. The very NEXT post I looked up answered my question.
shnar 52 Posted July 11, 2010 TileSystem is *very* handy, if anything because of how easy it is to expand -shnar
EeT-MeeL 0 Posted July 26, 2010 In the campaign "Reclaim the Base" (boardgamegeek.com/filepage/24612/reclaiming-the-base-complete-1-1-pdf) the area descriptions are done in a very professional manner. Does any one know how to do that? Is there a program or a template that I can use?A friend and I are currently building a campaign and would like it to look as proper as the one's provided with the game. You can use Mike Z's Doomedit to make the pages look like the scenarios from the official books. The site for the program is dead, but I have the program zipped and ready to e-mail.
