Hi,

Does the latter part of the response effect trigger (at the end of turn, you are eliminated from the game) even if Azatoth is removed from the game
before the end of the turn?

I'm pretty sure that if he leaves play before end of the turn then you are not eliminated from the game.

Considering the old CCg card (which wasn't changed, if I do remember well), the first part of the text is a response, the second one of passive effect ...

 

As passive effect disapears as soon as the card text is off-play, you don't loose the game !

 Prodigee: This is relevant to a different question.  Why do you say a passive effect disappears and doesn't run the duration of the phase?  I can't seem to find that in the rules or FAQ.

It's simple, asFAQ says :

"(v1.0) Duration of Effects
If a triggered ability has no specified duration, then the effects of that ability expire at the end of the current phase. “Put into play,” “Remove from play,” and “Take Control” effects are all an exceptions to this rule, and unless specified by a specific duration are considered to be permanent effects"

As permanent are not triggered ability, nor the triggered ability which are exception, they are not concern by any duration of effect. As soon as they leave the game, the passive effect is of !

 Yes, but my confusion comes from the other part of the FAQ where they say:

The main difference between a passive ability and a forced response is that the Forced Response can be cancelled.

It may be a good habit of typing out what the card says.  A lot of times it speeds up response time, because some people are reading forum and don't have access to their cards <cough>work<cough><cough>.

I'll keep this in mind.

Then again, this game really needs an online card database, similar to Magic's Gatherer or magiccards.info.
