NANTEX POINTS FIX

Recommended Posts

https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2020/10/29/unscheduled-maintenance/

"This points change is aimed to break up the current incarnation of the 6-Nantex list, but not to push the Nantex swarm archetype out of the game entirely. The Petranaki Arena Ace will move to 35 points, and the Stalgasin Hive Guard will move to 33 points. The aces are also being adjusted slightly, accordingly."

I am mad at Nantex because they nerfed it too much.

Kidding. Not mad. Don't care. But they maybe did.

I'm more in the not enough camp. Should've priced them out of 6x breakpoint entirely, Stalgasin up 1 more, and Petranaki should've followed. Get ready for a season with 6 Stalgasin lists and 5 Petranaki lists with either Pred+Crack or Gravitic.

They are now priced in line with RZ-2s, which are the most comparable ship. I don't think anyone thinks RZ-2s are undercosted.

[Edit: I definitely meant to write overcosted. new baby means no sleep means bad brain worky]

Well, this means they do at least look at tts data even if they can’t admit to doing so.

I think they look at a lot of things they never admit to, including these forums.

Personally, when I say stuff out here, I assume it's getting back to FFG.

Also, while the Nantex has 0 impact on my XWM, it's stuff like this that makes me pretty happy to see some level of "finger on the pulse," which I found sorely lacking in years past.

And they're all wrong.

The RZ-2 is, quite frankly, what a 2-dice ship needs to be in order to be relevant -- and even then, only just. All of the ships that look bad alongside the RZ-2 need to be adjusted to match it, not the reverse. Making the RZ-2 look "balanced" compared to stuff like RZ-1s and Z-95s just means we'll have yet another unplayable 2-attack ship.

You'd be surprised what data they use behind the scenes that's not generated by their own company teams. I certainly was.

Considering how much of 2.0 is straight copy pasta from old 1.0 discussions here, I'd wager we're a primary source of their vacation days since we did most of the mental heavy lifting 😂

I'm glad they took this opportunity. I'm glad Max came out to talk about it. It shows the design heads are very much taking responsibility for the health of the game on their end as they should. He continues to gain cool points on my scorecard. And I really enjoy seeing the changeable points system show how robust it can be at making corrections, even emergency ones like this. I have some critiques on what he said too, but I'll just take this as a win for the community and stay another bag of popcorn to have ready for the next dumb tractor thing that comes along and needs fixed. It'll probably just be the Nantex again anyway when it's in an squad pack lol

35 is a logical but a bit cautious choice

5x35 gives you 175 and removes the option of a 6th nantex or other good ship. Now you have to make actual choices, and that is good.

5x34 would be 170 and leave you with dbs404, which is still good. I would have preferred that tbh because complete lack of upgrades takes the list down a notch already.

33 was too low an option and 36 too high.

This is how you get power creep.

2.0 seems to be going that way in a hurry anyway, so maybe I just stop bothering with the nerf not buff line.

*Raises hand*

I'll add that my issue is primarily with some of the named pilots and/or any of them with Advanced Optics.

I am also a little concerned with the initiative 1's with Starbird Slash.  I could be wrong and it'll be crap but 1 point seems kinda crazy.

I dont think so. The 'bughouse swarm' did me proud well before ensnare was hit with the interdictor*, and that was 5 gravetic deflection hive guard. I can still field that, and promote the I3 guard to I4 aces who can hang onto sabre squadron pilots. Or I can take 6 basic chassis with no upgrades. Both seem like they should still be good, and unlike triple upsilon theyve just made the squad less good, not smashed it into the dirt with a lump hammer.

Those complaining about the RZ2 aren’t complaining about the base chassis (usually).

The problem is the combination of high initiative, great pilot abilities, and access to heroic and advanced optics.

Rz1 would be better with a high init pilot too. Maybe in the Phoenix squad pack it will get some needed love.

I am in line with most of you by thinking that this adjustment was exactly what was needed.

Once that said, I see that there's a threshold that FFG seems to be creating: the limit to the number of the same ships in a squad, as for the TIE Heavy. They didn't want to get 6 of those big monsters in a squad, so they put just out of reach (34 points). Of course, if you want to put 5 of them, you can with their title, but the frontier of 6 is the same pattern as the frontier of 3 with the VCX and the decimators (67 points) and the frontier of 4 with the resistance bomber (51 points).

I agree to those changes, and even if we can still put 6 Nantexes in a squad, you cannot equip them with crack shots. Good thng.

The I1:s will have to choose between Starbird Slash and Heroic, I belive Heroic is the better choice.

Also, moving early and dealing a strain is neglected if the opponent moves after you with a blue maneuver.
