Does it feel like X-Wing's become unimportant to FFG?

"They keep trying to dip their toes into that water"?
When? As stated above, the designer team didn't know what to do of HotAC when shown to them. As if it was something they had never even considered or wanted doing.
FFG has had 8 years to even experiment with solo or coop formats, or even just single missions, but unless I am mistaken, they released none.
Not even back then when they used to pack cinematic missions with large ships. All those missions were versus.

One thing is to prioritize "versus" over coop/solo, and another thing is to totally dismiss it solo/coop, that is what they have been doing for two editions, up until the very moment that a pandemia makes them regret their decision.

And of course versus is going to be the thing that makes money for them if it is the only thing they offer!
What an absurd vicious circle! Solo/coop doesn't give us money, so we don't develop any solo/coop. And since solo/coop doesn't exist, it doesn't give us any money.

I meant that they kept trying to dip their toes into the water of things that aren't just 1v1 death matches:

1. v1.0 Missions
1. v1.0 Mission Control
3. v1.0 Epic
4. v2.0 Epic
5. Now the Solo rules

The most work and resources were put into the two versions of Epic (with v2.0 Epic getting the most resources devoted out of all the above). But there is always a push for more ships to be released, because that's what gets the most money. Putting resources into supporting anything else means pulling resources away from releasing more ships. They attempted to buy themselves some time to do so by filling out 2.0 waves with re-releases. That gave them the ability to shift resources over to develop Epic Battles and the new Huge Ship rules. Then it turned out that the re-releases weren't selling very well, because most of their customer base already had the ships from v1.0 and conversion kits.

Then the pandemic hit, and upended every single priority they would have had.

I mean, if you want to know how many people FFG has working on X-Wing, it's pretty simple. Go to the 2.0 edition rulebook and look at the credits. There are three names listed for "Second Edition Game Design & Development". Frank Brooks, Max Brooke, and Alex Davy. That's it. Those are the people who have to figure out all the rules, all the ships, all the pilots, all the upgrades, all the points - everything. Oh, and Alex Davy is also a developer for both Armada and Legion, so he's not even full-time on X-Wing these days. So, less than 3 people to do everything.

What's more likely:
1. They hate the very idea of doing Solo rules, but they're reluctantly doing so now
2. They've never had enough people to devote to doing Solo rules before now, but with all production down to zero, and financial incentive to encourage people to continue doing something with the miniatures they sell, they were able to redirect some of the time of their not-quite 3 developers to work on solo rules.

I mean, I know which option Occam's Razor says is more likely, but, hey, I'm certainly not privy to FFG's internal discussions.

And in Armada news... there will soon be Armada news.

The X-Wing community is down-right spoiled compared to Armada players. FFG might as well have just stuck an image of a middle finger on the last presentation where they said that.

Pictured above is an Armada player waiting hopefully on the porch three hours after the time their deadbeat dad said they'd come by to pick them up and take them fishing "for real this time, sorry about all those other times I didn't come through and show up, but this time will be different."

Look, at this point it's the Armada players' faults.  I can recall more instances in the past three years of FFG failing to deliver Armada news than I can of them actually delivering.  The most recent example above, sure, but let's not forget the Worlds Hyperspace Report debacle that was all and only X-Wing 2.0 after being billed as Star Wars gaming news, or the Gencon In-Flight report where after a loooong wait FFG said only "Something big is coming!' (cue more than another year of waiting to get it), or when they teased Clone Wars after having already teased Clone Wars at an earlier event.

It's a real testament to the game of Armada, I suppose, that there is any community left.

Again.  Unprecedented and unpredictable global crisis.  The vast majority of FFG's plans for the year have likely gone out of the window, through no fault of their own.

Stop acting so bloody entitled.  News will arrive when it arrives.

How did it come to be that if there isn't a constant drip-feed of content for a game, that it gets considered dead and should just be abandoned?

Chess players have been waiting 500 years for a new piece to come out.  I've no idea how their community survives ...

Some people just have to have novelty, not just have a game.

Honestly? If the game never saw new pieces, I’d still be playing. I think it’s fun. I’d hope that ffg and/or a community would try and keep the point balance going and fine tuning, but even if not I’d find a way to stick with it.

Now, that said.... I absolutely enjoy adding new elements to the game so I’m actively buying new pieces when available.

I never actually said "dead" or that it should be abandoned.  I've been thinking about it since the announcement for Wave VII - the smallest wave yet.  I'm sure there were similar waves in 1.0, where only two or three ships came out.  I guess I was riding a hype-wave since the Clone Wars factions entered the game.

Also, as several others have pointed out, X-Wing players have been a bit spoiled.

Not saying you said that, it's just a bit of a trend I've seen recently.  Mostly with videogames, but it comes up in the tabletop scene too.

They had said the plan was to have smaller waves more frequently. Then covid happened before they could.

Try being part of the RPG community. We have no idea what's going on over there.

RPGs have been really impacted by Asmodee restructuring.  I believe they're the ones that had to close up shop back in January.
