The Mandolorian Operative Expansion

Has there been any talk of a Mandolorian expansion with The Child as a companion?

Some comment about doing stuff with the Mandalorian show from a convention if I recall correctly, but no statement as to what form that would take. A unit expansion would be a bit difficult for many of the characters, since they wouldn't necessarily fit into any of the existing factions.

The characters that were part of the Empire and Rebellion could easily see releases, but the Mandalorian himself would be a bit harder to fit into a specific faction.

I've seen a half-dozen homebrew expansions, but there hasn't been anything from FFG except a single powerpoint slide at a convention where they said Legion will be incorporating something(s) from the show eventually.

Has FFG spoken about making a Scum faction for Legion?

Nothing more than strong hints from some convention, not even as strong as the comments about Clone Wars for Armada.

Nothing concrete or that would be anytime soon though for Legion. I really doubt any new factions would be released before the Clone Wars factions at least catch up to GCW.

My guess would be Scum being the last faction they do. GAR and CIS have followed very closely to the release of Rebels and Empire. FO and Resistance would allow them to keep the same patter and units.

Of course Scum has a lot of cool options and I could seem them trying to squeeze it in before the other two.

I actually see that as a reason to release a scum faction before the sequel trillogy.  It would be far easier to get one faction "caught up" rather than two.

I could also see them being added before FO and Resistance (the latter of which might require a fair number of FFG original units). Especially since the bounty hunters could easily be reused, and would be the most natural fit for stuff from the Mandalorian, which is super popular. Getting that stuff sooner rather than later is better, especially given the number of knockoffs that have been produced already.

Hard to say since they now are doing waves of 8 units. So far Clone Wars gets 6 units and GCW gets 2. Can easily see them repeat the patter with FO/Resistance getting 6 and Clone Wars getting 2. Of course Scum offers a lot more flexibility since it would be a real crazy faction with zombies, witches, and giant monsters. Just not sure if that crazyness and going solo would work better next or after another generic duel faction ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Funny enough FO and Resistance can fill out a lot of their faction from the movies, but they suffer the same issue as Rebels and Empire. FO does not really have any operatives (at least from the movies) and Resistance does not really have special forces that I can think of. And it is crazy how many models could in theory be reused (not really sure if these would count or not??): Luke, Han, Liea, Papa Palp, AT-ST,  R2, and 3PO.

I agree with how popular the Mandalorian and Clone Wars is right now and the pressure to rush out a Scum faction first. Hando, Maul, and the many many Mandalorian versions seem like an easy way to rake in the money.

That's true to an extent, I don't see them dropping the rebels and imperials completely out thought.  But my main point is you get caught up quicker because all of the releases go toward one faction instead of split across two.  So in your example above FO and the Resistance would get 3 each where as a scum would get 6, or it could be split Reb/Imp 2 GAR/CIS 2 Scum 4.  That would still get Scum caught up faster as scum would be getting more per wave than either of the other two factions.  That doesn't mean that FFG would do it that way, and I have been wrong before about Legion so who knows really.

FO I'll accept, but all I recall for Resistance was the equivalent of "Rebel Troopers" for corps units.

Given how slow Disney was to get the Child merchandise out, who knows how long it will be before we see minis from Mandalorian. They could already do version of some of the Imperial Remnant characters as they were during the GCW, and the Rebel Drop troopers.

Nothing of substance. People read into what ffg says to fit their wants all the time.

I am sure that they will get to it eventually in some capacity, as long as they think they will sell minis. When is unknown.

FO and Resistance don’t have a lot of options for ground, even less than they do in space (Xwing). I would bet scum comes before they do unless Disney pushes hard to sell their trilogy and/or pumps out a bunch of new content to work from. Honestly? I think it’s more likely High Republic + whatever forces oppose them are more likely as new legion factions than FO or Resistance because it’s the start of a massive cross platform project from Disney while the sequel trilogy is pretty much over now. I don’t hear much about new content coming in that era.

And sometimes what FFG 'says' changes later for various reasons. Until stuff is actually announced, it is just speculation based on things said with winks on streams.

I've seen more than a few things that deal with the post GCW/pre-sequel trilogy era, but I agree that the next big push is the "High Republic" era. I wonder if they will be using the Sith Empire as the "big bad" for that setting... Time will tell, and I'm doing my best to avoid projecting "Old Republic" desires onto this new setting.

Sequel trilogy is not going to sell, so I would be very surprised if they released it. There is a pretty big difference between Clones and Stormtroopers. There’s not much a difference between Stormtroopers and First Order equivalents, and even less between Rebels and Resistance.

For starters FFG did have stuff planned out for the last three years, before all this covid stuff, when they talked about it earlier this year, and we are now a good 3+ months behind schedule. Any Mandalorian/Scum stuff might as well be pushed down the line. Heck I could see them either making mention of a new faction to be released mid/late next year or just push that down the line further until next year's Gencon as an announcement. Though I guess there is the chance they just make Dyn Jarren a unit that could be taken by anyone, though I'd hope they wouldn't.

Very much so, especially seeing as from what has been announced so far it looks like there isn't any push to flesh out the ST, nor what could be added to them unit wise to make them stand out more. Rather it seems like LFL will be focusing on the new High Republic era fairly actively and everything else announced, planned, and rumored seem to focus around the OT mainly, before or afterwards, or the PT. The OT will be getting Fallen Order 2, the Cassian show, Obi-Wan, and the Mandalorian to pull stuff from, and if the rumor about a Rebels sequel is true then that gives them even more stuff to pull from that period shortly after Endor. And the PT era is getting a comic series last I checked and rumors of a Clone Wars spinoff show, not surprising considering how well the last season did on Disney+.

There is no Sith Empire in that time period. High Republic is only 500 years before the battle of Yavin. As far as we can tell the "big bad" are the Nihil, who seem to be space vikings.

Seeing as the old canon is gone and Disney has yet to write the new canon for that period, we don't know what does and doesn't exist outside of press releases.

It slipped my mind that since Yoda was part of the new setting it was only around 500 prior to GCW era, however the last of the "Sith Empires" only dissolved 500 years before that according to Legends.

Looking up stuff on Wookiepedia, I discovered that the canon time frame for High Republic is 232 BBY, putting the dissolution of the last Sith Empire in old canon at 768 years earlier.

Eh, maybe they will keep working their way backwards :-P.

Cara Dune for Rebels as an operative alongside Rebel droptroopers special forces would be siiick.

Also Moff Gideon as an Imperial commander with an equippable Darksaber!!

There's lots of material for them to use without adding a scum faction.

I dont know if i would say there is lots.  Rebels would have possibly 3 releases and empire would have 2.

Rebels: Cara Dune, Security droids, Jump troopers

Empire: Moff Gideon, Transport(from rebels as well)

Could they not align The Mandalorian the same as the Clan Wren Unit Expansion?

The key difference is that, by the time we meet Mando, the Rebellion hasn't been "a thing" for at least 5 years.  The only tie he has to the Rebellion is fighting alongside someone who used to be part of the Rebellion.  Clan Wren on the other hand actively fought against the Imperial presence on Mandalore alongside actual members of the Rebellion.

The 2nd season is coming out later this year so it will only grow.
