yeah, there's no reason to get rid of them, just print new cards, new command cards, new upgrade abilities or weapons, etc. Crossover, just means more models sold.

Generic Jedi would be interesting. I wonder if they'll do that as a SF Melee unit or if they'll include different named characters like Kit Fisto or Plo Koon like they are doing with Fives and Echo.

I think generic Jedi are unlikely (not that FFG cares what I think). Clones are much more generic and better suited to the 50 point generic Commander identity, and I can't imagine a "generic Jedi" being significantly cheaper than Obi-wan or Luke.

The challenge with trying to put many named Jedi into a single kit is that many require more than just a head swap, which is all they are really doing for the named characters in the Inferno, ARC, and Clan Wren boxes.

For now at least, third party sculpts to be used as alternates for Anakin, Obi-wan, or any future Jedi characters are probably the best way of including other Jedi FFG doesn't put in the game. Heck, they still haven't added Lando. GAR may not even get a "special forces melee" squad. But, nothing is written in stone, and FFG/Disney is free to release what they want.

I figure for the commander we get a Clone Commander, it would be neat if the pack included some of the features the devs have talked about customizing characters in the pack. To make it so you could really make the Clone Commander stand out/unique. As for Jedi Padawan/Knight they could use them to make a melee based unit to come out opposite of the Magna Guards, with the idea being to make a single model, possibly 2 model, unit to make them stand out more. That said I expect they'd be watered down a bit.

The Jedi's role as commanders and operatives make having them as special forces feel a bit forced to me, as if FFG is just checking something off rather than making units that make sense. Also, that seems like a combination pack that I would have half expected for Ashoka and Anakin. Barriss and Luminara could almost fit for what you described, but I almost feel like the K2-S0 and Cassian design fits Padawans and Masters a bit better than a single unit.

This still doesn't solve the main challenge of representing so many different Jedi in a single box which many people want.

I could see a generic Clone Commander being similar to Iden in number of weapons options, and potentially having specific upgrades to change the type of token they generate with an action, time will tell.

I mean I guess they could instead go with Temple Guard or the like, the Republic just lacks a real solid melee attack unit outside of Jedi and the Clone Assassins that were featured back in the ROTS video game. The Republic definitely will have plenty of commanders and operatives with all the Jedi and Clone characters so it will be interesting to see how they try to deal with that.

I figure that the Clone commander won't have mechanical differences in how you build them but just a cosmetic you have a few options on how to built them. Maybe legs with kamas, or a chest with a pauldron, etc, etc.

I'm a fan of Darth Maul in Legion, even though his affiliation with the CIS is questionable. But now that Maul has been leaked, I'm hoping that Asaaj Ventress will be the next Commander and/or Operative for the Separatists.

I don't understand why some Separatist players want Nute Gunray as a CIS Commander. He was an incompetent coward who was bossed around and puppeteered by Darth Sidious the entire time. Considering that Rune Haako was used for the CIS hostage miniature in the Vital Assets expansion, I imagine that if Nute Gunray was a CIS Commander, he should be used as the miniature for the 50-point generic Separatist commander.

However, I'd prefer if a Super Tactical Droid, like Kalani, was the generic CIS commander instead, because STDs were actual army commanders and could be formidable opponents.

Not every army NEEDS every unit type to be filled though. Many Rebel lists don't include Wookies, and IRG are often forgone for Deathtroopers. With ample access to Jedi, I think the Republic can rely on them to fill the "melee attack unit" role. But we'll see what Special Forces units are announced as part of the same "wave" as Anakin and Darth Maul.

Nothing stops FFG from giving a Generic Clone Commander an armament slot though, which would allow for accurately fielding commanders who carried pistol(s), the DC-15A, or the DC-15. I doubt we will see a ton of "non-functional" options on the sprues though. Outside of helmet/unhelmeted options, we haven't seen a lot of that from FFG yet, and they could easily have fit some belt grenades, backpacks, ammo pouches, or something else onto some of the sprues

I mean this is why I want him. lol  I like the idea of CIS being tactically and functionally inferior but having hordes of janky barely useful skeletons to hold objectives.

Like, yeah, B1s suck, but we sure have a lot of them! lol

But can I run the idiot seeker droid and the dork probe droid in the same army?

IG-88 was right. With names like these, there should be a droid uprising!

No more disgusting meat-sacks! Tactical droids or go home.
I need to cut one in half for my tank!

But that only happened in the media because it was seen as the bad guys and plot convenience.

I rather have the competent CIS that always criminally remained on the background.

Not gonna lie, Maul is just that awesome I don't mind about the balance of armies or how he fits into CIS. Hoping for a Nute Nute too soon though. Pathetic and amazing in one neat roll

I would be in favor of this for sure - customizable generic commander similar to Iden mini would be wonderful. P1/P2 helmet, then arms for the load out. Yes please.

I mean, it would be funny to have some of his meme level quotes as command cards, but I’m not convinced he’d sell well up front. I think the tactical droid may sell better as the generic commander in a specialist pack. Maybe a named one to have unique command cards.

The tac droids also have some good sayings. “By your command” has to be one of them, even if it was only used in one episode (because of the nod to another franchise involving artificial warriors). Something about calculations, maybe even allowing the droid coordinate for one turn to extend 1-2 instead of 1.

Its been a while since I went through the series though so I may be missing some good lines for the droid commander

Ultimately I am glad that we are getting Darth Maul.  I just would have vastly preferred to get him either much later for CIS, or even more preferably as the commander in a scum/Crimson Dawn starter set.  There are just so many things that CIS needs to get some real variety in list building, and a third expensive lightsaber unit is absolutely not one of those things.  Especially since he's going to be an Operative, how is he supposed to be fielded in any way other than in a slightly different Double the Fall list?  And as much as I like Ventress, do we really need a fourth lightsaber unit?

Here is what I would have rather gotten/think we should get next:

1. Admiral Trench - He may be an Admiral, but we see him commanding ground forces at least once, and we see him fight Anakin (briefly...).  He would be an awesome model (with cyborg and non-cyborg options), has great lines for command cards, and has cool weapon options.  Plus, unlike most CIS commanders shown in Clone Wars, he is actually competent. Easy first choice.

2. Super Tactical Droid Kalani/Kraken/Aut-O - There are several good named options for the Super Tactical Droid, so I don't think it should be the generic option.  Instead that should be...

3. Generic T-Series Tactical Droid - They are seen commanding Separatist forces more than probably anyone or anything else in Clone Wars, and almost exclusively as nameless mooks.  They were built specifically for command, but they're not particularly good at it.  Perfect choice for a generic commander.

4. Nute Gunray - Needs no explanation.

I love lightsabers, it is one of the biggest reasons why I enjoy Star Wars (and also why I enjoy Gundam shows. Robots with lightsabers? Yes please!!!), so the more lightsaber characters the better for me. However I do agree that we need that generic commander in order to add some versatility to the lightsaber character builds.

FFG has broken me with expensive commanders, units, and operatives I will take any cheap commander I can get that as this point!! I love CIS, but I still want to run it as a horde faction dang it!!!

Personal preference I would have liked them keeping Maul out of CIS, but if they keep him as an operative I really like that choice (keeps his commander version for Scum). Only real fear is that this opens up Pandora's Box with the idea that little Ani, Qui-Gon, **** even Darth Plagueis (okay this one would be fun) may get in sooner if FFG decides they would sell better then Kit Fisto or Plo Koon. Makes me wonder if FFG thought Cad Bane was more popular then Jango (Cad was way cooler) or that he would see better ???

.......................................................................................... It should have been Ventress before Maul!!

The good part about Legion following a repeat patter is that we can somewhat guess what will be coming out for CIS. The faction still needs:

  • vehicle support: Trench (such a cool mini that would be) or Tambor seem like the best option
  • infantry support: Nute or super tactical droid
  • a generic commander: no doubt Tactical droid
  • duel commander/operative: I would bet my money on Ventress since she appears a lot in the Clone Wars, leads troops into battle and works as operative several times, she almost dies because they notice how strong she becomes, and goes thought a costume change as the series goes on. Not really sure who else could be a better option?

I feel that we've been over this as a forum community before when the first rumors snuck out.  I would also love to see the mini-spider droids and some other accessory units like the insect allies or even the Quarren or other planets that were allies with the Trade Federation.

Oh ya one theory I have which may explain the lack of a cheap commander is that FFG may throw multiple commanders made into one expansion. They have many Super Tactical Droids that appear in the show with the same design, but different colors. FFG could make several commanders that could have different prices and abilities but the same command cards and using just one model. Would be the best for everyone. FFG could sell multiple of the same model (just so players could have different paint schems) while players could get several support/cheap commanders for CIS finally!!

May be an issue balance wise, but that is why they are waiting so long so that other factions have more option.

This is probably the reason. They know how to price a melee oriented force user without speaking lines, they don't know how or haven't figured out how to balance a cheap, progamable commander or more likely, how to release one and make money off of it.  They may have had Maul already figured out and mostly produced and he was more ready for production than the Tactical droid or Nemoidian we all want before Covid happened. So they pushed Maul forward and are still working on smaller-point commanders.

I wonder what the command cards will be.  "bears teeth",  "Angry grin", "paces menacingly"?

Probably a bunch of Clone Wars quotes because he has a lot more lines in the series.

”at last we will have our revenge” could be a good TPM quote for a command card.
