For Fun's Sake (FFS) - Off Meta Fun

Recommended Posts

Tired of winning trying to win all the time with boring dumb Meta lists?  Let's talk instead about what you put down on the table to have a good time!  Maybe it's not even something you put down on the table, but are always happy to see across from you because you know it means a fun game.  Maybe it's a game mode that you like to play more than the standard 400/134 tournament games.

I'll start with my personal favorite objective - Blockade Run.  I LOVE Blockade Run, because of how much it dramatically changes the game, between the rotation of the deployment areas, to the actual objective gameplay.  As 1st Player, I've taken that objective in high level tournaments purely because "we're going to have the most fun out of any table here", and when it first came out it it was the very first objective included into my lists.  It's just a good time.

I'm not sure you could say there's really a META for Rebellion in the Rim per se, but I've been having the most fun running a Medium + Small as my starter fleet, where most people seem to be going LARGE TANK, but with that being said it's only really fun for the first few games, and then it kinda loses the luster as every game turns into this chess match where you're trying to keep your ships alive while plotting exactly how you're going to score enough points to get the win.

I've actually been playing a Cracken list just for the fun of it. The AFM2's are super fun with Salvo (replacing evade) backed by IF.

• Expert Shield Tech (5)
• Local Fire Control (4)
• Electronic Countermeasures (7)
• Linked Turbolaser Towers (7)
• Paragon (5)
= 109 Points

Assault Frigate Mk2 B (72)
• Expert Shield Tech (5)
• Local Fire Control (4)
• Electronic Countermeasures (7)
• Linked Turbolaser Towers (7)
= 95 Points

Pelta Assault Ship (56)
• General Cracken (26)
• Ahsoka Tano (2)
• Engine Techs (8)
• Intensify Firepower! (6)
= 98 Points

GR-75 Medium Transports (18)

A quality list that'll have you're opponent saying "FFS" (For Fun's Sake)!

Opening Salvo.  Nothing says fun like throwing tons of dice (in your first attacks) and this objective makes that happen.  Not as popular as Most Wanted due to its downside, understandably, but it is fun nonetheless.  Good memories at a Store Championship of my Hammerhead Gunline (Sato, ACMs, and DCaps) taking out Demolisher at range before it even had a chance to use any black dice against me.

Get points from the station with the Gozantis, use grav shift and mines to protect the station, Tagge to protect the Gozantis, and go hunting with the rest of the ships. (I've never played Surprise Attack but I assume it would be hilarious)

Love Twin LMC80s, trying to make them work

Triple ISDs

Agree with OP, hope we can get more objectives that change up the board state more dynamically like Blockade Run does

@Bertie Wooster, can we just agree that any list where you run Tagge is for Fun (or that you've had just a few too many pints)?

It's primarily for the fun of your opponent forgetting that you have Tagge, then going "Gah! Tagge!" when you bring back your scatter tokens / Iden evade / ISD brace.

That's why I love using Bossk.  No one remembers his ability until after they've countered or conducted a flak attack against him.

Really? Huh, my usual experience is ignoring Bossk unless I can put him in the GROUND and FAST.

That’s probably the right thing to do.  The players in my area usually ask me what his special ability is after they’ve put a damage on him.  I usually attack something with counter first so they just instinctively roll their dice.

Three VSDs with Salvo and Romodi has been a lot of fun. If you fly right, your opponent is just constantly getting dice thrown at it. Granted, I've only tried this in solo AI games; I'd like to try it against an actual human. 😉

The downside of "shoot first, ask questions later."

Any list where you use 4 victories.

It's not a great list, but it's a list that not's on meta..... It's fun to run. Drop a bunch of obstacles and fun stuff, huck tons of dice, and blow stuff up!

My list is a workable 400 point Sato list that can actually win a game without depending on either insane amounts of luck or a dumb opponent. I want this fleet to work so bad! Fighters and hammerheads. And hey, a rebel quasar, if we can get it?

Name: Untitled Fleet
Faction: Rebel
Commander: Commander Sato

Assault: Surprise Attack
Defense: Fighter Ambush
Navigation: Solar Corona

Hammerhead Scout Corvette (41)
• Commander Sato (32)
• Slaved Turrets (6)
• Task Force Organa (1)
= 80 Points

Hammerhead Torpedo Corvette (36)
• Disposable Capacitors (3)
• Assault Concussion Missiles (7)

My triple VSD list is very similar to this, except it swaps Quad Battery Turrets for Quad Turbolaser Cannons, and Skilled First Officer with Intel Officer. I find the combo to be great at stripping away defense tokens. Makes for a fun fleet.

I'm not gonna say it's anything special, but I've flown this twice and really enjoy the heck out of it. I can't remember the last time I saw a swarm of generic TIEs on the table, and I know SSDs aren't popular outside of the Ravager build. Finally, I enjoy the *idea* of Palpatine, even if he's really expensive and difficult to maximize.

Papa Palpatine (94/400/400)
===========================

Command Prototype (220 + 86: 306)
· Emperor Palpatine (35)
· Weapons Liaison (3)
· Damage Control Officer (5)
· Flight Commander (3)
· Gunnery Team (7)
· Take Evasive Action! (6)
· Intensify Firepower! (6)
· Rapid Launch Bays (6)
· Leading Shots (4)
· Quad Battery Turrets (5)
· Executor (2)

Howlrunner (16)
Gamma Squadron (10)
4 x Tie Bomber Squadron (4 x 9)
4 x Tie Fighter Squadron (4 x 😎

Ion Storm
Capture the VIP

Love the automatic emoji. At first I thought you were just saying it’s really cool to run 4 generic tie fighters.
