Question on Agnes & Meat Cleaver

Recommended Posts

Quick question for people on what should happen in the following scenario:

Agnes is engaged with a cultist with 1 health. Agnes has meat cleaver.

Agnes activates the ability on meat cleaver, takes one horror as part of the cost to activate the Fight action on that card with the cultist as the target.

Agnes activates her free reaction trigger to deal one damage to the cultist, killing him.

Does the Fight action resolve now that it has no target? Does a skill test ensue? Wondering if I have to draw a chaos token, etc.

There's an old dev response applicable here (about a similar situation but with the horror backlash from Shrivelling). You can find the thread here, but to quote the relevant response:

the skill test should immediately end without resolution. If you’re attacking an enemy and the enemy leaves play before the skill test is completed, the process is aborted; return any revealed chaos tokens to the bag and the skill test ends without resolution (it is neither successful nor unsuccessful).

So if you use Meat Cleaver to place horror on Agnes and kill the enemy you were in the process of attacking, you stop resolving the skill test.

Thanks @Allonym, I appreciate it.

You're most welcome. Glad I could help!

You really are amazing. We need to create an Allonym investigator, who’s signature card is,  “Ask me anything.”
