New Tournament Regs

Trooper Silhouette is going to add a lot of time if folks get overly technical on measuring. I am looking forward to an easier to use template made by a third party though.

The tournament format rules don’t matter to me either way because I’ll only ever play casually.

Yep, I have been victim of the oh his rifle muzzle is showing, so I can blast him out of this galaxy nonsense.  No more do you need to stand back and ask does that make sense.  Just use the rectangle you cut from your frosty flakes box edge and compare.

Three questions:

Does this make the mini taller? I haven’t checked it yet, but in their example photo the cutout is taller than the Luke mini.

Also isn’t placing a flat rectangle against a round base is going to have it’s own margin for error?

Lastly aren’t the corners kind of excessive, especially if the cutout is taller, shouldn’t they have rounded it a bit?

The template seems a bit wonky, but I think you can make the decision without it most times. Good to be able to use in tournaments.

I also Love that they stole my victory token % to replace SoS. Much better that random SoS.

Omg I thought the template was a way to see what part of minis providing LOS not that the template itself gave sight. Heh yeah now it's gonna be very hard to hide behind anything but large walls.  Also yes r2 is now the size of Chewie 😂

Also I now have to make new ifantry covering walls as the template will be taller 😋

Yeah that’s kinda screwy; but I like the idea of a unit occupying a certain area rather than the mini being the physical representation. Rarely in battle are individuals frozen in place. I think this both accomplishes that while keeping guns and lightsabers from being targets.

overall should speed up gameplay as there will be less argument over whether or not the brim of a hat or tip of a sword can be seen and quicker resolution to most scenarios.

I'm really personally concerned about the margin of error rules, it just seems way to squishy to me.

I've also won (and lost) KP games by a mater of milimeters.  What do you do then?  When is it MoE and when is it just that you didn't make base contact when you needed to make base contact?

As to the pictures of terrain, I do appreciate seeing it laid out, however I wish they would have also shown what it looks like when all packed together to get to the 25% coverage.  is it a tight 25% or a loose 25%?

I do appreciate the LOS template though.  There's still going to be dispute over when someone can see a thing or not but I appreciate that it;s standard.  Cant waut to see how it gets put into TTS.

While waiting for the third party templates, you can always print the template out and glue them to a cereal box (or similar cardboard) for some added rigidity. If you are really adventurous, you could use plasticard, either store bought or from an expired membership card of some kind.

I believe their intent was to protect the innocent alterations to the board state (e.g. bumping terrain, knocking over a trooper mini, etc). The folks who will use this to cheat to win would have cheated somehow anyway. Some folks just didn't get enough hugs growing up...

I'm fine with the line of sight template ... even if the size (42mm x 27mm) seems oddly arbitrary (why not 40 x 25)?

Glad to see strength of schedule go, but their MoV scheme rewards "baby seal clubbing" ... getting randomly paired against a significantly weaker opponent and trouncing them is better than a hard-fought game between players of near equal skill. Since I don't have a better idea, though -- it's still an improvement, and at least we aren't totaling victory points like they do in Armada.

That’s how it works in other ffg games too. You score better by beating your opponent by a bigger margin. A close game doesn’t help your ranking much in xwing unless it’s a win and you just needed the W. MoV is based on the difference of what was destroyed so a lopsided game scores better than a close one.

The new tournament tie breaking rules give a big insensitive for taking bounty hunters or models with secret mission. I think the ability to score additional VP's outside of the mission just got more important for tournament play.

I prefer to use comic book backing boards. That's what I used to make the tokens for that x-wing fan made campaign.

That'll go away, and instead be replaced with "it doesn't matter that you hid your model completely out of line of sight of mine, this cardboard corner sticks barely out from this sloped wall and can see the corner of the cardboard of the model you hid behind that rock!"

To play this game effectively we really shouldn't be using models at all anymore. All that will do is trick you into thinking you do have LoS on something you don't, or that you're hidden when you're not.

The templates are a bad solution in Infinity, and they're a bad solution here.

"When drawing line of sight, ignore 'extraneous elements' such as weapons, antennas, basing, etc." There. Solved. And you didn't have to turn it into a cylinder combat game featuring optional but inconvenient models.

****, if they played with these rules when the special edition movies came out, Greedo would've killed Han in the cantina!
