Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel I would say is relatively unknown. If it wasn't for the movie and the guest spot I'd say she is a complete unknown.

She seems better known as Ms. Marvel or "the girl Rogue stole her powers from.

Marvel keeps relaunching her comic in an attempt to make her popular but they keep failing.

Interesting bit of comic trivia...

Carol Danvers used the Ms. Marvel name during two periods of time, from 1977-1982 (at which point she became Binary) and from 2006-2012, a total of roughly 11 years.

In 2012, she took on the persona of Captain Marvel, a name she's now used for 8 years.

So, does that mean 3 years from now, comic 'fans' who don't even really read comics will finally shut the **** up about the name change?!?

Also, I'm going to guess people weren't complaining about **** Grayson's name 8 years after he changed from Robin to Nightwing, even though he was obviously much better known as Robin...

Yeah, I guess if you ignore her billion dollar generating solo film and her role in the highest grossing film of all time you could probably construct an argument that she isn’t very well known... great point.

Being wedged between Infinity War & Endgame with the lie that she was super important to Endgame, she wasn’t, and proven bought yet empty theater seats should tell you it was a manufactured push. Since her usage of the Captain Marvel name her comics had been cancelled and rebooted 7 time within 2 years because the had terrible sales and no one likes this version of Danvers. But hey only look at one set of data to proof your point because apparently the comics don’t matter.

So she’ll be widely recognisable to anyone who saw a Marvel movie in 2019, but ignoring them, who else would recognise her?

Well... maybe... owners of this game? Yes, they’d probably recognise one of the 5 characters in the core set as well...

In the grand scheme of things, comics don't matter anymore... especially superhero comics.  They've become testing grounds for new ideas and characters and that's really about it.

Cool. Wasn’t able to preorder him (and the LGS I was preordering other stuff through kept getting screwed out of stuff anyways 😕) but I should have the cash to nab him if that holds out 😄

In a wild turn of events, I got an email from that LGS saying they got my copy of Thor and they’ll hold it for pickup?! 😂 I don’t recall asking them to put me down for a preorder for anything past Wrecking Crew, but I did place a sort of bulk preorder at one point so I might have just misunderstood how many expansions that covered? 😜

Not sure if I would call her widely recognizable for being a secondary character in the movie. Especially with people that don't follow comics. I doubt the average person would remember who Maria Hill is if you mentioned her name. The Marvel movies had tons of minor and major characters in the movies.

People seem to think I am saying nobody has a clue who she is. What I am saying is she is a lesser known hero when compared to Spider-Man, Wolverine, Hulk, or Captain America. Doesn't help that other characters had the same/similar name in comics.

As for her being in the game, I am not surprised. Same could be said about Kamala Khan. As another poster mentioned, Captain Marvel has had a lot of new self titled series getting cancelled due to poor sales. I can't remember another character in Marvel history that received such special treatment. Normally they won't risk giving a single character a new self titled series if they just cancelled it due to poor sales. She has had several new series in just a couple of years that have been cancelled due to poor sales.

Captain Marvel is one of the 4 characters Marvel has been pushing hard in recent years. The only thing that surprises me is that they haven't announced packs for Spider-Gwen or Miles yet. I'm not saying any of these characters are bad.  Just that these 4 characters have been getting a push from Marvel for the last few years.

Received my copy of Thor today (amazed that Australia got it the same day as USA). Solo he is not an easy hero to win with. His attack coupled with a hammer throw can be potent but his lack of thwart and his expensive allies make it hard to control the villain if he schemes. Even on Standard Rhino held out through tough and tough minions to hold off Thor's big attacks and complete his scheme. I did better with Klaw Thor's s lack of Thwart, having only 4 cards as Thor and 5 as his Alter Ego make him quite difficult to play solo like playing Protection on Spiderman Solo. He does looks fine as part of a team though.

As for Captain Marvel I too like the new protection card art is based on an event about 12 months ago but is new art. While I will always be an Iron Man fan Carol Danvers is my second choice and she is great with any aspect, solo or as part as a team, which you can't say for all the heroes.

That's a pretty big claim to just throw around...

It's a really bizarre conspiracy theory that's been pushed by people who have great difficulty accepting that women and minority characters can be popular- they've had a rough time of it lately, so I'm never sure if it's something that gets started as a misguided effort to reduce the numbers of women and minority characters in upcoming fiction or if it's simply something they do to comfort themselves because they find it distressing to live in a world that isn't entirely dominated by white guys.

I've played 2 games with Thor so far. Both with the pre con deck solo. Both vs Standard Klaw with Masters of Evil. The pre con is fine, but x3 Get Over Here, in solo is 3 dead cards really.

I chose to go up against that set up because I wanted to see plenty of minions. But I think it's easy to get into the trap of wanting and tackling minions all the time when playing as Thor. That's fine in multiplayer, but in solo I found myself either falling into the trap of being distracted by them or having to prioritise dealing with them. That might have been just because Masters of Evil has some of the biggest/toughest minions though.

Thor was real fun - he's a proper brawler. Between Jarnbjorn, his various attacks, Mean Swing and Battle Fury, you can have some pretty awesome turns. Defender of the Nine Realms can turn it up to 11. Especially against Klaw, where you also get to remove a side scheme like Defense Network or Immortal Klaw.

His hand size is a drawback, but I had some turns where I was on 9 or 11 cards, so it can be overcome.

I lost both of those games though unfortunately, but I think that's because I expended too much damage on the minions. In the 2nd game I had lethal damage ready to go but lost to Advance, which can't be helped.

Wow. I'm not even sure where to start with that. It's utter dreck.

BTW, I'm female. I don't like being pandered to. I HATE the whole "must have equal numbers of female characters" BS. I want characters that make sense and naturally fit the theme. I don't want or need a bunch of shoe-horned female characters to feel good about myself or my place in the world as a woman. I am not oppressed when people express their opinions about disliking certain characters. I find Brie Larson to be absolutely insufferable and her feminist antics completely turned me off to even seeing the movie. Did I mention I'm female?

That's all I'm going to say on the matter, since it has zero to do with this actual thread. But this sort of thinking needs pushback. It does nothing to promote women or minorities in gaming and unfairly paints anybody who is male and white as being a horrible person for just being male and white.

No whats bizarre is the amount of people, like yourself, who seems to ignore anything before a certain point just to claim your narrative is correct. Its sickening that people claim that women & minorities weren’t popular before XXXX time when we have *decades* of media that prove that wrong.
Black Panther is the first black Marvel superhero movie you say? So 1998’s Blade never existed then? How convenient for your narrative.

Female lead franchises are popular? Aliens? Tomb Raider? Resident Evil? Those don’t count? How convenient for your narrative.

Asians can’t be popular in the U.S? Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, Jet Li? They don’t count? How convenient for your narrative.

Jarnbjorn/ mean swing - does Jarbjorns response still fire after playing Mean Swing, which exhausts Jarnbjorn? For a total of +5 attack!

Yes. Exhausting a card doesn't blank its text box or otherwise necessarily prevent you from triggering its response. Therefore, because Jarnbjorn's response does not require you to exhaust it as a cost, you can still use it. So you can play Mean Swing when you make a basic attack and get +3 ATK, then spend a physical resource to deal 2 damage using Jarnbjorn (which can be to a different enemy if you want).
