How do you play on running the Saber Tank?

For the Veteran Clone Pilot how does it work? Kind of new still to the game.

Can I exhaust it at any time and do token sharing or does it only trigger once during say it's activation or when a clone nearby attacks or defends and I can exhaust the card to use the Tank's tokens? When used does it only use it's ability for one instance or is it for the whole round?

You can exhaust the card "While you or a friendly clone trooper unit at range 1 and in line of sight attacks or defends,...".

After you exhaust the card at the trigger above "...you and that unit can spend each other's aim, dodge, and surge tokens".

The during the End Phase you get to ready this card.

Yeah, same as how Improvised Orders exhausts on a trigger. Limits the sharing to only one trigger, rather than an entire turn (or at least the rest of the turn after the Tank's activation depending on your initial interpretation).

If it had an action or free action symbol on the card then by default it would have to be that unit's activation to trigger it. There's nothing in the rules about it having to be during a unit's activation to exhaust a card.

In order to exceed 9, you would not be able to run Obi Wan and max on the BAAD Speeders, or you can run Obi Wan and your units are all bare bones with no upgrades. Both results end in lists that are underwhelming.

If you end up putting upgrades on your units you sit at around 8 activations (my point)

That's not what you said though. You're adding in these exceptions after the fact.

If I was playing Republic, I'd run R2D2 w/ C3PO behind the Saber. Not sure of the exact loadout of the Saber, but repair droid sure helps.

This is what I'm thinking. R2 significantly increases the survivablility of the Saber. Unsure if C3P0 is worth it or not.

What is your reason for taking 3PO? For giving tokens to clone troopers?

3PO just to help out the Clones even further. Seems pretty good to try and fit into Republic lists with R2. There could definitely be games where Repairing the Saber isn't ever necessary because the opponent is choosing not to shoot it and you can flexibly swap it's role to supporting the troopers token sharing power.

Then you'd probably want to run the Veteran Clone Pilot on the Saber to enable token sharing. It's only once per turn but auto-refreshes so there's that.
