Clone AT-RT leak

We all knew the Republic AT-RT was coming... I can't say I'm very excited about it because the Rebels already have it.

I suppose the real question is: Why were the Rebels given the AT-RT in Legion in the first place?

The Rebels never used the AT-RT in the Original Trilogy. Of course not, the AT-RT was created for Revenge of the Sith. I don't recall AT-RT being used by the Rebels in the SW Rebels series either. The Spectres rode random speeder bikes, stole various Imperial vehicles, and rode Blurrgs on Ryloth, but I cannot remember ever seeing an AT-RT in the Rebels show.

In hindsight, the Rebels should've been given Tauntauns or the T-47 Airspeeder in the Legion core set. Then the Rebels should've received a real tank, like the T3-B or T4-B, in Wave 2 to oppose the AT-ST.

Regardless, Tauntauns would've been more appropriate as the Rebel counterpart to the Empire's 74-Z speeder bike in the Legion core set. Both the Tauntaun Riders and 74-Z speeder bikes cost 90 points, have 2 minis per unit, and neither have Hardpoints or Armaments. Even their health and dice are comparable. Tauntauns and speeder bikes match up 1:1. It's bewildering that FFG didn't choose Tauntauns for the Legion core set.

Then the Rebels could've received Blurrg Riders as the counterpart to the Empire's Dewback Rider.

Yeah, I know I'm a real Monday Morning Quarterback.

Returning to the topic: I would've been infinitely more excited about the Republic AT-RT if the Rebels didn't have it already. But who knows? Maybe FFG has a surprise for us with the Republic AT-RT.

Since the AT-RT announcement will be a big ol' Nothing Burger, I'm really eager for FFG's presumptive announcement of the STAP for the Separatists instead. At least the STAP will be new and interesting. Since the STAP is kinda light and flimsy and piloted by a B1, presumably there will be at least 2 minis per unit. But they probably won't have Hardpoints or Armaments like the AT-RT or Dewback Rider, because I don't recall the STAP using any special weapons other than its fixed dual laser cannons in the Prequels and TCW series.

At the time I think that A) AT-RTs were used in one of the Star Wars mobile games, I want to say Commander, B) The PT era factions weren't planned to be added at that point since they mentioned originally thinking about doing ST stuff but ultimately went with the PT era instead, and C) They likely didn't want to introduce too many different types of units at the start of the game by giving the Rebels Creature Troopers since both factions got access to Repulsor Vehicles, Speeders and T-47, and Ground Vehicles, AT-ST and AT-RT.

We will just have to see how they handle the Republic AT-RT when they likely show it off in a month or two.

I have to be honest: The idea that FFG has ever taken inspiration for Legion from a Star Wars mobile game is repulsive.

Not to overstate it, but I believe that the game designers, developers, and publishers of "Free To Play" ad-ridden, micro-transaction-sucking, mobile games, like Star Wars Commander, are the lowest form of life on Earth. Seriously, I have more respect and admiration for the micro-organisms that fester in the GI tracts of chickens in the high-density poultry "farms" of China than the so-called human beings responsible for those mobile games.

Please, FFG, take your cues from Star Wars sources with some semblance of integrity.

I mean, where do you think the whole Rebels using the Z-6 came from? Lots of stuff from Legion is grabbed from the more recent video games due to the fact that LFL has to approve everything they do and at the time there wasn't exactly tons to give them. The OT factions were basically limited to the films and a few seasons of Rebels + the current games at the time. I suspect that to come up with heavy options  they might have asked LFL and LFL in turn gave them the info as well as decided to help push the game.

Regardless though it has been said plenty of times that the Rebels used pretty much anything they could get including Clone Wars surplus as seen in Rebels and Legends so it really isn't all that surprising that the Rebels would be using the AT-RT and Z-6.

Plus as someone who usually plays Imperial, I enjoyed the ATRT a great deal.

You're making the common and foolish mistake of assuming that FFG has as little imagination as you do and couldn't possible do anything but copy the Rebel AT-RT exactly.

"They won't bother making a Republic faction since Clones would be exactly the same as Stormtroopers since they both wear white armor."

Any Legion player could create custom cards and stats and even rules for Legion, and call it "imaginative". It doesn't matter if the AT-RT is exactly the same, slightly different, or (somehow) completely different than the Rebel AT-RT. It's still an AT-RT. I've seen it before. I've assembled and painted three of them. And I've played with the AT-RT for over a year. It's old news.

That's presumably why FFG chose to announce Padme, Cad Bane, ARC Troopers, and BX-series Commando Droids before the Republic AT-RT and, presumably, the Separatists STAP. Because those 4 are all original! Is it that hard to understand?

Besides, my main point was that there were better options for a Support unit for the Rebels than the AT-RT in the first place. I don't care what crappy mobile games do with Star Wars. And do you even know what other high-quality games that Disney Interactive, the developer of the Star Wars Commander mobile game, has made in the past? Don't bother, trust me.

FFG is responsible for designing the Nadiri Starhawk and Onager-class Star Destroyer. They should've done better than the Rebel AT-RT. There were better options.

And none of this will change my lack of enthusiasm for the Republic AT-RT. If FFG wants to pique my interest they need to announce the AT-TE. I'll drop $100 on that beast before you can spell it.

BTW: I hate the Sabre-class Fighter Tank. Hard pass. I'll buy the X-34 Landspeeder before I buy that Battlefront abortion. The only Republic Heavy vehicle I'll ever buy is the AT-TE, so get on it FFG!

Wasn't the Saber Tank first used in a Clone Wars video game that involved a deadly Force killing weapon or something?

Seeing as how the AT-TE is taller than the current largest vehicle is long, and about 250% the length, I wouldn't hold your breath. Even if they adjust the scale it would likely be unplayably large, seeing as terrain exists.

Hmmmmm... Clone Wars video game, you say.

You're not helping the Saber Tank's cause.

Let's be real: The repulsortank was just invented for the Galactic Republic because the video game couldn't pull off a walker-type ground vehicle, like the AT-TE. A vehicle that just hovered over the ground was much easier.

One of the reasons I hate the Saber-class repulsortank is it's totally inconsistent from the Galactic Republic's vehicle design continuity. It's explained in innumerable sources that walker-type vehicles were chosen for the GRA because repulsor-jamming technology existed, which could disable vehicles like the AAT or MTT -- although I cannot recall repulsor jammers ever being used or referenced in canon until, for better or worse, The Rise of Skywalker.

The Juggernaut or "Turbo Tank" only gets a free pass because it's inspired from EU sources that predate the Prequel Trilogy, before George Lucas conceptualized any of the vehicles for the Trade Federaton, Galactic Republic, or Separatists, and he decided that the bad guys would get hover vehicles and the good guys would get walkers. That's a pretty simple guide to follow, but the developers of The Clone Wars video game couldn't be bothered to follow it and created the abomination that is the Sabre repulsortank.

I don't care if Aayla Secura is a Pilot of the Sabre tank, I'm never going to like it!

Yes, the same game that introduced the AT-XT, which I high key hope is the next Republic Heavy. But the AT-XT didn't get as much attention outside of that game as the Sabre so I'm hopeful but doubtful.

I honestly couldn't care less. FFG can make the AT-TE as impractically big as they want to, I will buy it! I think a lot of Legion players will happily buy it too.

Think about it: How often do the AT-ST, T-47, or X-34 appear in competitive Legion lists? None of Heavies factor into the META because of terrain interference. The majority of Legion players prefer to play on battlefields littered with terrain pieces that provide cover for their troopers, rather than a barren field where vehicles can move freely.

That doesn't mean Legion players don't love their Heavies!

Just wait, chances are FFG will create an official new, larger battlefield, eventually. FFG admitted that the AAT and Sabre tank have the largest bases they've ever made for Legion, and they previously had to create a larger base for the Occupier tank. Legion is constantly evolving. Something is only considered "impossible" or "impractical" until FFG does it, like the Super Star Destroyer.

I am absolutely certain that the AT-TE will happen, even if FFG has to design a new size battlefield and new Battle Plan Cards to accommodate the AT-TE... and the Separatists' counterpart, which could be the MTT, which is even larger than the AT-TE. I'd buy it! Although I think the Hailfire Droid is more plausible. The Octuptarra Tri-droid would be crazy... crazy-awesome! Honestly, I would buy any Clone Wars vehicle from the Prequel Trilogy films or the Clone Wars CG-animated series. The Prequel films might not have been the greatest, but I have nothing but respect and admiration for the model designers who contributed vehicles and ship for those movies.

FFG should've hired some of those talented designers to create the Legion core set's Rebel Support unit, instead of the AT-RT.

Haha, I brought it back on-topic!

Late April 2020; no news of skywalker as GAR general.

I’m starting loose hope

I think its safe to assume that right now and maybe for another month things are gonna be quiet on the news front. Anakin will see a release, he is too big to not include but with everything delayed it probably won't be for a while. Just depends how much all this stopped production.

I would rather anyone over Anakin.  Even Yoda. I actually think Gungans would be more fun in terms of gameplay than another force user. But I'm an advocate for the scum faction. I've built my rebel faction as a Merc faxtion based on appearances. I'd aell my imperial army except that's the one my son plays.

Id rather see other jedi and clone commanders first.

I think they are pretty good at making force users distinct. Compare Obi-Wan to Dooku, for instance.

Yeah. I would rather have ki amundi, kit fisto, mace windu, Ahsoka or anyone besides Anakin. Clones need a medium point commander (rex is cheap, Obiwan is closer to expensive) cody could be 120ish pts.

I mean the whole rebels never used this and why did they design this is a bit weird.

Star wars is not primarily a miniatures game. It's a space fantasy adventure films series.

Granted it has evolved into games, comics and other stuff, but holding a movie made in the 80's as the gold standard of what kind of vehicles and weapons to use is just weird.

Just look at all the kind of tanks, variants, guns and planes used in ww2.

These big military factions that get's stuff from hundreds if not thousends of worlds will be able to get so many different kind of equipments.

Found that on the Legion Wiki. Not sure if it has already been known.

That's a much nicer one than the one you had to squint and use the force to decipher from earlier.  Are there any of the Arc troopers or other units of nice, clear cards from the same source?

The Wiki isn't a source, it's the last place info appears. We've known what's on the unit card for a few weeks, though the quality might be a bit better, as previously mentioned.

I think Epic vehicles for Legion are very likely, in the long term.  Heck, if I was collecting Empire I'd totes pay a few hundred quid for an AT-AT.

How big would a LAAT be at Legion scale?

An AT ST's hight is about 7 meters. A LAAT's length is about 28 meters. So it should be about 4 times as long as the hight of an AT ST...and that would make it impossible to play it on the table. So the only options they have is to either dismiss that idea or to use a much smaller scale.

I know there can be a lot if different info on the internet and I'm not sure which is the official size, but for what I've seen the AT-ST is about 9 meters and the LAAT/i is about 18 meters. I think that the 28 meters one is the LAAT/c (the one that carries the AT-TEs).
