Which could also allow you to be able to take a shot that would normally be impossible, or ignore cover that would obscure if you model the unit leader elevated.

I'm glad that they don't just have ion 1. They could completely shut down vehicles and droids since it would stack. It looks limited to a max of just one ion token.

I know not everything is there yet, but for the cost Cad seems woefully overcosted and having lethal rather than pierce on the sniper just is a straight downgrade....kinda unimpressed.

Not really sold on Bane (command cards may change that), but man white defense dice? I think he would like to have a cheap commander to run him.

On the other hand, those commando droids look super fun and very versatile. Can't wait to get my hands on something so defensive.

Yeah, I can think of worse uses for a squad that sitting around keeping an AT-ST from doing anything an entire game.

We don't know that the other snipers aren't also getting adjusted in some way. Plus the sniper being a bad option doesn't seem the worst to me, it might be interesting to have a Strike team with Fives or Echo. 

 

Also, between Rex and the Arc troopers, a SIGNIFICANT portion of a GAR force can start the game already part way to objectives. That's some decent action economy in my opinion.

I'm sure that's one of the things in the unannounced but likely forthcoming Specialist boxes.

Rex, ARCs, and whoever Rex Scouting Parties with, all make for a very good supporting team to reach Padme who maybe Infiltrated, and a push for Secret Mission.

White Defense DICE!  That's the entire Rebel army besides Luke and Sabine, funny how the tables turn.

I think the opposite. Cad's abilities, weapons and Command cards look awesome

I think it's important to say Cad has Steady and rolls 4 black on his gun, and has jump. He's very movement friendly, good to flank and distract while droids advance. He seems like he's going to dish out a lot of Immobilize and Suppression tokens also, with his ability to divulge his command card to set up an attack or bomb or something? But we'll have to see what his full potential is before passing judgment. He will probably be best when Seps get a cheaper commander, but raw unit he has potential. The gauntlet is a brutal way to kill or jam up a major melee unit then retreat - say over some LOS blocking cover.

Thinking about it, it's good that the GAR sniper at least doesn't have High Velocity... Without High Velocity, they can still benefit from Fire Support from other units without the detriment of losing a Special rule.... I wonder if Immune: Deflect applies to the entire attack pool...

That is the strange thing. If FFG would make sure that CIS never got a cheap commander I would be find with that and build accordingly, BUT we know we will get a generic commander in that Specialist box. Still CIS is my favorite faction right now.

Think they are really pushing for special forces to be more then just strike teams. Those commandos could be cheap melee units or pretty good defense units I think. 

Also I not be surprised if they take another points change to Rebels/Empire next patch.

Are we actually arguing that steady on a 4 black dice surge to hit hero with speed 2 and jump is not good? I'm trying to sort out how that's bad and I'm coming up short. Can someone explain it to me like I'm 5? All I'm seeing is him moving between LOS blockers, shoot out 4 dice pierce shots while taking zero shots in between because of steady.

Let me know what I'm missing!

125 points for 6 wounds with white defense (surge to block) isn't great, even with the extra rolls for suppression. I think he is too fragile for his cost. Compare him to Sabine who also sits at 125 points.

why is everyone so surprised he has white defense dice? the list of red defense dice characters that aren't force wielders is:

mandalorians

veers (stormtrooper armor)

rex (clone armor)

what about cad gives him red defense dice on your mind?

It's not the lack of red, its the lack of other tools keeping him alive. Giving him nimble or Uncanny luck would have gone a long way to keeping him alive. Or low profile perhaps?

Maybe I'm over-valuing steady cuz the shooting between LOS blockers things (combined with jump, one of the best movement keywords in the game) seems super strong and solves for the white defense dice. Plus 6 health feels like enough of a buffer for the situations where you do end up taking shots. 

Or at least that's what I'm seeing.

Sabine has bad offense without the darksaber. 3 rainbow dice with no sharpshooter is really bad. Gunslinger is nice but situational. The best use I've gotten out of her is grabbing a supply crate and booking it.
