colincapwn 1 Posted January 20 Current units only, I am trying to figure out how to properly run droids. My whole "thing" Is running units and armies that typically haven't seen a lot of love or meta use. Currently, I think the separatists are the prime candidate for this topic and I am curious how to best run them. My list idea is: Grievous's shiny bois: (786) General Grievous (175) + Agg Tac. (10) + Est. Lead. (5) + Tenacity (4) + DT-57 "annihilator" (12) 6 x B1 Battle Droids (36) + E-5C Trooper (18) + Battle droid (6) 2 x Droidekas (100) + Hq Uplink (10) Commanc cards, all grievous' cards plus the generic. The idea behind this first list is... Full B1 squads that move up with grievous, and try and lock down the middle. I use both squads of destroyer droids to lock down one other flank, and eventually move my blob over to the centre. My only issue is... I don't think droids are survivable enough to pull it off. I would love advice on this approach (also, 14 points behind is my big bid for blue player)
colincapwn 1 Posted January 20 Second list idea involves Dooku and Grievous, but having 2 very expensive characters has me... a little spooked in terms of objective based games. Especially if the droids fold like tissue paper (easily and without resistance) then it will be up to grievous and dooku to do all the heavy lifting, and while powerful units, definitely lose wounds to a gunline style army D&G, Tha' OG's - 797/800 General Grievous: (175) + Agg Tact. (10) + DT-57 "annihilator" (12) Total 197 Count Dooku (205) + Force Push (10) + Force Reflexes (10) + Anger (5) Total 230 5 x B1 Battle Droids (36) + E-5C Trooper (18) total 270 Droidekas (100) total
Mace Windu 1,173 Posted January 20 (edited) With so few options available right now the list building options are pretty limited. B1 Squads almost always having a Heavy option seem to be the only real constant, mostly 5C over the 60R, though I'm a firm believer in the soon to be released 5s is almost strictly better than both, but that's just me. tips seem to be more in how you play your army, I would suggest aggressive tactics as a mainstay of any current format Separatist army. having 4 of your B1 squads with an extra surge each round can make a big difference to their survivability, and with the co-ordinated activations you should be getting the max 4 surges each turn if you have your squads spaced out correctly. I would also most certainly be putting force choke on Dooku as well, the ability to specifically kill a units heavy trooper before the rest of the squad can be very good at neutering a squad if you cant take it out completely before it activates. Wookerz 3 Posted January 22 Droids seriously need that content drop.... 1 Vector Strike reacted to this
Qraith 191 Posted January 24 Dooku + Grievous + 6 B1s is Pretty strong. Perfect activation control. Dooku and Grievous are beasts in melee. You have to make sure you get them into the enemy's troops
Memorare 206 Posted January 25 Dooku just doesnt do enough lifting for the points I find. The first list is better I think, tho try giving the driods the HQ uplink for coordinate hijinks and the extra droid in each unit of B1s is real handy.
Mokoshkana 752 Posted January 25 7 hours ago, Memorare said: Dooku just doesnt do enough lifting for the points I find. Dooku is a scalpel. He isn't going to crush face turn 1-3 but applied correctly, he can win you the game in the later turns. Force Choke/Push/Reflexes with esteemed leader (to keep his wounds down) gives a player a ton of versatility. Also Courage 3 is not to be dismissed. 1 Vector Strike reacted to this
shuntley 25 Posted January 26 I've run this list or slight variations of it to great success, just use the droidekas like a triple bike team, run em together and murder everything in their way General Grievous (175 + 31 = 206)--Aggressive Tactics (10), Strict Orders (5), Tenacity (4), DT-57 Annihilator (12)B1 Battle Droids (36 + 0 = 36)B1 Battle Droids (36 + 18 = 54)--E-5C B1 Trooper (18)B1 Battle Droids (36 + 28 = 64)--E-5C B1 Trooper (18), HQ Uplink (10)B1 Battle Droids (36 + 0 = 36)B1 Battle Droids (36 + 0 = 36)B1 Battle Droids (36 + 28 = 64)--E-5C B1 Trooper (18), HQ Uplink (10)Droidekas (100 + 0 = 100)Droidekas (100 + 0 = 100)Droidekas (100 + 0 = 100) 1 weebaer reacted to this

In order to keep your droids alive and to eliminate activations on your opponent's side, the 3 droidekas are essential. Carefully move toward the cent as you mentioned and use the 3 droidekas together to hit one flank forcing your opponent to move to safe ground closer to Grevious. You dont need a bid with droids nearly as bad as you do with rebs and clones imo. Imo grevious is the best choice currently. I think Dooku is amazing, but I think we will see him shine much more as other units drop. Plan your army to use Grevious' 1 pip in round 4ish. People that use it in turn 2-3 just watch him die after his gets his big attack off then they lose the game to panic. If your droidekas go done by round 4 or 5, then they have done their job because your opponent put way too much shots into them and not enough into your troops.
