Tonbo Karasu 2,606 Posted February 12 Is there any way we can get the disinformation in the title removed? It's annoying to see this every time I visit the forum. 4 5 Suzume Chikahisa, sndwurks, Sharatec and 6 others reacted to this

Avatar111 553 Posted February 18 ah.. too bad.. understandable though. too high of a prod value, not on par in term of game design with the current indie and semi-indie market. star wars was their only good game, and it is kind of completed at this point. they need to reboot how RPG are done and designed, and, sold. The recent re-hiring Katrina as Creative Director of Story and Setting and the indications that were given by many of the writers at the time of the layoffs that most of the work was likely moving to a freelance basis means I would wait until we hear something a little more official then rumors (even if the source is said to have "solid" connections with folks from inside the company) as there is a good chance that if their source was part of the layoff they may not be in the loop as to what is actually happening going forward. A little optimism is nice, but the d20 Radio guys are also on good terms with Kat. So, I’m going to proceed for now as if the news is reliable. Which means, since I was interested in, but hadn’t played this version of L5R, instead of waiting, I’m going to go ahead and pick up the books while I know I can. And that leads to a question: on average, hoe many sets of dice does everyone find adequate? I’ve got one from the Beginner Game, and figure I’ll try to snag at least 2 more. 2 Avatar111 and alotapotato reacted to this

Daemonmaster 2 Posted February 18 Truly a tragedy, this RPG system edition had inspired me to GM much more comprehensive and long term games, due to how much I liked the setting and rule system 1 neilcell reacted to this
ajtheronin 40 Posted February 18 Well, that sucks. Path of Wave was the last book ever announced, right? So basically that's it for L5RRPG? I hope they at least license the RPG to someone else. I think the reboot was great for the RPG as a setting and there are still should be published (for example, a new version of the Way of... books, a good city book and perhaps a campaign). 1 neilcell reacted to this

phillos 1,516 Posted February 18 (edited) It is surprising to me that they would stop supporting L5R considering we feel like we are in the middle of the support for this edition, but I don't have access to their sales numbers. They were extremely nice productions. So I'm sure it's not cheap to produce these books. I'm more curious how this effects the GeneSYS Foundry, since there is alot of people invested in that system. Feels like we should get an official announcement sooner rather than later for that. I hope this doesn't also mean that they are slowing down the fictions as well. The fictions for this edition of the game have been consistently fantastic IMO. Edited February 18 by phillos

And a Monster Manuel/encounter book would have been very handy to see. 3 Myrion, neilcell and Tatoun reacted to this
UnitOmega 2,818 Posted February 18 I wouldn't put the date at "2020" just yet, persay, Katrina is being very specific in saying "long term" on Discord and places, we don't actually know what that means yet, they could have another year of books indev they don't want to just slash and burn yet, for instance, or it could be "long term" until the latest PDF comes out. It's "dead" but will probably shamble around for a bit longer. Path of Waves at least should have some guidelines needed for more approachable homebrew to new 20 question options and schools. Like the foretold prophecy. It was doomed from the get go due to amateur design decisions and badly thought of line planning. And only the blind didn't see it. rip. 1 Daemonmaster reacted to this

The hints we've seen from comments made by Matt Holland was that the next 6-9 months of releases that have been announced, none of which were L5R related, are still going to happen and after that its a big unknown. I have seen an idea being floated around (although its mostly speculation and may be mostly wishful thinking so I wouldn't put that much faith in it) that they may be consolidating publishing into the new book imprint that they've started for the fictions and so they could move RPG development there on a freelance basis rather then in house. I hope there may be some truth to it, but I'm not counting on much at this point.
AtoMaki 1,431 Posted February 18 Huh. This is unfortunate . I expected one more "make or break" book at the very least. But maybe they will give us free mini-DLCs like the Mantis Clan? Fingers crossed for that. 1 neilcell reacted to this
