Looking for: clone flesh tone

Recommended Posts

With Rex out, and more clones without helmets on the way, I’m looking for ideas of flesh tone that matches the more olive skin of the clones.

I tried an experiment with one of my rebel veterans mixing some browns in with some flesh tones, and it sorta worked (doesn’t look bad anyway), but I’m not sure about how it will be repeatable enough for clones unless I batch them all at once.

Any good ideas? I’ve been working mainly off the Vallejo line and the skin I’ve seen is either more in line with European ancestry or African ancestry. Trying to find that middle ground is a bit of a trick.

Hmm. what about mixing Tan Earth (a good light-brown) with something? I haven't painted my non-helmeted Rex head yet (lol), but in my head, I could see trying Tan Earth and maybe mix with Flat Flesh, or Basic Flesh (I think that's the lighter one?), for a lighter tone? I think that is where I would start, and is a simple starting place with only 2 colors.

I've tried a thousand combinations of flesh tones from a dozen lines of paint in search of a perfect olive skin tone.  And I've settled on one that works very well, and it's very forgiving.

It's a mixture of these two P3 colors:

Midlund Flesh
Ordic Olive

If you've never used p3, it's quite a bit different from Citadel/Army Painter/Vallejo.  It's a much thinner consistency, but maintains a high pigment level, so it needs little to no thinner and blends very easily.  It's not ideal for everything, but I do love this skintone combo.

I don't have a Legion example, as I haven't done any hats-off clones yet, but here's what it looks like on a Kingdom Death mini:
