Krennic with AT-ST + DTs (My Worlds List)

Recommended Posts

Deploy the Garrison
792/800 (10 activations)
Commanders:
 - Director Krennic (90): Aggressive Tactics (10) = 100 (great commander, great card)
Corps: (best corps right now, maybe a little light on total number of boots, but the deathtroopers are basically shoretroopers without their heavy at range 4)
 - 2× Shoretroopers (52): T-21B Trooper (32) = 168
 - 2× DF-90 Mortar Trooper (36): Comms Relay (5) = 82
Special Forces: (Pierce 1 is still good on a 48 point unit. Recon is here so I can pull off wounds on RtS)
 - Strike Team (20): DLT-19x Sniper (28) = 48
 - 2× Strike Team (20): DLT-19x Sniper (28), Recon Intel (2) = 100
 - Death Troopers (76): Comms Relay (5), E-11D Config (8) = 89
Heavies: (Best AT-ST build, tons of flexibility, great at smashing other vehicles)
 - AT-ST (170): Elite Armor Pilot (10), Twin Light Blaster Cannon (20), Linked Targeting Array (5) = 205

•Voracious Ambition, •Covert Observation •Ambush, ••Deploy the Garrison, ••Push, •••Annihilation Looms, •••Assault, ••••Standing Orders

I actually think I can use Covert Observation now that tauntauns and NTFS is a big deal. 1 less tauntaun getting an order could really hurt the total impact of a charge and really throw off the whole momentum. As for clones, droids and imperials, 1 less unit getting an order is always good because that is less tokens on the board from Aggressive tactics, more AI attacking and less control.  Edit: I was thinking of Sabotaged Communications, Covert Observation is still trash. 😔

This is my worlds list assuming that all no other units are coming to surprise us before then. Any big changes or other options better than the DT's? The best counterbuild in this is 3x shoretroopers and mortar with one less sniper and no DT, but that is a lot less activation control on VA and Ambush and the Mortar isn't any better than the sniper and the DT's don't lose anything to the shoretroopers at range 4. Range 3 hurts the DTs, but if I play it right I can mitigate it right?

What does "so I can pull off wounds on RtS" mean?

Covert Observation just lets you look at some (not even all) of your opponent's command cards. It's total trash. You must  be thinking of Sabvotaged Communications, a one-pip Rebel Command card.

Did you mean Sabotage the Moisture Vaporators? Otherwise I also don't know what you mean by "pull off wounds."

Are you expecting more vehicle lists at worlds? Why? Because of the new Clone and Separatist vehicles?

What was your line of thought behind switching from an AT-ST to  the tank?

I am a fairly new player and am curious about expected changes in the meta.

I expect there will be a few vehicles at worlds, mostly AT-RTs, GAV tanks and AT-STs. As long as the new vehicles, I believe they will fit into those factions very well, so that could also see some play.

The reason I switched to tank was because the price and the utility of LTA+ Aggressive Tactics on the tank makes it a better option over the ST who does not synergize as well.

I am a firm believer in the theory that anything you want to be in the meta can be. If you like Veterans, run em. You want 3 Deathtroopers with Palpatine? run it.

I love this attitude.  I think people look at a unit and evaluate “can I stick this into my existing tournament list and replace something” instead of “could I build a competitive list that Incorporates this.”

I’m not a competetive player, so I’m not really qualified to say what’s going to take too place in a tournament.  But I’m certain if the “field” of participants was less eager to chase the meta list and instead try to come up with different strategies it would greatly impact the more competetive players’ list building because they would need to prepare at least a little for uncertainty.

I’m curious about your thought process in tossing the ATST (a damage dealing powerhouse) in favor of Iden Versio.  I’m also interested in your thoughts in the dewback.  It’s clearly a less efficient unit that the tauntaun, but as it’s an absolute murder machine in melee it seems like a very reasonable counter to include in Imperial lists.  But no one seems interested in it.  Any thoughts on why that is?

Just some thoughts, I have fought a multiple dewback list, and the fascination with them may come from the fact that they have armour 1, as well as spur. The unit, like you said, hits like a truck on steroids in melee, and usually has a reliable way to get there. The issue is playing it so it doesn't get tabled before turn 3...

I was trading the AT-ST for Iden because she has better range and her damage is almost guaranteed. The ST. hasn't worked as well as I would have liked it to against other imperial armies, but it does shine against droids.

The dewback, looks like it should be a monster, and the 3 red 3 white is deceiving.  The dewback's avg damage against a regular stormtrooper unit is 1.87 (or 2.33 with tenacity, which is an autoinclude). This isn't bad, but we need to compare this damage output to a few other things. 1. Tauntauns (Tenacity) 2. 74-Z speeder Bikes (with LTA) 3. Shoretroopers (with T-21B)

All of these units deal more damage than the dewback for a cheaper price, and most come with other upsides like more health, longer range and the ability to hide a 2nd model in the unit (to get free heavy cover). The one upside is armor. Armor could potentially save 1 for each attack done against the dewback. When we look closer though, the tauntaun also essentially has armor 2, because of the dodge tokens. This means that the dewback needs to be shot at 3 times to get more use out of armor. This doesn't take into account that the tauntauns can move around to get some heavy cover using cohesion. I think the dewback just needs an upgrade of dice from white to black dice. This will not increase the ceiling of damage from the dewback, but will increase the avg number of hits. You don't want to charge in with your tenacity dewback and only get 3 hits, you want the full die pool because you are paying 94 points for it! Statistically, in the same setup as before, the dewback manages 2.68 damage after defensive rolls. While this doesn't sound like a major increase, I believe if it was paired with a tunedown of other units that are needing a tune down, we could see the dewback realistically appear in other lists.

Tenacity wouldn’t trigger against stormtroopers though, because they never have a wound token.

And the dewback does have a suppressive melee attack.  So that seems worth something.

Tenacity's trigger is not on the unit you're attacking. IT's on the unit that has it equipped.
