Beck interactions?

Recommended Posts

Commander Beck

Quote

"During your activation, you may resolve a command as if you had spent a command token. If you do, gain 1 raid token of the matching type.

You may resolve this effect twice per activation."

Is her ability the equivalent of spending a token?  My understanding is her ability is the equivalent of spending the token.

Can she trigger nav teams?

Can she trigger Piett?

As written, she definitely can trigger effects like Nav Teams and Engine Techs, because they work with any resolution of the matching command.

Piett takes effect when you are spending a command token to resolve a command, not when you are resolving the command itself (which Beck jumps straight to without spending anything.)  I would feel confident saying no, Piett doesn't work with Beck.

Okay, that's great if true.  Do note that Engine Techs is 'after you execute...' while nav team specificalys mentions nav tokens ie. 'your nav tokens can...'.

She seems extremely good for ships that want a long range reroll and trigger a support team each turn like an Arquitens, Harrow, or an Onager Testbed.

Yeah I actually searched your youtube for Beck before I posted.  Do you have an unofficial opinions on the matter?

As Jabbawookie points out, some effects only require a resolution of a command to trigger. Others require that an actual physical "token" be spent.

I'm currently of that interpretation as well but as I said, but I need that thing in my hands before I know for certain what it says.

I agree with @The Jabbawookie, Beck can trigger effects that only require the resolution of a command like Engine Techs or Nav Team, but not Piett because of the timing.

To break it down a little, Piett says: "When a friendly ship spends only a command token to resolve a command..."

By the RRG: "A “when” effect occurs at the moment that the specified event occurs and cannot occur again for that instance of the event."

And finally, Beck's effect is "...as if you had spent a command token"

So basically with Beck you are missing the timing to trigger Piett.
