Question About Attachment Control

Hi,

I'm new to L5R and have been messing with a unicorn and a scorpion deck. I can't remember the name of the card, but it stated that you can take control of an opponents attachment as long as it was "allowed". My question was, what are the limitations to what is allowed and what isn't. For example, the unicorn clan had a few attachments that specially said "attach this to a unicorn character" or "attach this to a cavalry character". Does that mean that if I tried to take control of one of those attachments, I would have to have a character myself that has those traits to be attached to?
