gearhead 3 Posted May 14, 2010 I'm considering getting into this game and wanted to know if there's any active play in the Kansas City area? Gearhead
Dobbler 3 Posted May 22, 2010 Gearhead We have an active group down in the Springfield, Missouri area. We have 12-14 local players, with 4-10 showing up on our Saturday play nights. Recently, one of our members moved to the KC area, and he travels down here once a month or so. Other than that, I don't know of any local KC players. gearhead 3 Posted May 26, 2010 Do you guys have a website? Maybe a schedule of tournaments? Do you meet at a game store?
Dobbler 3 Posted May 26, 2010 Gearhead said: Do you guys have a website? Maybe a schedule of tournaments? Do you meet at a game store? We meet at a store called Metagames in Springfield. Metagames website is found at www.mguinc.com The major tournament that we currently have scheduled is the Regional that takes place the weekend of June 11-13. This would be a great opportunity to come down and meet the community of players down here (as well as a few traveling from out of town). Friday night (June 11) we will be having a draft event and you will not need any cards. Saturday afternoon (June 12) is the Joust portion of the regional and Sunday is the Melee portion. Approximately two weeks after the regional we will be starting up league play. We normally meet on Saturday evenings at Metagames, and during league play we will have a tournament every Saturday for those that can make it. Currently we still meet every Saturday, but lately we've just been playing non-tournament games to get ready for the regional. We also have a Facebook page called Valar Midwestous. This is the name our meta often refers to itself as. We put most of the public information at that site. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help! If you are interested in coming to our regional, there is going to be a large group of players crashing at my place, so if you have interest in coming, there would be a place for you to crash! -Dobbler
Husemann 0 Posted June 17, 2010 Hello! What side of KC are you on? I recently moved from Springfield to KC and have been having the issue of no practice. (Thank the lord for OCTGN). I really haven't found any game stores around to be able to go check out local games and recruit players, or find somewhere to play. But if you have any info I'm sure we could get something started! gearhead 3 Posted June 29, 2010 Sorry it took a while to get back to this... I've picked up the starter set, the martell set, the new lords of winter set and the king in the north pack. I've got a pretty solid group of 4-5 players who are learning the game with me. Hopefully they'll start picking up their own cards too. Springfield is a 200 mile trip for me, so getting out there, for anything other than a tournament will be tough. I'll keep it in mind though. I live north of Kansas City in Atchison. (about an hr north) Occasionally I get down to Table Top games to play board games, but again, that's a 90 minute trip down so not too often. If anyone is interested, our group would love to host a player to teach us the "in's and out's" of this neat game. We're having a great time learning. Also, is there an FAQ anywhere in the forums? Can't seem to find one and we have some questions regarding timing and some other things...Here's what I can ask so far... Do plot cards affect other players as well as the one who plays it? I know some of them are quite clear, but a few are a bit fuzzy on who they affect. Shadows cards, what does it mean a card is "in the shadows"how are they played? What effect on play do they have? Card like "Catelyn Stark" (LoW) which allow for kind of "instant" play, do they require the cost to be paid for them? Or are they free when they are used for their suprise effect? Thanks
Dobbler 3 Posted June 30, 2010 Since Huseman lives in KC now, he is the best candidate to come out there and help your young meta get rolling. However, if it is a Friday night, I could see about making the trip up there as well. You will find all of the FAQ/rules documents that you need right here: http://new.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite_sec.asp?eidm=10&esem=
kaellaar 0 Posted July 5, 2010 I'm a relatively new player in KC as well (Independence, Missouri to be exact). I'd be interested in meeting up some folks at Table Top sometime.
Husemann 0 Posted July 8, 2010 This is fantastic! Although Dobbler would be the ideal choice to help the new meta, I would be willing to come help anytime I'm available. Like I said, I don't really know where any game stores are since I'm new to the area. Where is Table Top at? Also, if you have questions that you would like answered like cards or rules, feel free to email me if you'd like. dante-117@hotmail.com I have been wanting to get a meta started around the KC area but I don't actually know many people around, so I'll be glad to help in whatever way I can! gearhead 3 Posted August 12, 2010 Back from a work trip followed by vacation. I and maybe 1 or 2 others would be interested in meeting up sometime to learn the game correctly. Right now, we're playing 45 card decks (I am providing all the cards and have quite a collection now...) in primarily melee format. I'd definitely be up for meeting at Tabletop Games to play either on Thursday nights or Saturdays. Dennis You can email me at shadowdf47@yahoo.com though I have sent a couple PMs here too. Husemann 0 Posted August 17, 2010 A dedicated game night, with 3-6 hours of gameplay would be ideal. I realize this may not be possible for some people, but 3+ hours is a great amount of time to get plenty of games in.
Wes Vaughn 0 Posted November 29, 2010 Are you still playing AGOT at Metagames in Springfield? Would like to play when you all meet at the game store. I'm in Branson, by the lake. Wes
Sturn 2,947 Posted May 14, 2011 Gearhead - I know I'm a year late in replying, but I'm from Atchison also.
