How about rewriting Heir to match the new canon instead?

The big problem I see with that is where would it be in the time line?  Post-Aftermath, Pre-Sequel Trilogy causes problems for why it wasn't mentioned or why the New Republic was so willing to let a new force arise after Thrawn kicked their collective asses for a while, Post-Sequel Trilogy means it'll have a whole new group of characters to write in as most of the main characters of the books are dead or don't exist in this universe.

Just like with anything post-Rebels, Zahn really doesn't have free reign to do what he wants with the character; Disney/Lucasfilm does, and until they decide what they want to do, Thrawn has to remain in limbo.  I'd venture a guess that Thrawn's ultimate fate won't even be left in Zahn's hands anyway, regardless of what they decide.  I think Filoni or someone else will deal with it in a show, animated or otherwise, or even in Episode IX.  Sad to say, but the thought of Thrawn in a numbered Star Wars film no longer is exciting, but something I shudder thinking about.

Even sadder than that, I think that the rest of the Star Wars Canon Fandom agrees.

CONFIRMED: Rey is the lovechild of Thrawn and Ezra, you heard it here first.

I mean, that would certainly explain her...... I dunno, I got nothing.

Possible, though I wonder if Thrawn really wouldn't fit the scope of the show.  Nothing I've seen indicates they'll do broad, sweeping stories like that, though who knows?

While it is interesting, I'd honestly rather find out where Thrawn and Ezra wound up.

But learning about the Ascendancy will be cool.

I don't know why they couldn't have done both. They could have ended up in Ascendancy space and then got wrapped up working together to fight some threat to the Ascendancy.

I'll still consume this media because I enjoy Zahn's writing and Thrawn in particular, but I think it could have been more, unless that timeline is forbidden for written media for some reason.

Heck even if they wanted to do stories about them in Mandelorian, there's still a few years between when they zoom off and when Mandelorian takes place.

I am in the camp that throwing thrawn in after 9 would be the best place for with what they did with the canon. It would match up with the original EU pretty well.

Galaxy devided betweent New New republic and leaderless First Order.

Rey rebuilding the Jedi order with help maybe from ahsoka, Ezra, jacen, baby Yoda, and Jedi survivors.

Bring in threats from beyond the rim that they been hinting at as being the future big baddie for the series. The vong or those bug people.

........... Unfortunately, I think they are just throwing everything at the wall to see what sticks and it will be a few years until they really try something big. Which really sucks because Resistance Reborn was an amazing book that used canon books, comics, and video games to make everything so much better!
