SSGClark 25 Posted September 23, 2019 Good morning. I am looking for a bit of inspiration. I am working on my Rebel Veterans. My main army scheme is desert. Was thinking a high desert unit where there could be some light scatter of snow, but just cold enough for the gear they are equipped with. Any thoughts from the amazing painters that I have seen here. Thanks in advance.
SSGClark 25 Posted September 24, 2019 Changed the title. I hope that helps.
Kwatchi 88 Posted September 24, 2019 I struggled with coming up with a desert paint scheme I liked for vets. I tried some combinations of earthtones but ended up frustrated and in the end sold them to a buddy. I have a mental block with them or something. I’ve seen other’s desert scheme examples on here that look great. I think the key is to do the face shawl a vibrant contrasting colour - I went for faded brown and it just looked wrong to me. My 2 creds.
SSGClark 25 Posted September 24, 2019 I like the idea of the face scarves being different. Like a deep red. Hmm very interesting.
Qualitypunk 156 Posted September 25, 2019 Deserts get really cold at night, nothing to keep the heat in. I remember reading about desert and jungle operations where people froze/died of hypothermia because some supply genius knew better. Canadians going to Afghanistan took snowshoes and arctic warfare just incase. I'd recommend looking at high res desert images online to get some inspiration. When painting vehicles and planes in WW2 pastels and pink were common, maybe that will work. Rebels don't have uniformity like Imperials, that's why I paint my Rebels with different camo patterns, stuff they brought from home or scavenged, and traditional patterns from nomadic or semi-nomadic cultures. Transmogrifier 1,543 Posted September 26, 2019 Star Wars uniforms/weapons are based on/inspired by mid 20th century weapons and uniforms so I would just do some image searches for uniforms worn in whatever biome you’re thinking of (say Afghanistan for your high desert idea) and get inspired from there. Example of Soviets in cold weather gear in Afghanistan.

If you have a copy of EA Star Wars Battlefront 2015, might I suggest inspiration from the colors of the Rebel Troopers on the Sullust map. They have a nice mix and I think that color scheme would fit them well. I am sure those colors are probably used on another map but they definitely used them for their fatigues on Sullust.
