Any word on CW release yet?

Recommended Posts

From what I've seen on Facebook, looks like the Distributor(s? I think North American is just Alliance for FFG/Asmodee?) has gotten to the the point where paying whatever penalty may exist for shipping early is cheaper than continuing to let the SW product take up space in their warehouses.

Well squad, yesterday I was able to pick up  core set, extra trooper boxes, and upgrade card pack.

Good luck getting your cores on time!

Congrats!  May the Force be with you and your painting!

Yeah, Alliance is the only distributor, and by all accounts, they're not a particularly good/popular one.  My FLGS really doesn't like them for variety of reasons.

and after all those complaints and cancelled pre-orders by others at you LGS, it ended up just being a week delay for you

They weren’t complaints, they were facts.

I actually didn’t pick up this box from my LGS. I found a good deal on eBay and it turned out the seller lived 30 minutes from where I live. We striker a deal and now I can paint.

So yes, my LGS won’t be getting my sales for early CW content.

Lord I need to reread my messages before I post.

I bought some painting supplies from my LGS today so I guess they got my money after all.

Well, it would still be far more than a week delay, considering the early dates for the release were early/mid September, and slowly walked back to where they are now.

But ffg never actually said mid September. They said Q3. That can be late September. Officially they are only two weeks behind secdual.

The mid September date was assumed by players, it was just rumour. What ffg needs is a more official way to present dates. When we don't get official articles and the upcoming page is not updated people latch on to whatever rumours they hear and we end up in the situation we have now.

Technically you're right.  Technically Matt was right in saying that there wasn't a delay until there was.  The silence on release date combined with the various circumstantial evidence of an early/mid September release would indicate more to the story.  (again through the Rumor mill, but I've heard more than once that the earlier date was give in a Q&A at GenCon, or a livestream, though being a rumor, I've not been able to track that down)  Reading between the lines on Matt's post makes it pretty clear to me that there were a series of delays, and since they could still claim Q3 if they got it out by September 30, they didn't want to say anything.  That became a moot point when it finally spilled into October, and then finally mid October.

I don't know about you guys, but I am looking forward to the Clone Wares set on Amazon!

Now Amazon sellers can't even get the name right....

I shouldn't be too surprised I guess, I ordered a board game off of Amazon once, and received an old black and white Sherlock Holmes film instead... Apparently they shared a barcode.

On a serious note...

If it does indeed release on the 18th, where would you guys suggest getting it so that I have it in my hands on the 18th??

Preorder at your FLGS.

That's what I do, and I always have the product in my hands the day of release (provided that's the day I get to the store).

Otherwise... Anywhere you order from has risks (even FLGS to be honest). Shipment to that store could be delayed (and just that store), they may get less product than they order, any number of things could go wrong. Some online retailers may have a better success rate than others, unfortunately I'm not as knowledgeable on that method of purchasing Legion.

The release from Asmodee also said they were out of stock and "allocations apply".  So until they announce what the allocations are none of the UK resellers will know how many of the ones they have ordered they will actually receive, so if it's a low allocation some may not be able to fulfil the orders they already have.  I would suggest waiting until early next week (when we'll find out what the allocations are), then ask your preferred supplier(s) if they have any spare stock or not before placing an order.

Wait just a tick, wasn't one of the stated reasons for pushing back the release to October 18th to (paraphrasing here) "ensure there was sufficient stock to meet demand?"

Release is a week away. My only question is: Where's the hype?

It died with the number of false starts.

half of us don’t believe the date any more than the last promised date.

I am excited to be painting Jedi, but I’m not hyped about the release when I don’t even know if I’m getting it then. I’d rather save my excitement for when it’s in hand over another disappointing missed deadline

The Hype died in September. The funeral (of the hype) was on oct. 4th.

I'm still looking forward to it as I am buying into legion for the first time with the Clone Wars. But my Hype is gone, as there isn't anything new to discuss. The set is out and spoiled since Gencon. Everything we know about the second wave of clone wars stuff (Tanks, commanders, and second troop options) has already been discussed "ad nauseum" until we see more of the rules and upgrades. Not enough people with sets are posting/creating content to keep the Hype going. I expect the excitement (both mine and the communities) to return when we all have the core sets in hand.

For what it's worth (nothing?), the "Upcoming" page has the Clone Wars core, Phase I clones, B1 Battle droids, and Card packs are listed as shipping. Not sure when it was changed.

There’s product still on that upcoming page marked “in development” that was in the Wild. So, I’m not sure if any of that means much.

The Upcoming page is widely joked to be maintained by an unpaid intern who only works once a week. It's about as accurate as reading tea leaves.

Additionally, it is possible there will be less hype for future releases considering we've had two back to back with delays which weren't communicated very well.

Dewbacks we have an explanation, but no release window.

Clone Wars we have a series of delays (two confirmed, more rumoured), with an abortive announcement, a store going rogue, now rumours of a shortage in some markets, and no guarantees this won't happen to future Clone Wars releases. Combined with the relative lack of units announced for the Clone Wars factions, hard to get super excited since it seems it will take what, four months or so until they get their second corps? Who knows how long the "catch-up" will take if the current ratio to GCW and CW releases is maintained (I think it's 1:1 right now?).

After years of buying from FFG/Asmodee, I've safely concluded that they aren't a company, but rather 3 or 4 children in an overcoat pretending to be a company....

At this point CW release mess ups aren't even at the top of my list of FFG related salt. I guess the asmodee reps didn't even know what a prime  championship kit was in the Ohio region. Armada OP isn't getting an event in Ohio because of how incompetent their staff is. (So far I've heard that 3 stores applied.)

TLDR, it's not just the upcoming page, FFG/asmoee needs to sort the entire business side of their operation.

Just to be clear, I didn't say there wasn't enough to meet (customers) demand.  I said that not all resellers are going to get the full quantity they ordered on day 1.

So, for example, if a fictional company had sold 20 units on pre-order but had ordered 100 from the distributor to cover pre-orders and a few months of stock, they may only get  an allocation of 80 units.  Not everything they asked for, but more than enough to cover the pre-orders and post release sales.  Resellers often order more than they need, sometimes because they've been stung by allocations before, so over order in anticipation that they'll get less than they ordered because of allocations, which in turn causes allocations!
