Have they just made the assault cruiser an immortal fighter killer

The old mc80 assault cruiser was always a hard take down. Some of the new cards may just have tipped it over the edge to pretty much unkillable.

1) kyrista agate, gives it a 3rd redirect and sudo ECM

2)expert shield techs, means you can use your 3 redirects to just cancel  3 damage ( 6 if your burn them) instead of redirecting if you want to keep your shields up or when your shielded are dead. Meaning those 3 redirects are always useful. 

3) support team of your choice....

4) Advanced projects paired with the 3 redirects means you can burn that whole 15 shield battery before scrapping hull

5) EWS just gives extra love to the side being most hit. 

Pair this up with another hard as nails exudus fleet title ship and it’s got 6 engineers each round without a token....

 

As for the fighter killer bit.....linked turbo laser towers for AAA 4 ( 5 with dial) optimal colour mix dice means it’s going to start hurting aces at the same time as  being almost immune to damage from anything other than a correctly places very heavy big bomber group.

For the wider group...

You could hid a couple of blue dice AAA ships behind it with linked turbo laser towers throwing 3-4 dice.....the other guys losing an expensive ace each round if you do.

Jainians light with linked turbo laser tower, can hide behind its big friend adding another 3-4 dice into an ace..

neb b escort vanguard, with turbo laser tower can throw another 4-5 AAA dice...with aux shield team and tec + gunnery team  gives it hardness  and dual role giving extra punch against light ships manovering to the front arches.... 

Last little bucket of love is a well equipped mc30 with the lovely new shield techs....turbo laser tower and external racks gives this a first throw of  5-6 AAA dice ( you can go for exudus fleet to work with mc80 or just have admonition for a stupid hard not glass cannon....that can Alfa strike an expensive ace or ISD that comes to close.....

that’s a fleet that can actually resist the small cuts of a large fighter group very well and hurl back 20 mixed and rerollable dice into the face of aces and key fighters.....

it’s also got the chops to go face to face with any old star destroyer that comes along...

Is the ship only fleet back in the game ?

As to your actual point... I think you're right, and I think it was already back in the game.  LTT and Advanced Transponder Net are probably going to have massive effects on squadrons.  That said, you can't Ackbar out the sides if you're flakking out the front or rear, and you can't take Gunnery Team.

It will be good, maybe very good, but killable between Norra double-spending those shields it cares so much about and Sloane eating through all the fancy token-based shenanigans.

Norra was the bane of my existence back when I was running the double pickles, losing the shields so quickly really hinders the MC80H1. I suppose the addition of some of the new anti-squad options could help try to shut her down though.
