Vykk Draygo 917 Posted July 23, 2019 Hopefully it will be released again, in theaters and home video. It would be nice to own a better copy of the far superior original.
Jo Jo 4,808 Posted July 23, 2019 I got the old DVD set that have each movie in its original form, but in crappy 4:3 format. Does not look good on a modern HD TV. 3 Odanan, Vykk Draygo and JudgeDeath reacted to this
Demon4x4 222 Posted July 23, 2019 I've got bootleg blu rays of the original versions that look pretty good. Might have to start looking for the same thing for The Resistance and Freemakers II here pretty soon...
Forgottenlore 9,838 Posted July 23, 2019 Meh. I’ve got SW:Revisited. I’m good.
JudgeDeath 154 Posted July 24, 2019 I have the DVD's where the current special edition version is the main disc and the original theatrical cut is a bonus disc. It's clear when watching it how much of an improvement to some of the effects the special editions made (although I don't have an HD tv so that reduces how much the lower quality of the old effects show up). Nevertheless, I still prefer to watch the original versions as they were how I first saw those films and some of the changes still bug me (Han shot first dammit!!). The best versions as far as I'm concerned are the digitally remastered editions that came out on VHS in the late 80's (I think). They had the benefit of improved effects (really noticeable in A New Hope's lightsabre scenes, for instance) but no new scenes and left other elements of the plot alone. Still have them in a box but nothing worth playing them on.
