2nd Squadron Heavy List

Recommended Posts

No idea if this would be any good, but some inter-action between squadrons and ISD might be effective I guess.

Only three activations, and I'm not too sure of Spinal Armaments on the ISD, but wasn't sure what to do with the last 9 points.

Best suggestion: Don't use an ISD I for this. Cymoon or ISD II are better for what you are doing with it.

And you will have some serious problems to activate your squadrons with this setup. Maybe change the Boosted Comms with Hangar Bays.
Jendon and the shuttle give you enough range for the activation. The Boosted Comms are just an overkill.

The VSD I is sadly a tanky point grave. It will not do any damage with the black dice. Sadly the VSD II is so much more expensive, but i would try to get this VSD II in, instead of the VSD I. You can use DCaps on it (sadly giving up the squadron bonus; Hangar bays or Boosted Comms). but an VSD II with DCaps is insane. But 12 points more is really alot.

A last suggestion would be for the ISD (Cymoon or II). Use a defense slot (ECM or Early Warning System). It is helping quite well when the ISD is under fire.

A little background why i suggest to get away from the black dice ships (ISD I and VSD I). You are at 400 points. This means your opponent will choose. And he will take first, most likly because your missions are (and cannot) be this strong. But only 3 ships and second player, means you will not be able to get your ships in close distance. In the end, your damage with the ships will be far too low with only these few red dice. This is why you need longer range via blue dice (Cymoon, ISD II and/or VSD II).

@Tokra Thanks for the suggestions. I played against me rebel playing son last night. He also took a lot of squadrons (119 points). We had the same points and he won the roll off. He chose first player.

If only I'd read your post before playing the game, as you r comment about the black dice was spot on. I was using two VSD1s and an interdictor. One VSD succumbed to bombers before being able to use the black dice, while the other was only able to use them once.

Back to the drawing board again, but enjoying the learning experience.

@Tokra hoping this is a bit better?:

Sloane,

Cymoon, Avenger, Minister Tua, ECM - 150 points

Gozanti, Boosted Comms - 27 points

Gozanti, Comms Net - 25 points

Arquitens, Cpt Needa, TRC - 63 points (I guess Needa is not absolutely necessary, but a second evade can only be good?)

Squadrons - Ciena Ree, Col Jendon, Dengar, Howlrunner, Maarek Steele, Sabre Squadron, Valen Rudor, Lambda shuttle - 134 points.

399 points total

I did consider a GSD1, with Ord Experts and Ex Racks, at 63 points, too, but not sure this would be as effective as the arq, if I can keep it at long range. Plus I don't feel it fits with the rest of the fleet for some reason.

I hope there is a degree of synergy between Sloane, Avenger title and the use of Maarek twice per turn (where possible) to use up defence tokens. The arq can then chip in with some damage from the TRC. Sounds great in theory, but does that match reality?

you should try it out. The only change i suggest would be to remove the Boosted Comms and change Needa with Brunson. She is way better than a second evade token.
And maybe you have room to place Hondo somewhere. He is so handsome when you need an emergency command sometimes.

The Arquitens is basically a VSD I on long range. Even better, because of the evade token. The only problem comes up, when someone can get close to it (squadrons for example). In this case the Arquitens will die faster than a VSD.

@Tokra Thanks. Usually have Brunson, and yes, she will likely be better than Needa, although squeezing her in might be an issue. Ill see what I can do.

Unless I can get a game at home, possible rather than probable, it will be at least three weeks before I can try this. But try it I will!

Those are some very solid squads for Sloane. I agree with Tokra that Brunson on the Arquitens is better than Boosted Comms on one Gozanti.

If you do that, I would also suggest that you remove TRC from the Arquitens and put Intensify Firepower! on the Cymoon.

Ok gents, thanks for the suggestions.

revised list as follows

Sloane, Cymoon, Minister Tua, Intensify Firepower, Gunnery Team, Expanded Hanger Bay, ECM

Arquitens, Brunson, ECM

Gozanti, Hondo, Slicer Tools, Expanded Hanger Bay.

squadrons as above.

The hanger bays will let me control all squadrons.

ECM on the arquitens is expensive. Worth it?

Slicer tools? My thinking being that as I will need to keep the Gozanti close to the action, ST might be useful to mess up plans.

Thoughts?

A Cymoon with Tua and Ex-Hangar is only 1 point cheaper than an ISD-II. The ISD-II has better Flak and 8 dice out the front rather than 7 and the flank arcs I find are more useful.

Swap to and ISD-II, then you could take Boosted Comms. Could move Brunson here or look at a SFO or SADviser.
Drop ECM from the Arquitens and think about RBDs or just nothing at all. Needa+TRC could be good to get some more damage.
Gozanti is fun. Could drop EH or Slicers for points or Comms Net or Suppressor.
