Your favorite rebel squadron setup?

Recommended Posts

I normally play imperials where setting up a good squadron base is relatively straight forward:

Dengar + Mauler

Jendon + Maarek

Then fill out the rest of the points with your choice of advanced + bombers or ties + interceptors depending on what you want to do.

I want to try some rebel lists but am a little stumped on how to set up rebel squadrons. Do all rogues work or is Yavaris + non-rogues the way to go?

I would really not call Dengar + Mauler or Jendon + Stele a "setup" (especially when you fill up the rest with randoms stuff). it is more a fitting combination.

There is no single best way at all. The squadrons depend on the rest of the fleet.
Everything from 8 YT-2400 over 13 Y-Wings to 8 Aces can work, if the fleet can handle or support it.

if you don't have ships for activation squadrons, you should use all rogues.
If you want to focus on squadrons you want Yavaris and Adar Tallon. Along with strong squadrons.
Another important factor is the admiral. Raddus and Rieekan normally use quite different squadrons. For example Rogues on Raddus, Aces on Rieekan (not always!).

What combos are there for rebels:
Biggs + Escord
Wedge + Dutch
Nora + Bomber
Jan + generics

Normally the rebel squadrons work quite well on their own. Not like the imperials, who have way more synergies with each other.

The last part that is important are the missions and the range of the ships. 2x VCX is sometimes a really good basic. Especially when you need the relay and when you will be second player. Token shifting is really strong, but you need 2 VCX for it.

I like the silly squadron wing combo of:

Squadrons:
• Norra Wexley (17)
• Keyan Farlander (20)
• Hera Syndulla (28)
• Lieutenant Blount (14)
• 8 x Z-95 Headhunter Squadron (56)
= 135 Points

Each ace gets 2 Z-95s to follow it, flying independantly to avoid clustering, then they converge on a target. I just need more Z-95s without buying 4 packs.

just not legal for 400 point fleets 😁.

But silly indeed 😉. For me it is way to hard to activate these squadrons.

We've been play a non-standard RPG campaign. But as I told the new players, "every ship has an a squadron value... never underestimate a suprise activation."

Do you have a writeup for the rules/missions/player progression of the RPG that you could share, it sounds interesting.

No one has bought boarding troopers yet, so I havent added boarding. But basically, boarding will work like this:

When you activate boarding troopers or engineers, you may either use the standard effect, or may attempt to sieze the vessel with the boarding minigame. Which would just be two legion squads rolling at each other during the squadron phase. If the attacking team kills the defending team, they have siezed the command bridge and have control of the vessel.

Their first mission I gave them was a base defense mission. They had a CR90a, Neb-B escort, Imperial Raider (consular model from Mel), and a Hammerhead. Imperial cards were face down with a speed dial on it set to two, and one set to three. Each turn it ticked down by one. Turn three of letting the players determine idea, speeds, and get in a battle line, three arquitens light cruisers came out of hyperspace. Turn four, a Victory came in.

The players sorta panicked and ran, as the arquitens laid into them. They then hit a supply line which caused the players to get some resourses and unlock a few new things.

Game three, I gave them a choice, attempt to destroy a minor outpost, or sieze an old Acclamator, using an Acclamator statline from the driveyards. They siezed the Acclamator and got out of dodge while the imperials tried to kill them.

Why bring Norra when the only other squad she can help is Keyan?

1: I have her, got a spare from a friend. I dont have all the Rebel aces yet.

2: helps strip shields faster so that ships can pound into empty sides. I like to run ACMs on my missle boats to strip shields so it helps in that regard.

Like @Tokra it really depends on the rest of your fleet if you have a flight controllers platform with Toryn Farr I really like this set up.

• Tycho Celchu (16)
• Shara Bey (17)
• Gold Squadron (12)
• 3 x Y-wing Squadron (30)
= 75 Points

Its flexible with flight controllers and Toryn Far the Y-wings basically become 6 hull tie fighters, Shara and tycho do there thing you get consistent damage against ships and squadrons its just flexible and fairly cheep, but having flight controllers I really think is a must for this group.

If you're looking for a bombing group I like this group.

• Keyan Farlander (20)
• Gold Squadron (12)
• Norra Wexley (17)
• Ten Numb (19)
• Jan Ors (19)
• Wedge Antilles (19)
• Dutch Vander (16)
• Green Squadron (12)
= 134 Points

Keyan is the only reble pilot that can compete with Morna and consistently get 3+ damage. You have to attack an unshilded hullzone to get his reroll but Norra makes that easier to pull off, add BBC and you will likely never roll less than 3 and will even be able to fish for 4 sometimes.

If your just looking for a light screen you got the classic shara tycho but I also like this group.

• 2 x X-wing Squadron (26)
• Lieutenant Blount (14)
• 3 x Z-95 Headhunter Squadron (21)
= 61 Points

The X-wings protect the Zs and act as swarm nodes. Add in jamming feild on a flotilla and this group will stick around for a bit and because of the red dice you can sometimes outpace the other players damage especially with a jamming field. This also gives you 3 deplyments, and 6 bodies worth of stuff you opponent has to chew though.

If you're looking for a group of rouges this is the setup I use in my Sato list that has next to no squadron value, and it works well.

• Dash Rendar (24)
• Han Solo (26)
• 2 x Lancer Pursuit Craft (30)
• Rogue Squadron (14)
• Tycho Celchu (16)
= 110 Points

It really depends on what you need/want from your squadron group, but if you are asking about a Rebel dynamic duo well there are these options

• Tycho Celchu (16)
• Shara Bey (17)
= 33 Points

• Wedge Antilles (19)
• Dutch Vander (16)
= 35 Points

• Keyan Farlander (20)
• Norra Wexley (17)
= 37 Points

That is all I can think of that have good synergy together as far as pairs there are others that go well in the right build like Biggs and Herra etc. Agian it all really comes down to what you want.

My current setup is Nora, Gold, Green, 3 A's, 6 Y's.  It's beefy, will tie up the enemy squadrons for a while, can mostly absorb flack, and can pound ships if left to their own devices.

I run this with an MC80Cmd, a Pelta, and a transport, with Dodonna.  I see this as the Rebel version of the Imp 2-ship, the Reb 3-ship, if you will.

Out of six games my worst score is a 7-3, I believe, tabled my opponent 3 of those six games.

Han, Lando, Dash, Corran, Ketsu, YT2400.

133 points of rogues to go along side 4x ET TRC90s. Cracken to keep the ships obscured.

That's nice (I've not tried to incorporate Lando yet).

When I ran straight-ish rogues I ran Hera, Tycho, Shara, Ketsu, Corran, and Jan.  They were a great, tanky, fun combo of squadrons no unlike yours.

Gonna try Hera, Han, Corran, Ketsu, Wedge, Dutch all rogue ball for my next max squads list

• Norra Wexley (17)
• 2 x YT-1300 (26)
• Jan Ors (19)
• 4 x B-wing Squadron (56)
• YT-2400 (16)
= 134 Points

A bit slow but mad bomber power, decent anti-squadron,  Jan Ors both providing intel and keeping the escorts alive forever, and at exactly the limit for 400 pt game.

That's fine for you Park Place folk but what should us Baltic Avenue types do 😝?

I just got lucky on eBay with a purchase of 4. Other than that, yeah, I feel you. That’s why it’s taken me almost two years to get them.

I am very tempted to try to run a big z95 list. It’d be swingy, but when things go well, those squads punch well above their weight.
