Mission Debriefing vs. Ginkapo

So after a low score affair against B2W, @Ginkapo was my next opponent. Ya, the Gink that is one of the best Players from the Land of the Queen, recent #1 of nationals after Swiss, with a 5 activation Raddus Bomber fleet. I slowly begin to realize 4 Activations and a overloaded Vic might be a terrible idea.

I, as the crazy person to bid a full 10 points in EU, chose first and his Precision Strike. With my 5 Bombers (technically 6 but I forgot one Tie B), and both of my combat ship being brawlers, I figured that could work.

Deployment

LUt43OPh.png

With my forgotten Tie B, we both had euqal deployments. I decided to slow roll and then jump into the fray after I saw his drop. He bailed Turn 3, good choice. We both played as the smirky tactians that we are, and both moved forward. I liked Warlords position, seemed like he could have a chance to flank his main force.

Start of Turn 2

v0DJXTJh.png

More slow rolling. His AF advanced into my fray. Great, no escape from Bail. I activated Demo, potshot with 2 reds at long range, moved forward to just have front arc. Seems like a visit from Vader seems eminent. His last activation was the CR90, sending in a Y-Wing and Ion shots, leaving my demo with no Front shields in close range to Bail's AF. Oh boy...

Start of Turn 3

q31VyTph.png

Admonition dropped in from Hyperspace, double arcing the Vic, and both sidearcs in close to my combat ships. Alert all stations! The AF went, and between the Bombers and her shots, she left Demo with one Hull, sitting there like a Germany - Brasil in 2014, 11' (ready to score). Unlike Brasil, I seemed to face a worse fate than a 7-1. I activated Doomedmolisher, side arc into Admo's front. 4 Blanks. I tried to ram his GR next to the AF, but failed to do so. Front arc into Bright Hope, 2 ACCs, Hit/Crit Blank. Rerolls are good in this game I heard. Well Demo dead, and his Admo possible oneshoting my Vic. To my suprise, he activated the trailing GR next. I had to go all in. Warlord send 4 Bombers into Admo, stripping it of 2 shields in the front, the rest was redirected. Then:

Q0PI03Cm.png

Note, that was without rerolls, or H9 Warlord BS. 9 Damage reduced to 7 left her on one Hull. Engage ramming speed, Jerry!

With his greatest thread gone, I gained some breathing room. But Warlord was still in a bad spot. My Gozers danced around the flag ship, and his ships closed in. I could kill Jan with combined flak and Zertik, and I could tie some of his Y-Wings.

Start of T4

tMIlthYh.png

BH was reduced to 1 HP, so I figured time for some farming. Warlord sent 4 Bombers and Dengar into the the fron of BH, netting me tokens and a tokenless GR (2x Crew Panic), but killing her was hard as I needed hit crits, and I figured farming 15 points per hit is more preferable than killing her.  His squads were mostly engaged or Bombers, so no real issus. Warlord landed on the asteroid field. Comm's Noise. OUCH!

Gink gave me a CF, then Precision Striked me to speed 0. Warlord hat 6 Hull and 2 shields, double arced by the AF. Only upside was, I had a nav token. The AF activated, Charm'ed Warlord (CF, Nav) but his dice were cold. Only 2 damage between both shots, but he got another token.

Start of T5

u5CO5Xth.png

General Draven got Post-Rouge One depression and parked in fron of Warlord. I took the offer. With a Squadron token, Jerry send one bomber into the read of BH. Blank. F*ck.. Thankfully, just in range of Bomber Command. After an inspiring speech about Lord Vader and his "movitation techniques", the pilot managed to send in another pair of ordonance, rerolling into a hit. (Rerolls op confirmed). The front shot of Warlord killed Draven's GR, but just enough damage was rolled so I couldn't flip another damage card. Well, won't complain. Jerry tokiodrifted on the station, and repaired the Comm's Noise. With his main forces out of reach, (Gallant Haven and Jamming Field is a ***** to chew through!), I killed one YT and 2 Wangs, losing Zertik and a TieB in return.

Start of T6

LnhXFmTh.png

I snacked two more Ywings, and engaged his remaining Squadrons. My BCC, due to my idiocracy (or the hot weather?) got rammed to death after providing him another token, and the game was over.

7-4 (107 MoV to me) 304 (6 Tokens)  vs 197 (4 tokens).

Great game Gink. Warlord oneshooting Admo was BS, and without it, this would have been a strong victory to you. I felt that you outpositioned me.

I scored another low victory, enough to keep me away from @Tokra .

Let's see if I can score a Flechette Torpedo score in game 3.

Round 2 versus @Beginner2Winner is at 8pm irish time 9pm German time and you can see it here:

Definitely a fun game! From my perspective: the start was better than in my last game. In terms of that I have lost the CR90 at the end of the game and not in the beginning 🙂 Very tactical start and movement form both sides. While I liked the hard turn of my fleet in round 2, I should have not chased Salvation with Admo. I should have left Salvation to MC80 and used Admo (together with CR90) to kill one further ship.

Anyways, I am happy about another good game and more learnings. Especially how to use IntelOffice is now burned into my brain... After doing it the whole game wrong - despite the friendly helpings from @Irishmadcat, which is by the way a great opponent!

@CommanderDave vs @The Jabbawookie ends in a 6-5 my way, 135-129.

He chose first and my fighter ambush; I placed my transports in the middle and Raddus on my right, far away from his developing squad ball (which indicated where the Kuat would be.) He did choose to have the Kuat near his fighters, and Pryced round 2.  Deciding the Kuat was instant death, I jumped in Defiance in position to kill the Raider and run from the ISD.  I dropped in a little carelessly though, and the Raider boxed Defiance in. Luckily the Raider got killed with a squadron command.  The rest of the game was me running and the squad fight, which he won handily with flak support and first player.

Dave was a great opponent who made smart decisions and put up a good fight, even in a particularly difficult matchup.

Broba v @LTD ends 400/81 for a 319 10-1 for me.

A great game where I got to drop yavaris in the fleet ambush zone and run away with 7 hammerheads chasing me down. Both flotillas went down as they attempted to block the hammerheads from getting in range, but ultimately with slaved Turrets preventing LTD from being able to flak my bombers just ate hammerhead after hammerhead. Still, with so many ships the table took all 6 turns, and relay was the unquestioned lynchpin that allowed me to keep squads in the action while I kept my ships out as long as possible.

End of the game Jaina's was 2 hull no shields down to her last evade, the flagship was 3 hull no shields bow or starboard, and yavaris was 3 hull no shields starboard or aft. So my fleet is a smoking wreck, and one more good clean shot on any of my ships could have sealed the deal and swung the game into a much lower scoring affair.

LTD is a great opponent who I always enjoy sparring with, and I appreciate him being flexible on our scheduling.

@Zamalekite vs RealVeers

Initiative: RealVeers

Objective: Prescision Strike

Score: 126 (66 + 4 Tokens) vs 520 ( 400 + 8 Tokens), 1-10 MoV 396

I manage to kill the Raddus drop with another single Activiation Warlord BS, then continued to table Zam. It was a tough game for him, and maybe if he could have saved his liberty, the score would be much closer.

GG man, hope to play you again under better circumstances!

Debriefing tomorrow or the weekend.

@itzSteve vs CyborgNinja

Initiative: itzSteve

Objective: Fighter Ambush

Score: 166 vs 341 (236 + 7 tokens); 3-8 Win for CyborgNinja with 175 MOV

Thanks to @itzSteve for a fun, engaging game. Here are some key shots of the game:

fSrT9E6.png

I deployed my squads to take out the comms net flotilla and limit Raddus's drop options. But as the round ended, I realized they needed to spread out in the middle to prevent Mon Karren from dropping right on top of my assault frigate. Flotilla survives on one hull, and my own flotillas are sweating bullets...

PpCNNa4.png

...because all of a sudden, a ton of firepower is ready to annihilate them. Jaina's Light double-arc murders the BCC flotilla, then speed 4's to the board's edge. Toryn Farr's transport just escapes, but the Mon Karren's long range Intel Officer shot on the assault frigate's rear nearly cripples it, and it sets up a good chance of killing it the following round. Meanwhile, Profundity effortlessly lines up a killing run on my corvettes, and the scatterless 1-hull flotilla survives another round...

YkwKehJ.png

Start of round 3, Mon Karren goes first and is 1 hull away from swinging the game widely in itzSteve's favor. But the assault frigate just hangs on by 1 hull, gets to double arc the Liberty and command enough squads for the Liberty to die by the end of the round.

Rest of the game -- Profundity murders the HIE90B, then ram-murders the assault frigate. Raddus's CR90 curves back into the fight, to help mulch squads (sooo much flak damage between the flotilla and MC75), but 1 lucky Scurrg hit and a last round Dutch shot manage to kill it.

Mission Debriefing vs. @Zamalekite

Round 3 has me up against Zam, with his Raddus LMC Rouges. I know Zam is a skilled squadron player, combined with a flexible Raddus spotter group and a terryfing LMC Intel Officer HIE StarCruiser, my boys were facing another tough challenge from the UK.

This time I brought my 6th Bomber, and it did pay. I had the bid and choose his Precision Strike again, seeing I had 6 Bombers vs. his 4.

Deployment wise I had 10 deployment vs his 7. My plan was to have the Fighter wing in the middle, support by the Gozer Flak bubble and have the Combat ships in a entrapment formation on the wings, hammer and anviling the squad ball with Demo (first game he was useful against his Unique ball.

Deployment and Turn 1

d5IuUD3h.jpg

We did the usual dance. His ships all turned to the right towards Warlord, away from Demo, but with Speed 3 I was sure he'd catch up. End of the Turn, I could splash a loney YT2400 bait, which I did.

Start of T2

VXn3kAKh.png

He deployed his Liberty on the edge of blue range. I had several options, try to get Jerry out of the arc (foolish attempt) or send two bombers into QS, who was trailing behind, hoping to get rid of the Scatter so demo can prey in. I chose the first. Warlord sent 4 Fighters (Dengar, one Bomber and Zertik on the YT, another Bomber into the front of the Lib), killing the YT and 1 shield damage to the front, adding another 3 to the Lib. I then moved behind  the Italy debris, as there was no way to escape. The Squad fight began, as both Flotillas on both sides flew in. Then the Lib went, IOing my Brace, 5 damage and HIE. 5 is an amount you don't want to throw your brace away, so I took the HIE crit, redirected one and took 2 hull. He then moved into my double arc (first of 2 mistakes imo, 1 straight you have stayed in my Fron arc in my opinion. Demo went, but could not finish the lone YT that tied my ball. His CR90 tried to block my escape route with Warlord, but wasn't able to and had to bypass to the right. of the Lib. In the Squad phase I pushed all bombers into Warlords range, ready to send 5 into the Liberty, trying to pull of the Death of Liberty. His rouges continued to weaken Dengar.

Start of T3

bv5N7hrh.png

Showdown. Warlord went, 5 Bombers into the Liberty. 3 Hits and a Hit/Crit (you should have discarded the Redirect here, Zam, so Projector Missaligned wasn't a heavy error). saw the Liberty shieldless and without a Redirect. The last Bomber was a hit/crit, scoring Proj. Missaligned. He chose the 2 Shields on his left (we were debating afterwards that he could have used the rear, but as the Red. was gone, it would have made no difference imo). Last bomber went in, I succumbed to greed / panic and rerolled a hit into a blank. Liberty on 7 hull with 2 braces...

Solid bombing run still. Side arc with Ex racks was 3 damage with a crit, front arc was 2 damage short of oneshotting the Liberty, but luck favored me as I drew the Structural damage. Liberty gone, 3 Tokens on me. Warlord jerryed into the squad fight, ready to intercept the Quantum Toryn. In the Squad fight we traded of Dengar for Luke, and Demo unleashed a good double tap on his squads. Raddus and Gold managed to score 2 tokens from Warlord (Power Failure and Structural), which left him mostly shieldless, with halved ENG and a structural to flip. This wasn't over!

Start of T4

YFybrSUh.png

With Warlord in serious danger, I had to act. He had another Squad command, sending in bombers for chip damage and Maulter to tie up Zam's remaining Squads. I managed to kill the HWK and the Lancer, Ruthlessing Rouge and engaging Gold and Hera with Mauler, as Quantum Storm was obliterated by Warlords front arc (7 Damage and an Acc before H9), scoring another Token. Warlord then disengaged, and with 2 ENGs commands I was sure to repair enough to make it. Then, it happened. Demo was just in range for Hera, who went after Warlord. Kallues armed the shock rockets, and the Flechette finally payed off, toggeling Hera, who was Adar'ed. Dayum. Demo then turn north to try to intercept the CR90. Raddus tried to disengage, but had to turn towards the station. So 4 bombers later, he limped away shieldless and on 3 hull, double arced by the BCC Gozer.

Start of T5

XR48kOvh.png

It was just then I realized I can table him, it was getting pretty late and both our concentration was at a low. BCC Gozer went, sending in two bombers, flipping Crew Panic twice. The Gozer put the CR90 on 1 Hull (I was farming at this point, sorry, Zam!), but landed in Double arc of the CR90. 2 Flips of a structural and 2 tokens later saw me a dead Gozer. Demo went and was just in long range. ACC Hit, well another token. Mauler finished off Hera, and one Tie Bomber ended the game on a HIT/Crit with another token and the Table for me. (A rough estimate had me at 8 vs 3 Tokens, so should be close to 400 MoV.

Tough game that was probably decided by the Liberty move into double arc. I think it would have been much closer, but hard to tell, not sure if you could have had escaped my bomber ball with the Lib. But after the Liberty kill it was just a downhill battle that escalated in my favor. I was lucky now in two games that my fleet survived a melee against a superior squadball, but with Zam's more Unique squads attempt, Demo had more damage output than in my game vs @Ginkapo where he got obliterated.

Thank you for the game, Zam. I am glad we just missplayed the Redirect and your blundern with Projector Missaligned wasn't game deciding after all. It was a late game (10pm for me, 9 for Zam after a trip back from vacation), and I am more than happy to play you under better conditions.

Now, with 24 points and 607 MoV, I am bound for the cut. Let's see how I will fare against the US boys, which have strong fleets and higher bids.

Second final entry will most likely be decided between @Tokra and @Darth Veggie, meaning an all german cut from EU is possible.

B2W took first player with his 1pt bid, and my fleet ambush.

Tabled him for 10-1 to me, 400 - 0 MOV

This was the worst game I ever played. Mission choice, deployment, movement and decision about waht ship to move first - everything wrong... Plus I made tons of newbie-mistakes which I should not do anymore (despite my forum name).

Anyways, very good game in terms of learnings and thanks to @Ginkapo, which was a great opponent. My goal for this tourney, to be somehow in the middle of the rankings, seems not reachable anymore. But it was still a fun experience.

This means we had 3 times 10-1 in round 3 so far? Not bad.
