Jyn, Leia, and Troopers

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hey all,

I'm back in my Legion league next month, and will have a store championship that month as well, so I've been toying with more lists. I used Jyn as a solo commander before, but I'd rather have her more as an "operative" commander, if that makes sense.

798 Total

Leia Organa (100)
-Improvised Orders

Jyn Erso (135)
-Strict Orders
-A-180 Rifle Config

Rebel Troopers (81)
-Z6
-Rebel Officer

Rebel Troopers (62) (x2)
-Z6

Rebel Troopers (80)
-Z6
-2-1B Medical Droid

Fleet Troopers (86)
-Scatter Gun
-Rebel Officer

Rebel Pathfinders (104)
-Pao
-Duck and Cover
-A-300 Short Range Config

Rebel Commandos (Strike Team) (44) (x2)
-DH-447 Sniper

Commands:

Coordinated Bombardment; Ambush

No Time for Sorrows; Trust Goes Both Ways

Somebody Has to Save Our Skins; Complete the Mission

Standing O

My plan was to deploy Jyn and the Pathfinders together near an objective. Jyn's Trust Goes Both Ways card would either target the Pathfinders, or Leia, for some teamwork, free dodges or aims, etc.

Leia and the troopers would follow up behind them. The Sniper Teams I wanted to keep near to the Med Droid squad, so I could replace my snipers if they went down from opposing snipers. With Leia, 2 Officers, and Pao, I have a lot of Inspire, which I hope to counter the suppression that the Empire can dish out.

Biggest weakness is against Armor (and me not being very good at the game :P )

What bothered me most was I had Duck and Cover on Jyn, but that put the list at 801 points. So I had to drop it, and replace with Strict Orders, which gave me a 2-point bid.

I’m just not a fan of the Pathfinders, but maybe I’m just bad at using them.

I would replace them with an AT-RT or Wookiees personally.

Hope your games go well!

Yeah, I have had very bad luck with them, mostly due to Danger Sense being useless because of bad dice rolls haha

I would love to add an AT-RT or two! That's one of my other lists I'm working on, since I played Leia+Triple AT-RT list for a long time.

Yea the few times I’ve seen Pathfinders in a game they get outnumbered and taken out pretty quick. I think Infiltrate is kinda a trap...

I do wonder what Jyn can contribute to a list without Pathfinders though! I’m sure she still has some good uses but I haven’t tried yet.

The times I've played them, the number of suitable places to infiltrate without getting overwhelmed are pretty slim. I still like them, even without the Infiltrate bomb. At worse, they can deploy outside of my own zone to just give them an extra leg up on moving into position without necessarily using the first round to double move. I'm still exploring how they can be used to maximum effect.

you may do better with a regular unit of Commandos.  You can almost fit 2 in for the price of 1 unit of Pathfinders. If you can get Recon Intel they can Scout 3 to almost any place you would infiltrate anyway.  I've had Danger Sense work well, but usually it is after the unit has become completely useless (Pao and one other guy survive the first onslaught and then can't be killed) if that's worth it to you or they can hold down an objective til the end of the game, great, keep using them, otherwise I'd switch to something else.

More Rebel troopers aren't bad either.

I want Jyn to be a better option, but she never performs either.  You can keep her in the back and have Leia toss her Dodge, and use her gun but she's really a little too expensive for that type of play.  She doesn't hit hard enough for anyone to take her seriously.  Her long range gun is weak, her short range will get her killed, her melee is really weak for it's cost (IRG are way more potent in all phases of the game) Courage 3 is awesome but sometimes having more unit leaders I think would be more cost effective.

Not a bad idea, I could change it as such: -1 Pathfinders; +2 Rebel Troopers; +1 Rebel Commandos. Had to add a few things to get the points back up to 799.

Recommend Intel on Jyn is a waste of points , with infiltrate you don't want to be close enough to your opponent that you need recon to get closer, if you aren't that close then infiltrate will let you set up wherever you want without needing reco n to get there.

if you out Jun or even a unit that far forward to your main forces is say you are placing her wrong. Similarly with pathfinders, t he latter you want to place them in a position where your opponent cannot ignore them and will need to waste time dealing with them while you position the rest of the forces, or you want to position to claim a centre objective turn one and use danger sense to keep you alive. Every shot they make on the unit is a movement lost trying to get to an objective, the game is often about action economy and starting 2 or 3 moves closer and  forcing an opponent to use 3 or 4 actions to deal with them, then the cost is paid for, sit then at range 2 of your enemy you get maybe one shot in but ultimately you get blasted it of the water by sheer unit attacks on you. So sit them in place in cover at range 4 and let your opponent come to you. You just sit, or retreat (using dauntless) drawing them off position and building up suppression. Meanwhile bring in your own forces where you want. r

Jyn wants positioned more discretely (perhaps on or near one of your close objectives.)

If you do not place Jyn first, which can be strategic, or if you have multiple Infiltrate units, then Recon Intel can be a huge help. Your opponent may have placed a unit in such a way that it’s difficult to get Jyn into necessary cover or into that little nook you want her. Recon Intel often will let you get there (either on Jyn, Pathfinders, or both).

It will also let you get into Range 3 of a unit that’s already been placed so you can shoot at them turn 1, though I don’t recommend putting yourself out in the open.

I can understand, placing them in cover after placing at a position where You couldnt. I'd just put Jyn in cover further back, if there is no cover then there really isn't enough terrain on the table. I'd never set Jyn that close to the opponent that you can shoot turn one.

To me Jyn is an objective grabber, as are the pathfinders , although the latter makes an excellent tarpit as well. Anytime I even get tempted to use her as all out offense leads to me getting her killed quickly. Her courage also makes her an excellent rally point. I'm not picking her to go up front and hit the targets though, 2 or 3 solid hits are usually enough to get her wiped off the table.
