Afflicted

Recommended Posts

Hello there,

In my game, The pcs encountered a bunch of zombies. Zombies have the attribute "unholy" which is: "if the attack succeed, the character becomes Afflicted in the last ring he used"

Afflicted is " the GM can switch any dice to the"opp+conflict" side before the dice are kept (therefore, before the explosive successes) + character's vigilance is 1 + the extraordinary effect that depends on the ring + two weeks from the affliction he must succeed a Fitness roll or becomes tainted in the ring, receiving the corresponding adversity"

The only way to remove it is the Cleasing spirit ritual which is not that easy to perform

4 drawbacks for something pretty common after all , easy to catch, not that easy to overcome. What do you think ? Did such affliction ever occured in your games ?

Dumping Void at char gen is never a good idea.

Or have a monk with the rank 1 kiho that removes the afflicted condition instantly, on demand. You can go to the festering put of fu leng with that kiho.

Unless your GM follows my houserules and nerfed that setting broking kiho like they should.

4 drawbacks for something that is fluffwise one of major threats in the setting, that can be removed with Rank 1 ritual which has TN 3 Theology test to perform. Plenty of Schools (at least Crane, Dragon and Lion shugenja schools, Kaito Shrine Keepers) learn the Ritual at character creation. I personally feel the ritual should be less sure to succeed, especially if GM does not prohibit repeated uses.

It depends on the situation. If the players were somewhere where they could realistically be expected to face a horde of zombies, then they should also probably have someone competent in cleansing rituals on speed-dial and a sizeable jar of jade petal tea in their packs. (see....basically any depiction of crab forces near the wall, really).

Zombies aren't really a major martial threat to armed and armoured samurai. Managing the infectious nature of their taint is their main threat.
