GR-75 in upcoming conversion kit

Recommended Posts

Do you speculate it will have a weapon hard point? Not that it's necessary. I thought it was neat how it could find other ways to be useful, or even deal damage by ramming or using slicer tools. But lore seems to indicate that some equipped laser cannons. I remember even the old toy had lasers in the back. I know the toy was probably a bit of a departure from canon, but I guess it's something to think about.

How the **** do you put an image in a post here?

I left instructions in this thread when sharing images from Flickr.

The short of it, after pasting the URL for sharing it, you have to delete everything on either side of the "https______.jpg".

I hope it doesn't have a hard point. That's what really set that ship apart in my eyes. It really was interesting to fly to make your opponent say, "I hate that thing - and it's not even shooting me!!!"

I'd rather it not have some of the inane abilities it did in 1.0 that lead to that situation. A hard point or a simple 2 red single turret primary would be worlds better.

Part of me is in agreement with Parakitor. The other part of me is wondering, why shouldn't it have a weapon like anyone else? Especially if canon ( as far as I can tell ) suggests that it can. I'm torn. What if it just had a rear arc that could be used with an upgrade? Hmmm, I dunno.

I think the best solution would be to make them both upgrades for the ship. Give it a hard point or some similar slot so That way if you want to run the slicer build or gun runner variant. What I don’t want to see is some weird hybrid of slicer gunner, that just sounds nasty.

Maybe do it with titles? I can’t see you fielding more than 1 in a game, although without points costs who knows, Maybe 3 Gr-75s is the new local meta.

The rebel version should be unarmed.

The scum version, if there is one, needs some dirty tricks.

Resistance? Meh, they’ll probably get some hyperdrive booster that says “move in a straight line until board edge. Every ship you overlap with along the way is instantly destroyed. When you reach the board edge, you are destroyed as well”

Wookiepedia lists all the transports at Hoth as being equipped with laser cannons. Can anyone confirm if this is legit?

At the very least, all of them had access to the same weapon  hard points ( regardless of faction ), at least according to the Ultimate Star Wars source...

Wookipedia's cited source for the armament is also Ultimate Star Wars which is among the Canon reference materials...

Looks like Wookiepedia should have written that out differently... If the standard version of the GR-75 is unarmed, and only variants were armed, it would make a better and more clear description if the variants are indicated later... and that the main entry notes unarmed.

Something like that should be handled as a "config" or "title" type card in X-Wing, should FFG choose to explore the options.

I'm actually quite good with the idea of the GR-75 remaining unarmed though. It was actually pretty effective in 1.0 without weapons as a strong support ship. If priced correctly, it should be fine.

Exactly.

Just slapping an attack on it would be lazy design.  And adding those as upgrades will just lead to lazy listbuilding.

Epic ESPECIALLY is where FFG should be exploring interesting options and non-dogfighting mechanics.  First of all, Epic is a place that can support it.  Secondly, Epic should be something more than upscaled Standard, which is what people complained about in 1.0 when folks wouldn't table a Huge ship.

1. Huge ships will be legal for casual 200pt games.

2. The GR-75 is armed now in the current Canon.

3. Bright Hope... The Reinforce mechanic has changed, but that ship was bull.

Imo, the only problem with Bright Hope was that it was so good that it made it difficult to choose other titles. Even then, I found some cool builds that accentuated the benefits of other titles, so it wasn't too strong.

The double reinforce was tough to work around, but with good maneuvering you could get a giant and deny the Reinforce benefit, so I didn't find it oppressive.

Toryn Farr was a bigger threat to my strategy than Bright Hope ever was.

That doesn't mean they require guns.

Well, then I hope it is an expensive option to encourage mechanics that are more interesting than shooting all the time.

It's bad enough that Standard requires every shuttle to be an attack boat as well. . .

How else were we supposed to play the final mission that came with it?

THAT made so little sense. I think it was optimistic to believe everybody would run out and buy that ship... but I guess it did come with an extra little X-Wing and a bunch of pilots...

Considered buying a second, had a great price on one, but then it'd put me in an awkward spot for converting it to 2.0. I'm glad I held off.

No no no, passing the edge of the board is called "fleeing the battlefield." That's totally what Holdo was doing. 😜

It did make very little sense, and the only reason for three truthfully was because I found two at a Barnes and Noble about two weeks after release for $30 a piece. Considering I have very little self restraint I left with both, even though I already had one in the hanger.

I'm hoping for a weapon hard-point so that it can be fielded without weapons. There are at least a few ways to make a weaponless ship useful. Going with a hard-point sounds like a good way to emphasize that these things are not about shooting, but still allow them to do it should the player using this ship not want to lean into jamming or whatever their new tricks are going to be. I liked that the Gozanti and C-ROC both used hard-points as the only way to give them weapons back in 1st ed, and the GR-75 seems like a good ship to copy this design idea.

I've generally used them as the targets of a rebel raid. Last time, an Imperial convoy was being escorted by a small fleet (eg 2 Raiders, 2 Gozantis, assorted TIEs) vs a mixed group of Rebels and Pirates (2 CR90s, 2 C-ROCs, etc).

I bought a 3rd because it came in a second hand case along with a random pile of ships and made the postage of the case feel less significant...and I have very little self-restraint either! £6 for a Transport!?

This is a really good point. My favorite Epic squad ever involved the Gozanti without any weapons equipped, leaving opponents wondering what I was up to. Truth is, it did enough support through token passing and carrying my Alpha Squadron Pilots into battle that it really didn't need any weapons. Ignore the Gozanti and it continues to strip locks and give my ships focus and lock tokens; attack my Gozanti and you ignore the damage dealers in my squad. Man, that was a thing of beauty. I hope I can run something similar in Second Edition.

It was indeed great. To keep things on topic though, I did ram it to death with a GR75... your fighters annihilated me, but the GR75 was great.

It was a good match. Two unarmed huge ships with a WHOLE BUNCH of fighters zipping around them. Fun times!

Either way the GR-75 goes in Second Edition, it's going to be good. I think if it has any weapon, it will most definitely be optional.

Simplest solution is to have the combat retrofit take away cargo slots (or what ever they translate to in 2.0) to give hardpoint slots.  Make it a configuration and maybe make the increased hull and shields the baseline for the ship.

I also would like (while I’m dreaming) ordnance tubes having a single charge that recovers each turn and text that says “when instructed to spend a charge on an equipped missile or torpedo, you may spend this card’s charge instead.

Now if combat refit is a config and ordnance tunes stays a mod, I’m having awful/amazing daydreams of a GR-75 cruising around with proton torpedoes.
