Favorite Book?

Recommended Posts

I am curious what is everyone's favorite Star Wars book/series?  I liked the movies but when my favorite hard sci-fi author wrote a series I was drawn in...

The Thrawn Trilogy, without question. Hand of Thrawn was great, too, and I really loved the X-Wing novels. ESPECIALLY Alston's. He may have written some of the flat-out FUNNIEST books I've ever read (Starfighters of Adumar particularly stands out).

From the old EU, I would say the Thrawn trilogy. Not just for the story, but for what it did for Star Wars when it came out. It was the first books that extended the story, we could relive Star Wars.... but I was so young when I read it, I don’t know if it aged well.

From the new canon, Lost Stars was really great! But I also liked Bloodline a lot. Claudia Gray is currently my favorite Star Wars author and I can’t wait to finally start reading Master & Apprentice (**** preorder problems...).

The Stackpole/Allston books are good. I remember liking Truce at Bakura. Having recently re-read Shadows of the Empire...most of my nostalgia there comes from the video game.

Thrawn trilogy, like everyone else said. Haven't bothered with new canon. Too hard to try and let go of the EU I put time and money into before Disney Lucasfilm went "lol **** you none of that counts anymore". Yes, I'm bitter about that.

Of course you'd say these. You're in at least 2 of them!

I’m glad you got that reference. That is indeed where I got my user name from but, unfortunately, I didn’t realize I was misspelling it for a while (it was supposed to be Bollux). By the time I realized my misstake, I had already posted a fair amount of content on the Painting/mods forum. 😕

I just took another run through those and they are still solid reads.

I'd say they're my favorites from the old EU as well and would echo most of the other comments here for the reasons why.

I still have a soft spot for "Splinter of The Mind's Eye."

I know where you're coming from there. I was just finishing up The Fate of The Jedi and had been really enjoying Ben and Vestara when The Mouse nuked all of it to give me that pile of dren Force Awakens. Have read none of the new canon novels set after Return of The Jedi.

Did read the Rebels tie-in novel "A New Dawn" and the Clone Wars tie-in "Dark Disciple." I enjoyed them both. Been pretty deep into the new canon comics. Picked up the new Zahn Thrawn books but haven't made time for them.

Honestly, this was a mercy killing. Legacy of the Force SERIOUSLY FUBARed the old EU, with WTF plot points that made no frelling sense (like how was Daala not in a MENTAL INSTITUTION?).

Daley passed way to soon.   I've been collecting all of his other works slowly over the years from used book stores.

That's sad, I didn't know that. Turns out that I lived very close to where he was living when he passed. If he had pets, it's quite possible my wife was his veterinarian (he lived in Arnold, MD and my wife worked at Arnold veterinary hospital at that time).

Eh... as a fellow lifetime EU fan, it had pretty much run its course, and the last entries before the wipe had been so bad that it needed to be put out of its misery. Everything after New Jedi Oder was abysmal, and combined with how divisive NJO itself was*... yeah, things weren't great. Although it had started to turn around with Mercy Kill and Sword of the Jedi sounded promising, you certainly couldn't ask them to make multi-billion dollar movies with that kind of baggage. It was a good time to call it.

* Spoken as an NJO fan, before I get accused of lumping it in with the trash that was Dark NestLegacy and Fate.
