Hero Armies?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Could Hero Armies start to become competitive? This is my rebel list that will exist in a couple months. We'll have to see what the graffiti does. I think this list does a good job of getting a lot of good double attacks, it has good anti suppression, and has a lot of health to chew through. If at some point a "kill point" objective comes out, aka get points for killing units, similar to bounty, then I think that this list could do very well.

Title: Oh Jesus here we go again

Commanders: - Leia Organa (90) + Strict Orders (5) + Emergency Stims (8) = 103

Luke Skywalker (160) + Jedi Mind Trick (5) + Emergency Stims (8) = 173

Operatives:

Chewbacca (110) + Duck and Cover (8) + Tenacity (4) + Emergency Stims (8) = 130

 Sabine Wren (125) + Emergency Stims (8) + Personal Combat Shield (10) + The Darksaber (25) = 168 Corps:

 3x Fleet Troopers (44) + Scatter Gun Trooper (23) + Emergency Stims (8) = 225

Total: 799/800

Commands:

Son of Skywalker (1) - Common Cause (1)

Brains and Brawn (2) - No Time for Sorrows (2)  (or sabines)

Somebody Has to Save Our Skins (3) - Return of the Jedi (3)

Standing Orders (4)

This list could work you know. It has a low amount of activations but it’s units hit hard. The psychological impact of seeing someone bring this would be “oh ****, he’s gonna murder me”

I have also a similar thought, would love to use 4 heroes in rebel army.

My idea was Han, Leia, Sabine, Chewie and son rebel troopers to get to 9 activations. Perhaps I should take out on Corp unit to make room for more upgrades on my units though.

I think you need to maximise your command cards to get big attacks, double attacks, double activations etc when you use heroes in that way. Using Leia aggressively for example with her awesome gun.

yes this will be a thing

Most tables will have some capacity to hide a single figure even if they can't hide a unit.  Most Heroes have some sort of defense that is better than a units and the upgrades make the single figure more effective, where as a unit loses its efficiency when figures die.

The problem I have is the Rebel heroes still die pretty easily.  Even Luke, who has the best defense of a Rebel character (sabine does now) can be shot down in one turn. Leia is horrible and a stiff wind will usually take her out and Chewbacca has wounds but almost zero defense (I save 1/9 wounds with Chewie)

An Imperial version of this would actually be better I think

Boba - Duck & Cover, maybe Stims or Hunter

Bossk - Duck & Cover, maybe Stims or Hunter

Palpatine - Force Reflexes and Anger

Royal Guards - soak up wounds for your 3 heavy hitters

3 stormies with dlt

If you want to go all out damage, then I would suggest a melee hero heavy team with Luke (Stims and Force push) Jyn (Stims and tenacity), Sabine (Stims, Shield, Dark-saber, Tenacity) Chewy (Tenacity, Stims) supported by rebs with Z6 x3.  Your melee units can get into melee fairly easily especially if they are supported by Chewie.  He'll probably die, so Tenacity may not be worth it for him.

It won't be competitive if that is what you are looking for, but it would be a ton of fun to play!

I think the biggest issue with running 3 or more heroes after lack of activations, is the fact you will lose out on some of their great command cards, I’m sure these are factored somewhat in their costs.

I think it might work and be fun as is!

I’d try to trim the upgrades and then swap out the 3 Fleets for 3 Z-6 Trooper Units and 2 Sniper Teams.

That would get the list to 9 activations?

Would that fit points wise? Might have to swap out Luke for Han... or Jyn?

yeah, because Chewie is just a meat shield, I wouldn't take any of his, he'll be dead by turn 2.  I think you'd be better off taking multiple Wookiee Warriors units honestly, but 3 characters is the Rebel "type" right now anyway.

7 activations is horrible.  Min activations for a decent list is more like 9...and in a list like that you better have some scary threats abound.

No bid is moderate disappointment.

If you lose two characters your totally hamstrung orders-wise.

"fortressing" with this sort of list is a joke.  Against a competetive list with 11ish activations, at the very least, whatever you push the center with is going to get shot by 3-4 shooty units.  Rebels cannot handle that sort of punishment.

If terrain isnt heavy you lose before you hit the table.

If you are just looking to try it out for fun...more power 2 ya, I bet you will find most of this true.

with practice anything can be good imo.  I hardly practiced with my 7 activation Vader/Palp list and took out a 13 activation reb team at Adepticon.  Its all about those objectives.

Personal anecdotes dont convince me.

Did you WIN adepticon? Or just happen to beat some schlub with multiple activations?

I was using it as an example to counter your opinion that 7 activations is horrible, which I assume, come form your own personal anecdotes right?  From what I gathered there weren't any schlubs ad Adepticon.  Everyone knew the game very well and played their armies well.   7 activations is horrible, * when used incorrectly *.  It is not going to win any major tournaments but it is not horrible.

You assume wrong.  Its general concensus from good players.

Im sure everyone at Adepticon was an 'expert player'.  😂

Never said everyone one at Adepticon was an expert, I said they knew the game and their army.  They were competent, not schlubs.  Is your definition of a non-schlub an expert?  That's weird that you only have 2 categories for players.  Multiple good players have done well with 7 activations.  Again I did say YOU WILL NOT WIN ANY MAJOR TOURNAMENTS, but that is a far cry from horrible.  Which was my original point.  I guess you are welcome to continue to put words in my mouth to make your point seem more valid though.  It is a common online practice for disagreements these days.

Why do I now feel the urge to win a major event with 7 activations...

I’ve won 2 small ones and went 3-1 at Adepticon with 8. Surely I wouldn’t miss one that much...

He is over reacting because he doesn't know, but wants to sound like he knows. Sabine can grab center objective turn 1. They can then just huddle in the corner and win on objectives. Please do! I was hoping this type of list would bring about a newish meta. I hate that people feel the NEED to bring snipers. As someone who has never played with them, I see how important they are. I have not beat a 2+ sniper list, but have won every game I have played that didn't include snipers. Sooooo I guess they are OP? maybe I am just bad :D

7 activations minimum. thats what I have heard. Also, because of sabines symbol, recovering with Estims will let everyone live a lot longer. I dont think you realize how hard it will be to kill everyone.

Yeah I've won a small one with 8.  I went 2-2 at Adepticon with 7.  I also want to win a major tourny with low activations.  Sniper spam imo is overrated.

This topic had me inspired (no pun intended) to make my own rebel hero list. The best I came up with is this:

Commanders:
- Han Solo (120) + Improvised Orders (10) + Duck and Cover (8) + Emergency Stims (8) = 146
- Luke Skywalker (160) + Force Push (10) + Force Reflexes (15) + Emergency Stims (8) = 193
Operatives:
- Sabine Wren (125) + Personal Combat Shield (10) + Electro Grappling Line (5) + The Darksaber (25) = 165
- Chewbacca (110) = 110
Corps:
- Rebel Troopers (40) + 2-1B Medical Droid (18) = 58
- 2x Rebel Troopers (40) = 80
Special Forces:
- Rebel Commandos Strike Team (16) + DH-447 Sniper (28) = 44

Total: 796/800
Commands:

1: Son of Skywalker, Sorry About the Mess
2: My Ally is the Force, Symbol of Rebellion
3: Change of Plans, Legacy of Mandalore
4: Standing Orders

I do believe runing triple threats (Luke/Sabine/Han) might be better than dropping one in favor of Leia. Sure, she hands out tokens, but this list has Han-Chewie teamwork, Luke's 2pip and Sabine's 3pip. Also, with Luke being such a huge threat as he is, he allows more freedom for Sabine and Han to work their magic. As for the cards, I decided againt using Chewie's as they don't provide any immediate benefit in this list. Then I chose to get 2 from each other character to minimize the effect of one of them dying too quickly. 1 pip from Luke gives obvious dmg burst, Han's generates a bucket of tokens and allows for an important priority push. Lukes 2pip is again about tokens (possibly to himself and Han, thus to Chewie), Sabine's helps with inevitable suppression's and gives her an important refresh. 3 pips are for emergency (Han's) and for Sabine's big turn (possibly when one of the other characters is dead).

I've also made a version with Jyn, to better play for objectives, but it has obviously less synergies with Chewie and is less killy.

Commanders:
- Luke Skywalker (160) + Force Push (10) + Force Reflexes (15) + Emergency Stims (8) = 193
- Jyn Erso (130) + Duck and Cover (8) + Emergency Stims (8) + A-180 Pistol Config (0) = 146
Operatives:
- Chewbacca (110) = 110
- Sabine Wren (125) + Personal Combat Shield (10) + Electro Grappling Line (5) + The Darksaber (25) = 165
Corps:
- Rebel Troopers (40) + 2-1B Medical Droid (18) = 58
- 2x Rebel Troopers (40) = 80
Special Forces:
- Rebel Commandos Strike Team (16) + DH-447 Sniper (28) = 44

Total: 796/800

Commands:
1: Son of Skywalker, Explosions!
2: Trust Goes Both Ways, My Ally is the Force
3: Complete the Mission, Legacy of Mandalore
4: Standing Orders

I came up with a similar list. Main difference is no upgrades on Luke, and my 3 units of rebel troopers have z6, and 2 of them have med droids.

I also put hunter on han (great with teamwork) and tenacity on chewy.

Naked Luke huh?  Does he still perform OK?  I think stims and FP are a must, but that is awesome if you are able to make it work.
