Yeah, that's what I meant for "faction identity."  Allows them to put multiple models of the same basic weapon in the game.  I do find that somewhat surprising, considering how frequently they've rushed to fill in GCW slots with CW weapons; the Z-6, AT-RT, and flame thrower are all lifted from TCW.

Well isn't that more so the Rebels using relics of the Clone Wars since they aren't a full blown military like the Empire or Republic? The Empire meanwhile can make and purchase the newest models much easier than the Rebellion can.

I'm kind of disappointed, that there seems to be no option for having shoretroopers lead stormtrooper squads, as in the lore.

I suspect they are saving that for a new Specialists box.

I can FINALLY start buying stuff for this game!

Models look great, they go well with all the other Rogue One stuff I want. SOLD.

Ooh someone else who's crazy enough to make a whole army out of nothing but expansions...

Clone Wars stuff, mostly likely, probably from August til the end of the year.

Nooooo! We need ONE Hoth rebel commander for crying out loud! Nondescript officer (Reikan) or not (Han/Luke/Leia in a coat), please let them give us SOMETHING!

So i gotta buy 3 boxes of shoretroopers to get 3 mortars and then throw the Shoretroopers in a box like the Scouts...yay

Or you could reject the meta treadmill and choose happiness.

Also... no they're corps not special, you have to buy SIX!!!! :)

Yeah, somebody on the design team has a real fancy for Rogue One.

With Shoretroopers being quite possibly the most egregious example of "Quick, invent a new Stormtrooper, we need to sell more action figures!" In the history of Star Wars (which is saying something. I'm sure there's a worse example from a comic somewhere, but it'll be a deep cut) this release actually eases my desire to get back into the game quite a bit.

There isn't even any real justification for making them different from Stormtroopers. They were in mixed units with no discernible specialization or purpose. What IS the purpose of a shoretrooper? To fight... on the beach... better? Are they the designated Imperial volleyball team?

And, of course, Disney/FFG deciding that an armored truck was a perfectly acceptable alternative to a real armored combat vehicle because it was also in the movie.

I sure hope we see something GCW from literally ANY source other than R1 at some point. I'd love some Imperial Regulars.

EDIT: Yes, "literally any source" is hyperbolic. I know. I should have said "any source that makes sense" since I maintain that dewbacks and tauntauns are a stretch. Dewbacks are lethargic pack animals for Force's sake.

That's why I mentioned the flamethrower, which is used by Snowtroopers.  Its same one as we see used during the Second Battle of Geonosis.

You mean like the landspeeder, Bossk, Sabine, the downed AT-ST, Rebel Veterans, Tauntauns, or Dewbacks?   Yeah, shame we'll never see anything like those.

Oh, boy, a whole series of oddly specific things that don't make a lot of sense outside of the very specific circumstances we saw them in the films, but will now be commonplace because that's the only design space permitted!

And a wrecked version of a model they already sell? Wow! Hold me back!

What does the critical rule do? Haven't we seen that one before somewhere else?

We saw it on the Rebel Veterans. It is speculated that it provides surge to critical for a limited amount.

Yes, how dare they make things that are uh, represented within the films?

That certainly can apply to some of those, but hardly all of them.  The landspeeder and AT-ST especially can be used nearly anywhere, and the Rebel veterans are paint job dependent.  However, that's not what you asked for.  You complained that they were fixated on Rogue One, and asked for anything else.  They are doing that.  Now you're complaining that those are too limited.  Considering the scope of GCW combat is very limited in the current canon, it's not surprising that they are using what they have been.  I'd love to see more EU stuff introduced in the game, but am not holding my breath for it.

Indeed, it's too bad they're only allowed to make what Disney tells them they are allowed to make based entirely on a marketing diagram somewhere.

As we all know, Star Wars movies are the extent of Star Wars. The fandom basically ends there.

No. You need to bring a shoretrooper unit for each mortar you bring, just like with the Hoth Troopers and their MG.

I mean, yeah, copyright and licensing largely sucks for many of us who want to play with toys solely based on our wildly varying imaginations and preferences, but them's the breaks.

Also @Tvayumat I personally see the Shoretroopers as marines. They are geared for amphibious warfare, which is mostly beach terrain in Scariff's case.

Though I do agree on the tank. Would kill for the Saber Tank. Make me want to buy in Imperials immediately.

I guess I wouldn't find it as jarring if what you say were supported by the filmmakers at any point, but it's as if they couldn't be bothered to even give them a throwaway line to explain that much, nor could they be bothered to insert a single action scene that showed shoretroopers doing anything but running alongside stormtroopers (who seemed to be doing just as good a job).

Regarding the tank... yep, pretty much.

The old fans are left shrugging going "Uh... guys, we already had tanks, why are you making that thing that is clearly a truck a tank?"

It's great that FFG is releasing models regularly and all, but this is precisely why I wish they spent more time on their in-house IPs and less time chasing Disney cash.

Yeah, it makes sense. No, I don't have to like it. YMMV.

Speak for yourself. Fan from before the Special editions here, and I'm literally only now going to play this game because of Rogue One units. I don't care for or want some obscure random tank or unit from Legends.

This is the TX-130 Saber tank. It actually appears in a number of Video game media such as Star Wars Battlefront 2 (The first one), Star Wars the Clone Wars game, and Empire at War.

Even has a Lego set https://shop.lego.com/en-US/product/Republic-Fighter-Tank-75182

You'll also find a version of it in Imperial Assault, so it's not like FFG is either unaware that it exists or restricted from using it.
