I would argue that they fit within the Galactic Civil War time frame. The formation of the Alliance to Restore the Republic is the real start of it, not necessarily the Battle of Scarif.

Yoda+Wookies would be nice. I'll do my TCW armies with a Kashyyyk theme. 

Might be that when they remake the SKU's for hard plastic sprue they will re-release some units as multifaction e.g. Wookies and AT-RT if they can squeeze a clone rider onto the sprue. Hopefully there will be a way to get the cards for those who bought the rebel-only wookies.

It was said during the Q&A that there were not really plan for cross faction versions of units, that units had been put into the faction that made "the most sense" for them, with the possible exception of the AT-RT. Republic Wookies are still possible or course, but the Republic version might not be the same as the Rebel version in armament, since the Wookies in the Battle of Kashyyyk are shown to primarily be armed with bowcasters and other rifle style weapons.

I guess they'll have to be "counts as" then. I'm sure the GAR will receive some variety of mêlée unit.

That's not how I understood the comment.

My impression was that all the units in a single expansion pack units would usually be assigned to a single faction, but it was likely we'd see releases of distinct expansion packs that featured variations of the same mini (like AT-RTs) for different factions, when those multiple factions had used them iconically. We were not going to see lots of 'stolen equipment releases.

Even the first point seemed like it was open to exception as Hondo was specifically called out. Also at another point C-3PO and R-2 were mentioned and personally I think it'd be pretty frustrating to have to buy them three times for each era.

They will stay around. It's the only current way to get Luke, Vader, and the original art command cards.

X-Wing still had the Rebel/Empire core set after the Resistance/First Order set came out. 

Stormtroopers and Darth Vader are still more iconic to the brand when stacked on a shelf so I doubt they'd lose that.

Why would they do that?  Like seriously, what would be the rationale?  There are tons of reasons not to do so, and not a single good reason to do so.

Some do, many don't.  Has FFG done anything similar?  X-Wing provides examples of them not doing so, but I don't know enough about their other product lines to know if they've done it before.
