What colors for Rebel Pathfinders?

Recommended Posts

I'm currently painting my two units of Rebel Pathfinders but the colors are actually pretty difficult to nail down. This guy's vest for example. I think it's just a really dirty blue but it could also be some kind of dark green.....Anyone have some insight into this issue? Close-up pictures of the movie costume perhaps?

I went with a dark greyish-blue like you say. You can see it more easily in some photos like this

https://www.google.com/search?q=scarif+rebels&client=ms-android-huawei&prmd=isnv&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj2j86VsI7hAhXHhVQKHQaqBaYQ_AUoAXoECAwQAQ#imgrc=ylGrLTvJWkUB8M

Sorry for the link, it won't let me post the file from my phone. But the Pathfinders seem to follow the same color palette. Good luck!

Honestly, you cannot go wrong with a color selection on these guys. While I usually try to keep a single color palette for each unit, I kind of threw that idea out the window with my first set and tried to match the outfit for the best example I could find online. They were not a perfect match (due to facial hair differences) but it worked.

IIRC: Sgt Melshi, Pvt Calfor, Corporal Maddel, & Corporal Casrich

This definitely looks like a dirty blueish gray, to me.

I'm painting my two squads with one squad being more sea-green, with green being the more dominant color, and the other squad being a more blue dominant sea-green/teal.  I also just decided to paint their undershirts the dominant color, and the jackets are saddle-brown/red leather.

Currently having this problem with Jyn, as I detect a whole variety of colors in her clothing and vest across numerous movie-stills or toy products/illustrations.

I do try to get my stuff reasonably accurate to how they appeared on film, but go with a color that feels exciting to you! I wanted my Pathfinders to reflect the nature and environment of Scarif more than their strict fabric colors, so I painted them as such.

For mine I used a base coat of zandri dust then washed with agrax earhshade. I then high lighted with DAK Sand ( a flames of ear paint...for future reference all the paints are GW paints unless I put FOW). I finished the pants with a highlight of Crusader Sand (FOW). For the coats I based with Firefly (FOW) then washed with Agra then highlight with Firefly again followed by edge highlights of Elysian Green. For skin tones the usual aside from Pao who was mechanics grey, wash with nuln oil, highlight with sandstone followed by edge with debris grey.

Yeah, painting these guys right is tricky. It's not like you can just say " Han Solo? Black and white. Leia? White. Fleet Troopers? Light blue, black. white and grey." With pathfinders it's like "uh....so I think that vest is a blue? Blueish green? Blue with dirt? But some have tan and others brown and some have green... Pant's? Kind of...brownish? Khaki? Belt....a different brown....or maybe the same color....but this picture makes it look different..."

They're just all over the place. I was very tempted to paint them all in a uniformed scheme but then I realized the bearded guy would look super out of place. So maybe I'll just paint each one a bit different instead.

I used Army Painter 'Skeleton bone' for the spray base coat (and left this visible for the light brown garments you see.
I used GW 'Gorthor Brown' for the darker browns base. The really dark browns are this colour mixed with black.
All browns are washed with Agrax Earthshade then highlighted using the original colours and mixes of Ushtabi Bone.
Sgt Melshi's blue colour was a custom mix.
I used 'Fire Dragon Bright' for the shoulder orange panelling on all.

In my experience (only use Vallejo paints) the German Grey + a mix of Dark Prussian Blue, in like a 2:1 ratio, does best of giving a grey, but maybe it's blue appearance.

That would be a good combo.  I used black and the dark Prussian blue mix for Vader and it turned out nicely.

What colour did you use for Sgt. Melshi's trousers?
