Unit Leader and declaring target

Recommended Posts

Just want to make sure - if the leader does not have line of sight to any of the minis in the unit but other minis in your unit have line of sight, can you declare it a target if they are within range of your unit leader?

Yes. The target will have cover though.

Correct, cover (and range) is still determined by unit leader, so if he can't see the unit you want to shoot at but other models in his unit can, that unit will gain cover since they are more than 50% behind cover.

Actually, because they are completely obscured, it is automatic heavy cover.

But, however, if the unit leader-or any member of the squad- does not have LOS to any model in the target unit, that model may not add its dice to the attack pool. rrg page 41

its not automatic heavy cover, its automatic cover and its determine by what terrain is separating the unit. so if its just a bunch of trees blocking line of sight and its light cover (as designated at the start) then it will be light cover. obscurity just determines if there a need to do the cover type check. so once its determine if at least 1/2 the unit or more is obscured from unit leader (which wouldn't be able to add to the attack if he can't see the unit) then you draw a line on the battlefield to all minis in that unit if it hits anything designated as heavy yeah they will have heavy but it can still be light cover base off what is separating the unit leader and the opposing unit.

From page 8, last sentence of Cover Type:

“Terrain that completely blocks
line of sight always provides heavy cover”

So if a mini is completely blocked, heavy cover is provided regardless of what you agreed on before the game.

Ok.. but it only completely blocks LOS from the unit commander, not from say 3/5 of the minis in the unit. Does it still get heavy cover even though 3/5 have LOS? Cover is always determined from the unit leader?

So Player 1 attacks Player 2, traces a line with the range ruler from the center of his unit leader to the closest mini in player 2's unit, determines that LOS is blocked from the unit leader. So now heavy cover is automatically applied just because the unit leader can't see them? However, 3/5 minis in player 1's attacking unit CAN see player 2's minis?

And because only 3 have LOS, only 3 minis are adding their die to the attack pool?

What if all of the above was true, but only 3 minis from player 1's unit can see 2 minis from player 2s unit. That means the max that can be killed from player 2's is two minis?

Yes, cover is always determined solely by what the unit leader can see and his location.

Yes, only minis that can see at least one mini from the targetted unit can add dice to the pool.

Yes, if only 2 minis from the targetted unit can be seen by any of the attacking unit's minis, then only those 2 can die.
