“Named” Lightsaber Crystal

Recommended Posts

So I’m starting a campaign and one of the players (Like myself) is an avid KotOR II fan and asked if he could have a “Named” Crystal. Now I’m honestly not sure how to approach that, but if you were to do it, what would you do/require?

That depends upon what you mean by a “named” crystal. Are you referring to a type of crystal other than the generic Ilum crystal, such as a Mephite, Krayt Dragon Pearl, or Dantari crystal, or are you talking about something like the specific Solari crystal once used by Duron Qel Droma?

My interpretation is that if you're a GM running a FAD Jedi/lightsaber-focused campaign, acquiring a lightsaber crystal can very easily be a big centerpiece adventure. Unless your group has specifically decided to brush over that aspect of Jedi lore in your gaming (which is fine if you want to focus on other stuff, of course), then each player's lightsaber crystal ought to be rather unique just from the intrinsic value of it built into the adventure you run for them.

For example, in the SWTOR-era campaign I ran, I had the players (a group of padawans) journey to Ilum, having been tasked with a ritual rite of passage of seeking out "their" crystal in communion with the Force, without assistance from their masters. While it necessitated a little group-splitting as I focused on each individual player's mystical-spirit-quest juju, I built challenges around their Moralities and motivations, and used their performance and actions to narrate the crystal they eventually found before asking each in turn what color the crystal before them was. Combining that all together, I then gave them "their" crystal with one of the statlines out of the core FAD book (which was all we had at the time, I think). I think one guy had a Krayt Dragon Pearl or something, but it wasn't a Krayt Dragon Pearl, it was their crystal, I just fed them the stats for a Krayt Dragon Pearl.

It is generally referred to as the “Named” Crystal as it adopts the PCs name. But it evolves with you to give you different stats based on you Morality.

@BCGaius nailed it. What you're referring to is covered by the standard lightsaber crystals under these rules. Each type of crystal in these books have unique stats, and can be further modified by the PC in question, making it unique to that PC. For example, my character Korath has a fully modified Mephite crystal in his saber (along with a Kimber Stone through the use of a modified Cyclic Crystal Array capable of holding three crystals), with only one of the mod slots failing. His personal Mephite crystal does : +11 Damage, Crit Rating 1. His Kimber Stone is also fully modded, with one attempt failing, giving it: +11 Damage, Stun Damage, Concussive +1, Disorient +1. With the Superior Hilt and Extended Hilt, and Dual-phase  attachments, his lightsaber does 13 points of damage with each crystal with Vicious 3, and an automatic +1 Advantage, and he still has an open slot in his CCA.
