Adventure Idea Commune

Recommended Posts

Hey folks! Share you ideas for adventures, plot hooks, and other story goodies for those with a bit of writer's block or looking for something to spice up and an existing arc.

  • One of you PCs sees one of their enemies talking with a mysterious figure before both vanish. The figure has the PC's exact face, tattoos, and piercings.
  • A tech savvy PC has been getting illegibly corrupted messages. One of the messages is clear enough to refer to a niche show/artist/book the PC enjoyed long ago. It also asks for help.
  • A strange package arrives at a PC's doorstep. It is biometrically locked to them, however, it refers to them by an incorrect name. The contents are physical surveillance photos of a person no one recognizes, but at a location that seems familiar.
  • One of the PCs wins a Diesel give-away they didn't enter. That's when one of their contacts calls in their large favor involving the media star that will be presenting them the prize at the ceremony.

A sleezy-looking "Mr. Smith" offers the PC(s) a simple security job; watching a warehouse/laboratory overnight. If asked, he makes some excuse for needing skilled freelancers on short notice, and offers them an incredible wage for their services.

During their shift, one or more heavily equipped operatives attempt to infiltrate the warehouse/laboratory (a combat encounter). Regardless of the outcome, "Mr. Smith" tries to weasel out paying the amount promised (A social encounter).

  • Serial killer murdered Roxie Henn-Tessey owner of Roxie HT's Cabaret
  • Miles Swanson, lawyer on retainer for the liberty society, killed via a gauss pistol on the midway while on the town, humanity first may have been involved
  • 8 person staff of the Mons Wolff Observatory murdered with a monofilament knife, military taking an interest
  • Sam Wilkins, CEO of OmniCorp, shot twice with a fletchett pistol in his box at Campbell Greens race track, likely by a hired killer

Here is an outline of an initial plot to introduce the players to the universe and try to tap into a whole bunch of mechanics.  RANDY, IAN, RIA, ZACH: STOP READING!  My GMing skills have atrophied of recent, and I'd appreciate opinions on how well this fits the universe and whether it is too stupid/convoluted.

A fixer contacts the players for a job, and shows them a recorded message from a woman who asks them to rescue her husband and children from the arcology where they live.  Ideally, it should look like a kidnapping, and the pay is significantly higher if it initially reads that way.  The family has been assigned a clone who is officially employed by Jinteki (or some subsidiary), who it is important to fool or deal with in some way.

The players must navigate this low security facility, grab the family, and spirit them away using whatever path they deem best (hacking systems, charming residents and guards, perhaps fighting some security drones).

Extra meat if needed:  Unfortunately, the 16 year old son is...troubled.  He's snuck out and has taken up with some bad sorts who are willing to fight to keep him in their gang.  He needs to be found and convinced to leave with his family.

What is really going on here is that the mother is a scientist working on a mcguffan (a growth medium for organic material that is both stable and recyclable under cosmic radiation and a wide range of temperatures, good for space colonization).  This work is being done in a small satellite lab accessed by shuttle from the Castle.  She knows her employers have agreed to sell the research to Jinteki as soon as it is completed for a good deal of money, of which she will see none.  The small company she works for has been moved into the arcology, where Jinteki can keep an eye on everyone, and where their power over the family members can serve as leverage if needed.  Because the family is monitored, and is expected to remain in the arcology, and the communication is constantly monitored, she needs them moved out as her plan is enacted.  If it looks like a kidnapping, she believes her family will be held blameless if caught.  Also, she believes a kidnapping will make the corp less suspicious of her activities in the lab.

Her plans also go awry, and finding her and deciding what to do with her and the research is the plot of part II.

Players will learn about corporate culture, the hacking system, and social and combat checks.  There is plenty for them to research and figure out.  In part two will be working in zero gravity after they ride up the beanstalk.  There will be some ethical dilemmas as they are confronted with how badly they can/should treat the family clone servant, and a certain terrible thing the Mother did in the lab.

Is this terrible?  Should I scrap it for something more straight forward?

@TheSapient That is a solid starting adventure. You might even add in another megacorp trying to get the family from the players (by force or by negotiation) in an attempt to gain leverage over the mother to steal her work.

Thanks for the feedback.

In part II, I envision the prospective buyer corporation of the stolen research demanding its delivery, but reports are that the scientist burned everything in the lab, including herself.  The PC's travel up the Stalk and investigate the ruined lab.  Talking to locals, looking at records, etc reveals she had requested her personal clone assistant to join her to help with final research details. Apparently the clone left the lab before the scientist killed herself.  Of course, they find the scientist killed the clone (who was of similar features and build), grafted the clone barcode to herself, and went into hiding as the clone.

Jintiki isn't stupid.  The Yakuza are just waiting for the scientist to reappear at the Root.  How do the PC's feel about this clone killing thief?  They get a call at the Root, demanding her return. If they agree, it is the other corporation's hit squad that is waiting.  Gotta have a climatic battle.

If they've been assigned a clone to help with the family (or her specifically), it's probably a Desai.

Thanks!  I see 2 clones being involved with this story.  One owned by Jinteki that helps with the house work but may go between a few houses, and a full time lab assistant owned by the corp that the scientist kills.

I'm a bit new at both creating campaigns in Genesys and cyberpunk world's, but I got the idea to look at Netrunner Agendas and make some campaigns around them. This was one that came to mind, but it seems a bit long winded and could use some help.

Background, NBN at times allows it's workers to take risks, and create passion projects. Often these are done with their reputation at risk, and the cheaper and quicker it can be done, the better.  One of the things that are in high competition between the different studio subsidies is classic movie props. Often times, the rights to what a studio controls, comes down to what they have possession of. The studio that has the original Alien from the Aliens franchise, has sole rights to that. The studio that has the original  Elder Wand from Harry Potter, are the ones who create new works in that live action series.

One day while browsing the archives of Haarpsichord Studios, the famous actress Miranda Rhapsody passes a pair of Red Slippers, and instantly knows what her next blockbuster will be: A musical sensie of 'The Wizzard of Oz'. Quietly the studio gets a script together, signs up actors and directors, and getting ready to make a big announcement at NBN headquarters about their next hit. Shortly before the scheduled meeting, the slippers go missing, and a director based in New Angeles, known for only making straight to pad 'Sunshine Junction' threedees, has a big announcement scheduled himself.

Plot:The director has hired the Tri-Maf to steal the slippers and fabricate ledgers showing that his studio has had it in their possession the entire time. A rep of Rhapsody hires the player's group to steal them back, and find evidence of the theft/forging. Since this is an internal NBN matter, Rhapsody and the studio can't be connected to this dirty work. And with the hired tri-maf protectimg the goods, the rep can't handle this with just his connections in the Corp.
