Marie build

Recommended Posts

just built a Marie deck. any suggestions would be helpful. keep in mind kinda new to building my own decks.  I have two core sets, the entire Dunwich Legacy cards with the exception of Return to Dunwich Legacy, the Forgotten Ages core set and the first two mythos packs, the core set to the Circle Undone, and Return to the night of the Zealot.  Here is the deck i built:

2 Shriveling

2 Alyssa Graham

2 Ward of Protection

2 Arcane Iniatiate

2 Cthonian Stone

2 Forbidden Knowledge

2 Prophecy

2 Eldritch Inspiration

2 Deny Existance

2 Hypnotic Gaze

1 Unexpected Courage

2 Arcane Studies

2 Knife

2 Ritual Candles

2 Scrying

1 Perception

keep in mind this deck is meant to be played with other investigator decks

I think that looks like a perfectly serviceable deck. The main thing that jumps out at me is that you haven't used any of your 5 seeker/survivor splash slots, you have only mystic and neutral cards. Are there really no seeker or survivor cards that you want? I'd also try to fit Holy Rosary in there somewhere for the +1 willpower boost to make Shrivelling more consistent.

It would also help to know which other investigator(s) you will be playing alongside, if you know. This looks like a well-rounded deck, so I'm assuming that the other investigators are also generalists. If they are more specialised then you could consider specialising more towards either dealing with enemies or investigating.

I would prefer Emergency cache over Forbidden Knowledge here.  3 resources now is probably better than 4 resources in a few turns and no sanity loss.  I also would like to see some cards that help her pump her intellect.  Mag glass is a good choice.

Also you don't have a lot of options to use her special ability.  I think it basically allows you to play or trigger either Shriveling or Scrying and thats it (although triggering Scrying is really good).  That can be pretty limiting.  Extra actions are great and you want to leverage those as much as possible.

I think if you just replaced Marie with Akachi or Agnes and left everything else the same, it would be a stronger deck as is.

This was actually my very first thought, but I wondered if Forbidden Knowledge could help with getting rid of Alyssa or the Arcane Initiate once they have doom on them. Without Smoking Pipe or Moonlight Ritual, allies with doom on may occasionally be tricky to remove.

With Marie’s combat score of 1, I don’t think Knife will be much use. You could trade these for Magnifying Glasses as suggested above, Fire Axes would allow you to get a bigger combat boost to more reliably hit, or Mists of R’lyeh provides an alternative way of dealing with enemies and leverages Marie’s special ability.

Hi, given that you have put in 2 fire axes and got rid of the Forbidden Knowledge I would be tempted to put in 2 emergency cache to get some resources and swap out the knives. Personally I feel like the knives are a bit of a waste of card slots in your deck...

the emergency caches might then be a good swap out for something like Sacrife when you get xp and get feel for your resources levels through the first scenario or two....

The stuff that jumps out to me as improvable:

Knife feels bad on a 1 combat character, perhaps magnifying glass or Fingerprint kit instead?

Emergency cache outclasses forbidden knowledge by miles and miles, unless you're Agnes.

With just Shriveling you dont need Eldritch Inspiration at all, especially once you drop Forbidden Knowledge.

A bit too many hand slots?

Since you boost intellect with Alyssa I recommend Fingerprint kit and/or Magnifying glasses as well, especially in multiplayer.

Skills will take your far, and cheaply too, can you fit in more Perceptions, Guts, Deductions? The free test security and bonus draw can really smooth out a deck.

Is lucky taken? If not go and get it! Eldritch inspiration looks like the natural thing to drop for it. Alternatively Live & Learn is fun on Mystics.
