A collective term for Obligation, Duty, and Morality

Recommended Posts

Recognizing the OP has since found his/her answer, I still have a question to ask...

Does anyone believe the upcoming Clone Wars supplements will have a new track for Obligation, Duty, Morality and/or a new option?  Or we will just be expected to use the existing material from the core books?

I only ask because with descriptions for clone troops *and* Jedi (for instance), you'd actually need more than one core book for reference ... as I'm sure an ARC trooper has no need for a Morality mechanic and a Jedi padawan would have no need for, say, Obligation.

It seems the Dawn of Rebellion book assumes most players are using the AoR core.  But with the new Clone Wars books, I'm not sure...

No, you won't need new mechanics. Dawn of Rebellion, Rise of the Separatists, and Collapse of the Republic are cross compatible with all three lines; and, in fact, are designed specifically to use all three lines together.

So, in other words, you actually do need more than one core book ... in order to fill the needs of the various careers/specializations.

Sigh.  Got it.

You know, I love FFG’s work on these books, but I really, truly believe that years from now the company will definitely be taken to task for its complete and utter disorganization in creating these various supplements.  I mean, either you buy them all, you have to hunt online for some kind of assistance, or you just have to make a ton of it up as you go...

For many RPGs, that's really the only option. FFG generally gives you the other options, but you have to pay top dollar for them.

The alternative is to reprint them in each new era book, at the cost of other content. Or to create some kind of rules compendium, which would piss people who bought all the other books. Whatever they do, some people will get mad at them.

In that my very first "Bad facets of your character gets you XP" mechanic comes from HERO, I just usually use their term and call them Disadvantages (lazily shortened to disads). Even when it's not something disadvantageous to the character like duty.

Not necessarily, no. For example, Dawn of the Rebellion specifically provided  two skills which were not included in all three core books, but one in one of them each.  These are Knowledge(Warfare), which can be found in AoR but not in either EotE or F&D, and Lightsaber, which can be found in F&D but not AoR or EotE. So, no, you don't need all three core books to make use of it. Rather, the book is fully compatible with all three lines and provides access to skills and talents that aren't available to all three lines to the lines they're not otherwise accessible by.

That all sounds great, Tramp Graphics.  However my point is that, for the Duty/Obligation/Morality mechanic, you're going to need to take a look at all three core books since a clone trooper might require Duty, a Jedi would more than likely require Morality, and ... well, perhaps another career/specialization for the Clone Wars era (detailed in one of the two books?) would fall under Obligation.

You see what I mean?

That said, I guess there's hope these two books will take all of this into account and do exactly what you've outlined for those missing skills...  So, hey, who knows?  Maybe I should be optimistic.  *shrug*

You don't require any of those mechanics,  though. You can run a Jedi just fine with Duty, Obligation,  or no no extra stat at all.

@Stan Fresh is correct. You aren't required to use all three mechanics even in a mixed game. My point, however, is that, if you do want to use all three mechanics, but personally can't afford all three core books, just get one of them, and have two other players each get one of the others, so that the group as a whole has all three. I only have the F&D core book, but I'm still able to play in an EotE game, and in another mixed game.
