Alert All Commands! New article!

You know what, I would like to see how Raddus would work with this. That could be really interesting because you could use Raddus to put one of your ships away, someone else on your team could have Profundity, and you could drop on a third player's ship. This would allow each player to take a part of a drop squad, rather than 1 player risking all the biscuits, and because the tabling rules don't apply, you can just put a flotilla on the board if you want to have one player risk it if someone has to show up late for reasons (work, family, ect.) they can play the Raddus + Profunity nesting dolls.

Yay! Happy day.  Seams good, I will have to see if my local area has any intrest in a large tournament. I also like the reduction of squadrons to 1\4 and I personally think that might be a good change in even the normal game. Dont get me wrong I love squadron play but as is you can fit 8 ace squadrons in no problem, but at 1\4 it makes you take some generic squadrons if you want to fill out your squadron complement.

From the article...

Quote

Although the size of fleets is not unlimited, our largest games of Sector Fleet have featured an Imperial fleet of several Imperial-class Star Destroyers led by an Executor-class Star Dreadnought and accompanied by an escort of smaller ships and squadrons, all matched against a Rebel force of equal size!

….?meh?

I dunno, that seems like it'd take a ton of time to play.

From experience in Corellian Conflict 'all out assaults'...those frequently ended up all-day affairs.

I think that's why they developed these rules at several different point levels.

For some people, they WANT a huge 1200 point game that takes all day. Others may enjoy a simple 600 point game that allows for more but not so much that the game takes all day.

It's not the overall squadron counts that are the problem, really, so much as compounding complexity from multiple unique pilots.

I like the idea of the 'Grand Admiral' style play. At the higher levels that seems OK.

To really mind-bend, the following tweaks: the two opposing Grand Admirals lay out their mission cards, and they each select an opponents mission card as their mission, and each Fleet Commander lays out their own three cards for their Grand Admiral to choose for them - I figure at this level of engagement, each player would have their own agenda.

I reckon at three- a side, one GA and two Fleet Commanders each 450 to 600 points per Fleet is manageable. 4 x 300pts seems bitsy to me.

So, ignoring the fact that everyone (myself included) is very, very happy to see a new actual article (and a rule expansion at that). How does everyone feel about the article itself? It seems like they're expanding on something a lot of the community was asking for (bigger game size options) so that's good. It's not something I was interested in (cc mass battles always suck to organize) but I am seriously happy to see something and I'm glad it'll make a lot of people in the community happy.

I get to be the bad guy again, it's pretty meh to me. Don't get me wrong, as you've stated, I'm VERY HAPPY that there is SOMETHING for us Armada folks. This isn't anything new though... I like the 25% limit for squadrons...

Well, the new rules put all players on a standard size table and reduce the number of fighters vs CC all out assaults, so I'd expect games to go at least a bit faster.

From the Special Rules on page 3:

Quote

Effects that set aside friendly ships and squadrons can only set aside ships and squadrons of the controlling player’s fleet.

So you would need to have one player with Raddus, and a Profundity, and the Profundity ship. And because Raddus is a Commander and refers to a "friendly ship", you'd have to drop your Profundity at Distance 1 of one of your own ships.

Raddus could still be fun - less risky as you've got points on your team to fill the gaps in your list, but probably not great at higher-point games as one ship in the right place (assuming you can find a spot to deploy) isn't going to have as much impact.

So only Commanders with friendly affects your own ships, but I guess upgrade cards can affect team wide? EX: Home One, Leia (Officer), Toryn Far? Of course those are all unique so only one per team.

I know many of us oldfarts have been talking about the game increasing in points while squadrons stay relatively lower to keep the "fleet" aspect things more alive.

This is great news :P  I want to see tournaments going to 600 :D

Yes.

In addition to being unique, these upgrades are range restricted, so that's a limiting factor.

Maybe it is just me, but did anyone else get the feeling that new objectives are coming with the SSD?

“In the article they state “The objective system that gives players control over the conditions of their battle, adds a lot of nuance to Star Wars: Armada, and it’s one of the game's greatest strengths. As such, all standard objectives can be included in Sector Fleet games” this to me seems to imply some new objective?

It's only you, I think.
