Leaked Guardians of the Republic Article AKA "In Defense of Peace" (article title)

Translated using google translate from Polish:

Jedi at all costs do not want to bend under the pressure of droids-fighters, who use the Separatists en masse in battle. Knights defy them by sitting in the seats of their favorite Delta-7 Aethersprite. This fighter was designed specifically for the Jedi, so that no technical constraint on the machine would make the mind of the Knight less cluttered when his senses are clustered with the Force. On the other hand, Jedi-accompanying pilots from the army of clones are always ready to support their commanders skillfully using control devices of their return fighters V-19 Torrent. The theme of the clone war appears in the world of comic X-Wing clashes for the first time, and it is thanks to the Republic Watchtower package that you will be able to try the two above-mentioned fighters, so characteristic of this period. We have already mentioned this in last year's announcement, but we will remind you once again - this supplement is a great idea to start your adventure with X-Wing, although we assume that the old stalkers will not despise it. In the middle you will find 3 ships: 2 V-19 Torrent and Delta-7 Aethersprite, of course, not forgetting about the full set of extensions attached to the set. We assume, however, that before you start to develop yourself, you want to know who is at the controls this time. Easy - in the set there will be enough ships cards to create squadrons that will satisfy even the most demanding players. Here are the 5 Delta-7 Aethersprite cards and 9 V-19 Torrent cards at your disposal. Are you planning to create an invincible special squad of Jedi Knights? Or maybe you want to bring to life a strong team coming from an army of clones? Or maybe you dream of a mixed squadron consisting of members of both groups? Yes or no - we invite you to a joint analysis of pilots included in the latest appendix, Watchtower of the Republic!

The level of advancement in "ruling" by the Jedi Knights is often simply breathtaking. On the one hand, sometimes one can barely keep up with the speed of their movements when they act in unity with the Force, and on the other hand they can freeze for a long time in one place sensing the Force shifts somewhere far away in the Galaxy. Knowing the Jedi, it is not surprising that they use Force during Star Wars against Separatists. And just as the Separatists use calculating tokens to power their strength to somehow boost their cheap droids, the Republic's pilots, often like never before, draw their handfuls of power. It must be remembered that many pilots participating in the war are sensitive to the Force, but only in the ranks of the Republic they are so numerous. What's more - only the Republic uses the fighters, which in its construction take into account the existence and operation of the Force. It is, of course, the extremely sensitive Delta-7 Aethersprite, at the controls of which every Jedi can boldly use the Force. In practice, this translates into the ability to perform such actions that other pilots can only dream about. Jedi sitting in Delta-7 cockpits not only have quite a lot of available shares, they can also spend a Force token to perform a new violet dodge action. This is not the end! After a full maneuver, thanks to its tuned steering systems, Delta-7 can issue another Power token to perform acceleration actions or barrels.

Such a phenomenally equipped Delta-7 becomes a very effective fighter, even in the hands of young and inexperienced Jedi Knights. Imagine what destruction this machine is going to be, when a real professional controlling the controls with a precision that the universe has not seen before will be selected! So when the legendary Jedi masters, like Obi-Wan Kenobi, use Force with much greater skill than their less gifted companions, look forward to remarkable ideas on how you can use your Power Tokens well using your abilities. This ingenuity in the case of Obiego manifests itself in that after the rejection of a token of concentration by a friendly ship, Kenobi can spend a Force token, that this ship regained this focus token. Do not forget that a friendly ship can mean Kenobi himself. In the course of the clone war, part of the Jedi holds the rank of a general and strives to come to its wards in all possible ways. For example, at the beginning of the combat phase, they would cooperate with Moc Plo Koon, help a novice flying nearby, spending a Force token, and then handing one of their green tokens to an embarrassed pilot. The other kind of support that Plo can offer to friendly pilots is to free them from a pull-out token or interfering token. Plo takes orange tokens at each other so that the yellow-bones from friendly units can fly further - all of this is obviously possible thanks to the Power tokens they issue. Derived from the Iktotch race, Saesee Tiin does not focus on accumulating focus tokens or mothering amateurs. Tiin, using his unprecedented telepathic abilities, is able to predict the next move of the opponent's ship. When a friendly unit within range 0-2 reveals its maneuvering disc, Tiin can spend a Force token to change the maneuver chosen on the exposed disc, to another maneuver of the same speed and difficulty level. Extremely sensitive to the movement of the Tiin Power, he is able to suggest a change in the course that leads the unit to the perfect position to attack with surprise.

The Republic's guards are an addition that will definitely be associated with the Force. Power developments included in it, such as, for example, Perfect Dodge, new capabilities, or technical solutions embedded in Delta-7, give the Jedi a huge potential for using the Power tokens. The capacity associated with the Power is mass and you will have to decide on something. Well, unless we're dealing with the Master of the Order, Mace Windu. Windu, after making a full red maneuver, recovers the Force token, which means that he actually always has something up his sleeve. Only his poor machine is up to the risk of maneuvers and the engines are heated up to red ... The only drawback of this ability is a stress token that prevents you from taking action after a red maneuver. However, this time the Force comes to help him. To the amazement of the opponent, Windu can perform a surprising maneuver of Koiogran or Segnor's Loop and still spend Power to modify the result of the attack or defend. Piloting in his performance is a real masterpiece and he asks himself that the Windu machine is equipped with a Calibrated Laser Locating. When Windu is already in the right position and the opponent is in the middle of the Wind zone, the latter adds the focus to his roll during the base attack.

The Jedi Knights are great as commander squadrons, but there are too few of them to fight on behalf of the Republic themselves. Fortunately, there are many willing to fight Separatists. The pilots from the army of clones, perfectly reigning over their dedicated machines, V-19 Torrent, are very ready to attack. They are ready to attack. They are ready for virtually every sacrifice carrying support to such famous commanders as, for example, Obi-Wan Kenobi or Plo Koon.

Although the V-19 is devoid of shields, but the value of the hull 5 and the high maneuverability of these light ships, they do not have major problems to escape from the approaching attack, while diverting attention from the Jedi they have escorted. Do not be fooled by appearances, however. It is not about the fact that the V-19 would be an easy target, a kind of cannon fodder. In their own way, these ships can also be dangerous if you arm them with rocket launchers. Remember, however, that here the launch of the rocket is coupled with the previous, mandatory targeting of the defender. So you will have a difficult task combining two aspects: watching over the escorting Jedi and keeping the enemy in focus.

You must also know that all the V-19 pilots have the ability to connect the barrel with the red action, and it will not surprise anyone. Unless you look at Wykop. His ability is a slight inflection - after the barrel is made, he can perform a red target, which will probably allow him to shoot down the enemy unit at one time. Szajbus has a similar flair to smash the opponent at the first encounter, using the V-19 pilots, sought after by the pilots. Szajbus is boiling with anger in the face of the enemy, especially if the latter is in the middle of the Shaybusa zone. If Szajbus has just made a red maneuver or red action, he may assign a target token to that enemy.

If your pilot has a high initiative value, and thus activates at the beginning of the combat phase, you will certainly appreciate the fact that the V-19 help each other acquire tracking tokens. This is important in that locating is necessary to launch a rocket attack. A chosen duo is for example Szajbus and Nalot. Air raids can help Szajbus to activate his ability, if only Szajbus being nearby made a full maneuver with a speed of 3-4. Then the Air Raid enters with his skill, and by encouraging Szajbusa to fight allows him to perform the acceleration action, which in effect may cause the enemy to be in the middle of the Szajbusa zone and then Szajbus can calmly track him down. Another pilot with a similarly friendly disposition is the Ax. He also helps others in obtaining green tokens, making it easier to attack with rockets. His tactic is that he moves 1 green chip to the companion in the side area of the Ax, after the Topor has finished the defense or carried out the attack.

As you can see, you will have to deal with a large number of pilots with a low initiative, almost created for the escort of exquisite Jedi, or more talented pilots of the army of clones. There are, however, some exceptions that benefit from the presence of such great commanders in the squadron. It's about Luzak. His heart is filled with hope when one of the friendly units performs an attack in its front zone. The groomsman then receives a focus token. You will probably admit that there is potential in the nation, right? When creating a squadron, however, take care of the right number of ships properly armed with rocket launchers, because these great skills are not everything. Remember the clone pilots from the Blue Squadron, whose main mission is to support the Jedi pilots. For example, the Blue Squadron Protector may be the perfect culmination of the spacecraft. However, if you need to save a few squadron points, the Golden Squadron Squadron has a slightly lower initiative, and it does not cost that much. Either way, the Jedi from your squadrons have nothing to fear, and professionals will escort them in every battle.

Hard times of split and uncertainty have come. As never before, the Republic now needs real heroes. Pilots, which you will find from the latest Appendix of the Republic Watchtower, are able to fulfill their mission and save the Republic, so that the next generations could enjoy peace.

The premiere of the Galactic Republic squadron's Galactic Guard squadron package is scheduled for the first quarter of 2019 as one of the additions under the third wave of allowances. The sale on our site Rebel.pl has already started - welcome!

Wow its so long.

Imagine when we receive it, the power of the Star Wars thread will be on the website in English that we read. Such is the Knights!

Piloting in these performances will be a real masterpiece! :D

So... I'm guessing that the "Wind Zone" is the bullseye arc? And apparently when Mace shoots at someone in his bullseye arc his opponent gets to add a focus result to their roll.

Obi Wan Kenobi Ps 5 - when a friendly ship at range 0-2 spends a focus token you can use one force that ship gains a focus

Plo Koon Ps 5 at the start of engagement phase you can use one force and choose a friendly ship at range 0-2 to pass him one of your green tokens or take one orange token from that ship to yourself

Saesee Tinn Ps 4 when a friendly ship at range 0 - 2 reveals his dial you can spend one force to choose a New maneuver for that ship with the same speed and difficulty as the old one

Mace Windu Ps 4 when you fully execute a red maneuver you can recover one force

skill 4 torrent is "after you perform barrel roll you can do red target lock action" Name Kickback.

Skill 5 torrent "after you fully execute red maneuver or red action, if you have enemy ship in your bulseye arc gain lock on it" Name Oddball

Svoop, skill 3 torrent.  "small or medium ship (not sure enemy, your or any) fully executing speed 3 or 4 maneuver, if it ends at range 0-1 from you execute red boost"  and my 5% knowledge on Polish language fails on last 2 named Torrent pilots.

Reading the translation, I hope purple actions end being somewhat like “Whenever you spend a force token, you may also perform the purple action too”, with the usual stress and ‘once per round’ limits.

Otherwise, they are more a hindrance than a benefit.

Looks like purple actions are 'spend a force to' but not clear if they can be done in addition to regular action?

Since a force-sensitive pilot can 'spend a force to' perform any one additional action, they can do that anyway, so there are basically 3 options:

1) You cannot perform the purple action normally, but are forced to spend a force-token - so a weaker action
2) You can spend a force-token to do this action, even when you are otherwise prohibited (e.g. when stressed).
3) When you spend a force-token you may also perform this action for free.

Presently I think the "evade"-action is purple on the Delta-7.

Ad. 1) As you could just spend that force when defending to change a die to an evade if need so - this only make sense for giving you that evade for e.g. Juke, but since force-pilots (so far) do not have elite pilot talents, this seems a less likely option.

Ad.3) This would be very powerfull action-economy which easily could get out of hand, with extra actions in the engagement phase etc. But perhaps the Delta-7 is so fragile/expensive and Jedi's in the Republic Area are so amazing space wizards it works.

Imho this leaves option 2) which also would be very powerful, but not that different from Advanced sensors/Pattern Analyser and thus not too OP.

Luckily the rules around purple actions will be (I expect) in a RRG update. They can always change it if it’s too OP or underwhelming. Based on the way they wrote about Windu, it doesn’t seem as likely that you can do this while stressed, but certainly we don’t know yet...

Alright, here we go!
Compilation of what we got to know from the recent Polish article about the Guardians of the Republic Expansion Pack and the discussion following its release on our FB group. We've got the national distributor's spokesman there, so any explanations that are given there are more-or-less confirmed.

  1. Rules:
    • Let's begin with what we've got to know about the purple actions because it will sure come handy reading about the spoiled pilot cards. A purple action is a normal, activation phase action, coming with the additional tax of spending a Force Token (Icon force) to perform it. It is not a bonus, additional action. A bummer, I know but we ought to think about it this way - if it wasn't purple, it wouldn't be there at all, so it's better than nothing. Moving on, in the order of being shown in the article:

  2.  Delta-7 Aethersprite:
    • SWZ32_Obi-wan-Kenobi_pl.png

      (5) Obi-Wan Kenobi - Guardian of the Republic
      • When a friendly ship at range 0-2 spends a focus token, you may spend 1 Icon force. If you do, that ship gains 1 focus token.

    • SWZ32_plo-koon_pl.png

      (5) Plo Koon - Peaceful Mentor
      • At the beginning of the engagement phase, you may spend 1 Icon force and choose another friendly ship at range 0-2. If you do, you may transfer 1 of your green tokens to the chosen ship or you may transfer 1 orange token from the chosen ship to you.

    • SWZ32_saesee-tiin_pl.png

      (4) Saesee Tiin - Prophetic Pilot
      • When a friendly ship at range 0-2 reveals its dial, you may spend 1 Icon force. If you do, you may set that ship's dial to another manoeuvre of the same speed and difficulty.

    • SWZ32_Mace-Windu_pl.png

      (4) Mace Windu - Motherf*cker / Harsh Traditionalist
      • After you fully execute a red manoeuvre, recover 1 Icon force.
      • Private commentary: If the wording without "may" as it is in the PL version will stick, it should impact discussions such as this one about Oberos' Ability. The inability of actually regaining the force token should not prevent Mace Windu from performing a red manoeuvre, so it should be possible to resolve an effect even if recovery of a charge cannot really be executed.

  3.  V-19 Torrent Starfighter
Disclaimer: I will have to be creative with the translation of the names of these pilots, so please take them with a grain of salt.  Found the names in the original image filenames, yay!
    • SWZ32_kickback_pl.png

      (4) "Kickback" - Blue Four
      • After you perform Icon action barrel roll action, you may perform a red Icon action lock action.
      • Private commentary: Yes, this is literally a linked action as a pilot ability, move along.

    • SWZ32_odd-ball_pl.png

      (5) "Odd Ball" - CC-2237
      • After you fully execute a red manoeuvre or execute a red action, if there is an enemy ship in your Icon arc bullseye, you may gain a lock on it.

    • SWZ32_swoop_pl.png

      (3) "Swoop" - Blue Six
      • When a friendly small or medium ship fully executes a speed 3 - 4 manoeuvre, if it's at range 0-1, it may perform a red Icon action boost action.

    • SWZ32_axe_PL.png

      (3) "Axe" Blue Two
      • After you defend or perform an attack, you may choose a friendly ship at range 1 - 2 in your <Left Side Arc> or <Right Side Arc>. If you do, transfer 1 green token to that ship.
      • Private commentary: The 1:1 translation results in not actually specifying where from to transfer the token, but RAI is clear that it's this pilot's token. Still, looking forward to the RAW discussion if it goes like this in the English version of the card.

    • SWZ32_tucker_pl.png

      (2) "Tucker" - Blue Five
      • When a friedly ship at range 1 - 2 performs an attack against an enemy ship in your Icon arc standard front, you may perform a Icon action focus action.
      • Private commentary: My personal favourite of these, generates a simple, efficient and useful action economy and should work well for a filler ship.

And that's it! No upgrade cards spoiled in the article that we wouldn't have seen before somewhere in English. Hope it comes useful to you but I guess the English article may drop any time now.

4: when you perform any other action you can spend a force to do the purple one, like a linked action. Or you can just spend a force to do it on its own.

This would be my guess.

It's pretty strong if it does work that way.

Sadly, it's the option no. 1. Have been confirmed by our national (PL) distributor whom I've asked directly about it.
