Vassal Module v8.3.0 is out - Brand New Dial

Blog Post source: https://xwvassal.wordpress.com/2019/01/15/x-wing-vassal-module-8-3-0-brand-new-dials/

Complete list of changes:

New Dial feature:

  • Dials are now 2.0 style (full wheel visible when selecting a move) instead of 1.0 style (only 1 move shown, back plate shown to others while hidden)
  • Stronger anti-cheat measures built-in
  • Larger than before so the wheel can be seen at a distance
  • The front wheel plate image will now be added to the stuff the Content Checker looks for when a new ship trickles into the game
  • Reveal mode for all: the selected move appears larger in the center
  • Hidden mode for owner: changing the move with ‘,’ and ‘.’ changes the visible orientation of the dial and its selected move only for the owner
  • Hidden mode for non-owner: the full plate is still visible but locked in the initial orientation and an icon says the dial is in hidden mode
  • Dials can only be hidden/revealed by its owner who spawned it
  • Old style reveal still present: the movement is shown to all, the chat log says which ship and which movement happens
  • New style reveal with CTRL-S (the old style is still present) makes the linked ship automatically move with the chosen movement, if both the dial and the ship are on the map

Squashed Bugs:

  • Debug message that sometimes appeared when activating autofiring ranges is now gone
  • The Vulture-class Droid Fighter ship graphic no longer fails when the Content Checker tries to generate and keep it inside the module

Known issues:

1) 2nd edition damage deck will not go into the Observer window (marked 'O_O') deck tray - found a fix for the next version

2) Under unknown hard-to-reproduce conditions, sometimes the dial will cease to have its reveal+move link to its associated ship. As time goes on, it seems to become more likely. I have no firm clue as to why this happens, though I can start to investigate by attempting to play with a modified module version that outputs (to me only) the unique ID tags for both ship and dial and see if it becomes changed over time.

Trying out the auto maneuver from CTRL + S tonight and I gotta say....freaking awesome! Makes games and turns much faster along with easier. Amazing work as usual Mu0n. If there was anytime to get into XWing on Vassal people, it's never been easier.

Just to let you know, the new dials are awesome! It felt like the performance was also better. I often get very strong lags after some time (or while showing firing options/toggling arcs) despite increased memory allocation. It felt like this was much better now!

Known Issues:

1) the v8.3.0 version showing up as v8.2.95 in the launcher window == Yeah I've never figured out why it did this. If it bothers you, edit it, double click on the very first item, tweak the description (add a space and remove it) and save it back. It'll show properly in the launcher after. All of this is totally unnecessary and for all intents and measurements, you have 8.3.0

2) Rotating (changing the viewable orientation of the dial with leftarrow and rightarrow keys) will mess up your dial something fierce. Gotta investigate that one

3) Anyone revealing his owned dials on the map will still display *your* (even if you're another player, even if you're an observer!) name as revealing the dial. It's harmless but a little confusing
