shadespire/nightvault is not that bad (but it is not good either). They just hit the segment x-wing aim for - people wanting rather fast games that need a lot of experience but are not money sink RW of WFB are.

One point worth noting: Legion has 30 main expansions, RWM 34 thus far, so FFG may be less Legion-biased overall than we think - the two seem fairly balanced for expansions considering the fact you'd expect FFG to churn them out faster for a SW game so that's not really a surprise. This is quite a broad range of content for RWM considering it only went on sale (core set launch) April 2017 - I'd say it's definitely still young enough for FFG to be foolish to write it off- it would be very much lacking vision and faith in the product to consider it over so soon, likewise for fans of the game. Legion was released March 2018 so it's maybe not surprising that it had a wave of releases- another thing to remember is it's normal for products to have release wave cycles with quiet spells in between, so with FFG games it can be unwise to second guess games as alive/dead release-wise as with FFG especially you never really know.

It's not always a bad thing having the dormant periods though- if news was constant you'd maybe start to filter it out and get a bit fed up of it, if it has breathing space it can sometimes be more effective.

I don’t think they’re going to “say” anything directly.  You look at Battlelore and some of their other games that they’ve retired.  They’re available through their website, but they do nothing to promote it.  Their resources are prioritized around a few key license/game lines from what I can tell.  I think some of us are going to reach out to FFG though our own contacts to  gauge their interest and perspective around fan-made content, licensing, etc.  That will give us an idea about whether they view the game as splitting their player base (and therefore taking away from sales their other products) or splitting their development resources (which is a financial decision on their part).  I think most folks read the goodbye note from the developers as “this is the end”.  I don’t know this for a fact (maybe @Church14 can say something) and like most of us, I hope that they do develop more stuff.

Look at activity and releases. The game surged when new units came out, and then stalled.

No new releases means we can expect interest to linger and die.  Its really tough to get new players when they cant buy the product in local stores.

I'm all for dormant periods... I really wish FFG would say what they're intending though.

The fact that they decided to give last year's World's winners an alternate prize definitely suggests there isn't anything new coming.

Exactly. I have 130 + trays, no uthuk. Had to stop buying for some time. There is only so much wife's patience and spare money. And Time for painting. This game is not marketing hit but it is solid product with great replayability potential.

Just saying, when it was on sale, that was not the very best sign, either.

FYI I was never rooting against this game, but I have to admit every time I turned around, it was a 'nah'.  And let me tell you, I play some esoteric miniature games, like Wargods of Aegyptus (love it very much) and pick up miniatures for Star Fleet Battles, right up there with the most ancient of games (wasn't even designed for miniatures, but a chit based game).

Anyway, I do feel for everyone, and I'll say this...I loved Confrontation, my still most very favorite of all fantasy games ever.  I still play it with friends.  Add to that I still play Warhammer 6th and 8th edition with friends because we were tired of chasing releases for the point of only selling miniatures.

A 'dead' game is not necessarily a bad thing.  I'm sure FFG would love if people still bought their minis, and with the right group of people, you do not need game company releases to keep you going.  Sure, sure, I get it, it's better, but I've never seen constant releases versus ability to keep up to be ideal.  Honestly, I just think too many miniatures have to be sold to operate at huge scale...it's just not a hobby meant for that.  Sure, there's a few companies up there, but...and I dare say this...even Games Workshop is absolutely nothing on the scale of real toy companies, as big as it is in this industry.

Play it, love it, if it's good enough.  And the real play that matters is what you do locally to me, not some put together show or tournament at a convention, though they're fun too.

The difference with other "dead" games and Runewars is, that runewars neverlived. It started with a 2 player box, months later the units, that were in that box came out as single epansion packs, a year later the elvn starter box came out, some months later the units, that were in this box as single expansions....etc. then there was a rest for 9 months new units announced but long way to the shops, the second wave finally was not treanslated and distriubuted in non - english countries.

the units are "round", every faction has the same, ..., but still incomplete, compared to runewars boardgame and battle lore, and a joke against warhammer.

Runewars never lived and had no chance because of crazy marketing errors. they claimed the selling was low. what selling ? what was there to buy ?

i think we should start a petition and force ffg to announce if the game is dead or if new models will come this year.  to keep silent is again a coward marketing error. bad bad people, nothing in mind than dragging the money out of the purses for buried games....

Maybe you're specifically talking about a non-U.S. country, but in the U.S., the Latari starter box was released about half a year after the initial release, not a full year. After 1 year, all four factions were released. Unfortunately, it took much longer to give them equal diversity.

And in less than a year Legion now has as many total skus released as Runewars has total.

Yes, i am living in Germany. Here it came at least 4 month later. However, after all discussions, we should make a poll: do you think that there will be new models this year or not and never ?

I don't know what the results would be, but I don't think there will be anything new for Runewars Miniatures Game. I think thd line is done. I just wish I could buy all the expansions I want before they are unavailable.

Keep an eye out online.  I just picked up 4 boxes of ventala at half off.

Store or from a gamer user group? I just started playing/collecting after my initial Black Friday Core purchase and have bought from Amazon and some Facebook and Reddit groups for big discounts, missed a few deals too. I am still looking for a few to finish out my collection, figure get at least one of everything for now, although I have a massive Waiqar army

You can find it on Amazon, Miniature Market, eBay.  It’s out there.  You will also see folks selling whole armies (although this is less common). I pigged out on Black Friday and have enough to build just about any force I want for each of the 4 races.  😀

Ugh. Just talked to the one FLGS in my area that was doing some Runewars. They were told by their distributors that RW is totally dead, FFG just has not announced it in so many words. :(

And they wont announce it.  As long as they have stock to sell, they won't say that they are ending a game.  They will simply stop talking about it.

If this is true then it's really a jerk move on FFG's part not to say so. I don't care if they are trying to "move" the rest of their stock. It's just a small gesture, but would mean a lot to the fans who've been working to promote the game (and bought into the game with the expectation of long term support and growth).

If it's true FFG really lack faith in their own very good product - I still had a lot of the RWM items I'd buy over time and have spent a lot on it this year, only got the core set recently so if it has failed it must mean they did mess up on promoting it, was looking at some of the other rival games to check out this thought I had and finished up at the same conclusion- RWM is actually better as a game and there's a lot of detail on the minis- some really well designed figures. Why would you launch something like that and give it so little time to grow?

I'd like to be optimistic but sadly the verdict from the UK FLGS looks to be the same conclusion, not asked about it but-

one major supplier now only has the dice at a reduced price

another has a limited range, also now reduced, however so's some of the Star Wars stuff so this may be purely down to currently most/least popular items or sales rotation rather than something negative

But don't despair- even if they kill it off we can keep it alive

Worth pointing out though that Descent 2e vanished from shops I'd seen it in, then it was back, the games market is quite crowded so things do go and come back, for all we know RWM may be abandoned for now but they'll come back to it for a second roll of the dice in future, there's still lots of it on my wishlist so I'll still be looking to buy items, it may well be second hand or through web hunts as it's looking like I won't get it from my regular UK shops of preference should FFG stop selling it themselves. I found Rune Age way after most places no longer had it so I'm also sure we'll be able to find the RWM items we want even if FFG drop it, although that would get harder as time went by.

It could be wrong information from the distributors though- often queries about upcoming new games at flgs' suggest the links in the supply chain are sometimes as in the dark as we are- I have had shops think you can't get something older anymore only to find out you can, or even that it's discontinued when it's still being made, so who knows.

Might prioritise RWM over other FFG stuff just in case.

You can look up Wrath of Kings by CMON and see similar grief.  That game also pretty much had the writing on the wall at launch, and a small group of die hard fants.  The miniatures were better, even though CMON is not on the scale of FFG, but it's a pretty similar story regardless.

Reaper Miniatures tried their own hand at a fantasy miniature game years ago, and that failed.

There's a lot of games out there in miniature world that don't succeed.  I think getting people to pick up an initial burst of miniatures for a new game is easier.  Sustaining it for the long term, that's hard.

It's always possible we're about to enter a Descent wave, and there's also Journeys in Middle Earth and FFG are using that as a chance to decide what to do with RWM and haven't actually decided yet- Descent gained a sales boost after the app, so FFG may find a way to boost RWM further down the line, with FFG I only write something off for sure if FFG say so officially...

Lots of "we won't get anything new for Descent" then a new app adventure and a new deck with a new artwork for a known as-yet-unreleased character pop up, so we may be similarly surprised in future re RWM...

But no new minis/expansion and with a mini game you kinda want new minis. If FFG developed an app for RW and it keeps it around for years with no "new content", that would be awesome, but I have almost everything now and I can play as-is for decades.
