The RZ-2 A-Wing

Recommended Posts

I could see Swarm Tactics getting paired with another talent on the A-Wings if you have someone like Poe or Han also running with it.  There is something to say about Daisy Chaining the initiative 6 across your squadron for the shooting phase.  But I feel like Poe and Han would be better off with something else for a talent.

If you mean chaining the I6, I believe that doesn't work with 2.0

confused with Roark who can't chain anymore

Heroic/Crack or Heroic/Prockets/Marksmanship. Usually the former.

I tried running Poe/Tallie/L'ulo and it didn't work. I chopped off a bunch of upgrades and added another A-wing and it's muuuuuuuch better.

I've gone one further - Tallie/Lulo/Green/Green/Bastian

I think we should distinguish two cases here: I5 uniques and I3 generics. For the latter, Juke is out of the question entirely. So reducing to I5s (=L'ulo and Tallie):

  • L'ulo is constantly stressed and on 3/2 instead of 2/3. That means:
    • Juke is offensively strictly worse up to 3 dice, and the evade is defensively slightly better. And with Juke you surrender completely to dice variance, which is admittedly not that bad for 2 reds but worse for 3. L'ulo can even get to R1 where Juke gets again worse.
    • L'ulo will only have this advantage against I5 if with inibid (again expensive), or against lower I ships. According to the larger tournaments so far, the amount of I5s is really large and you will basically always have one to play against. To me that's too uncertain Juke usage to bank on it that much. The choice of focus+heroic is safer.
  • Tallie:
    • can get to 4 greens with her ability, where evade loses all defensive advantage over focus. Granted that is maybe rare, but something to take into consideration (also obstructed and r3, which is more frequent!)
    • Has the same PS problem.

Yep.

I noted L'ulo's dice difference in my first reply, as well as lower-Init ships.  For that matter, I also said I kinda like Crack/Heroic/Optics most.  But Juke does seem worth thinking about on High-Init ships, since it's one of few upgrades which can (but does not always) provide both offensive and defensive mods simultaneously.

For Tallie, Initiative is odd.  Juke works better when attacking first, but what most deep bidders want is to move second, so she's kind of got insurance against losing the bid.  I'd note that Nien Nunb--also Init 5 in Resistance--is someone else who doesn't necessarily mind moving first over other Init 5 ships, since it'll be easier for him to plan red moves with Pattern Analyzer.  A list unwilling to take a big bid might do well to plan on pilots who work decent when moving first or second.

I'll say again: I'm not convinced by Juke.  It's an interesting idea to think about which opens unique possibilities (passive offense and active defense).

Traditionally, Juke has only worked in niche situations.  Preventing an opponent from modifying their dice back (old Omega Leader, Hotshot lists... I flew a little Gunner/HSCP RAC back in the day, before Parattanni flooded the meta with Focus tokens).  When you have free Evade actions/tokens.  1e Juke/Accuracy Corrector Darth Vader was always a cute idea that almost-sorta-kinda worked, but only before the major VI 10/11 bug bit.

Maybe remove Lulo's crackshot for a tiny bid against those 200/200 lists

Just putting this out there, but the artwork is the last smile we ever see from Tallie before she dies (the most tragic death in TLJ). thats how bad heroic is. it didn't even save her in the movie.

She died while still in the hangar, so her EPTs had no chance to trigger.
Had the "Raddus" been equipped with Heroic everything could have been different :D

oh okay fair. still the most tragic death in TLJ tho. #RIPTallie

Looking at the artwork one sees how she could have become a better pilot than Poe, Luke, Vader or pretty much anyone in the movies/books/cartoons.

She'd managed to put on her suit, tie up her scarf, put on flawless make-up, put on a helmet, and STILL be ready in her cockpit before Poe even managed to get to the hangar. The Woman.

To be fair, Poe needed to do his hair. (in the lore Poe saw her as having the most potential to be equal to him in skill if not better)

Maybe she returns in cyborg form. Then maybe threepio could coordinate to her :)

hey, as long as it's still Hermonie Corfield playing her I'm fine with that.

This whole thread just reminds me how bloody disappointed I have been with the RZ-1 A-Wing.

I hadn’t realized that the RZ-2 was getting the double EPT until this thread.

And the rotating arc.

And a tech slot.

And higher initiative pilots.

And all but the I1 are the same points, or cheaper, than the equivalent RZ-1 pilot.

Either these are undercosted (unlikely for a 2 dice attack) or he RZ-1 is severely overcosted/ needs more toys.

Honestly this looks much like what I’d want the RZ-1 to be.

Second EPT, decrease in cost - easily done via app. But the pilots... I do hope it will be re-released as soon as possible.

Roark chain doesn't (his abilty says engage at I7). Swarm tactics chain off of an native I6 does though due Swarm Tactics stating treat as and not engage at.
