Echo Base Troopers

Recommended Posts

While I don't know if they'll be released anytime soon, they'd probably twin well with mudtroopers.

The mudtroopers are thrown into a meatgrinder  on Mimban and seem fairly expendable.

On the other hand, the Hoth troopers are the poor AT-AT fodder who try to buy time with ineffective weaponry to get important people evacuated.

They are the lovable, hopeless losers of both factions :)

While I agree that the Swamp Troopers (Canonical name for Mudtroopers) share the "into the meat grinder" aesthetic with the Hoth Rebels, we aren't likely to see SOLO very soon as they still have some rather important and frequently seen units in the OT to cover.

I'm sure we'll get Mudtroopers at some point, probably alongside a Cloud Riders unit, as part of a SOLO wave.

I still believe the next Corps the empire are getting will be the Naval Troopers to counter the Fleet Troopers that are already in-game.

By that logic the Rebels would get the Echo base/Hoth troopers anyway to counter the snow troopers.

"Counter" might not be the right word. That implies they are the way to beat them on the table. In the classical sense that cavalry is the counter to artillery, artillery is the counter to infantry, infantry is the counter to cavalry.

Yeah, I still think these guys when I hear Swamp Trooper- Image result for jedi knight swamp trooper

It was my skin of choice for Multiplayer.
Also, the action figures are called mudtroopers- merchandising wins over canon any time.  It's not like anyone mentioned the word 'Ewok' in a movie after all.
Both are canon I guess, though one is more formal.

Abilities maybe, default weapons unlikely since the Hoth troopers are armed with the A-280, but probably different special weapons.

I believe that is untrue. IIRC the guys on Hoth use the A-280C (I think known as A-295 in legends) among other stuff as the DC-17(?) and the unnamed high recoil weapon (heavy weapon option?). The A-280 first appearance was in RotJ (again IIRC). They were both made from different real life weapons and easily distinguishable buy their shoulder stocks. So they could very well give the Hoth troopers a different weapon.

If you look hard they use a little bit of this and that. Even pistols are seen braced against the trench wall. They can have whatever is best for the game at the time. And they almost certainly won't be called "Hoth" rebels or "Echo Base" rebels anyways, so they can have any gun. They'll be rebels in cold weather gear not rebels from that particular posting.

But if they do come out... I'll have to commission a custom snowy geo-hex table maybe...  with trenches that go INTO the table surface. Sigh. There goes more $$$ flapping in the breeze.

According to Wookiepedia Empire Strikes back was the first appearance of the A-280 as well as the A-280C. The name was provided in the " reference book Ultimate Star Wars published in April 28, 2015."

Yes, old canon the A-280 was first in ROTJ, but new canon, it was also on Hoth.

Yea like the galaxy has like a million times the habitable worlds and species than it should according to the drake equation and the empire controls all of them and has probably a few billion personnel but god forbid they have a tenth the number of uniforms in their army our real life army does...

Yeah, "match" perhaps.

But then again I doubt rebels will be getting a heavy bipedal walker, or the imperial an aircraft-style speeder - nor would I want them to, I prefer some asymmetry.

Thanks for the clarification. I always thought the A-280 props were made for RotJ kind of recreating the A280C.

I've actually brought this up before. A single year in the empire is more man-hours than all of human history on earth. Think about how very little most people know about the vast majority of the world in their own lifetime, let alone how little Google knows about all human history. Anything could fit unnoticed into Star Wars.

Make a new keyword that gives them a red die defense while in heavy cover and unhindered. Boom. There is your corps. Maybe defense surge and same weapon as rebel mooks. Give them a leader heavy option and a portable launcher.

The more keywords there are, the more opaque the game gets. Just because they were defeated in a trench in a part of a movie doesn't make them harder to hit in cover than anyone else. The more I think about it, I think they should just be vaguely better and more expensive than other rebels corps.

The only way I could see a bonus for having cover is if they had a heavy weapon that virtually required being setup in a static location.

Have it have a reconfigure state that makes it stationary then? I still think unhindered would be nice on them. Some mobile infantry that can dig in easily would be cool to have.

Some kind of free recover actions is the one I keep thinking of then forgetting. Honestly though they can stat them however, if they're corps I'll immediately buy 3 and eventually buy 6.

Now if we could get Reikan or Han in a parka or something...

I'm going with these. Rieekan is on the "upcoming" list, alongside Hoth-style versions of the troopers and commandos.
