Putting a Face to the Name: Pilots (Update: Resistance Transport)

Recommended Posts

Serissu was a Bothan female on Tansari Point station, and a flight instructor for the Car’Das smuggling organization.  Car’Das was supposedly on par with Black Sun in terms of influence.  Serissu originated in Star Wars Galaxies (along with the rest of Tansari Point pilots), and served as an NPC instructor who taught players the basic flight mechanics.  Like everything from Star Wars Galaxies, she is Legends.

Laetin A’shera was the next mission-giver at Tansari Point, after a player had finished Serissu’s missions.  He was also affiliated with Car’Das (an Enforcer), and was a human male.  He too is Legends.

Inaldra was a female Twi’Lek who was head of Tansari Point station.  Tansari Point Station orbited the world of Ord Mantell.  She was so done with Black Sun’s shenanigans.  She is Legends.

Quinn Jast was a fortune seeker, per their X-Wing v2 card.  There is no other information regarding the pilot.  They seem to have been created for X-Wing by FFG.  (Legends?)

Sunny Bounder was a human female swoop-racer from Corellia.  She was also the leader of the Black Seraphs, a swoop-racer gang that preyed on novices.  She was created by FFG to serve as the main antagonist for the Suns of Fortune book, a supplement for Edge of the Empire.  There is no picture of her, but she is described as tall and thin.  (Legends).

Genesis Red was a crime lord on Tansari Point Station’s lower levels.  He was also the leader of the Genesis Red gang.  He serves as an early-stages boss that the player(s) were sent to kill, in order to thwart his plans.  Genesis Red is referred to as male, but had no canon species.  He could spawn as any species, and could even be female, so he was something of a “Dread Pirate Roberts.”  Below is a randomly generated depiction of him from Star Wars Galaxies.  Legends.

Talonbane Cobra was a Black Sun ace in a Kihraxz that attacks Tansari Point, that the player is tasked with killing.  Officially it is considered that Car’Das smugglers killed him in battle.  Taonbane Cobra, like Genesis Red, has no canonical species or even gender.  Therefore Talonbane probably is a Dread Pirate Rogers, based upon how many times he attacked Tansari Point and died.  Legends.

Additional information about Jake is that he flew for the Republic during the Clone Wars as a starfighter pilot and became a flight instructor after the war until he found out he had to train pilots to become killers causing him to retire. He went on to join a Rebel cell flying a modified R-22 Spearhead. Additionally in Legends he is first identified in the video game Rebel Assault.

Viktor Hel was a bounty hunter first appearing in a short story for the No Disintigrations supplement for Edge of the Empire.  He is a famous Corellian bounty hunter, and owns a shop named “Hel’s Outfitting” on Corfai.  Although the art is no labeled as being Viktor, the artist, Joel Hustak, confirmed on instagram that the artwork below is him.  Legends.

Graz the Hunter was a male Gank bounty hunter.  Ganks are noted for being especialy prone to violence.  Graz was an efficient and methodical bounty hunter who, unlike most Ganks, avoided collateral damage.  He appears in Fly Casual, a supplement for Edge of the Empire.  Graz is Legends, but the Gank species is Canon.  Han refers to them as “Gank Killers” during Hoth, while telling Leia he’s leaving to pay off Jabba.

Captain Jostero appears to be a pilot made by FFG for X-Wing.  There does not seem to be any other information for them.

Worth adding that even though Jake Farrel appears on screen in RotJ, he is now entirely LEGENDS.  While that particular actor is in an A-Wing and breaks off at Lando's command, who knows if he'll someday be confirmed to be named Jake Farrel or if he'll be renamed to a new character or if Disney sources will just ignore him entirely.  His Endor callsign (Green 4) has already been reassigned to Shara Bey.

I wouldn't be surprised to find some future Disney source that identifies that on-screen character as "Big" Bob Seastriker or something, and then tells us he is Joph's dad.  In some sense, it would make more sense, just as retconning the Y-Wing in the DSII run to be Norra Wexley (Gold Squadron) instead of Horton Salm (Gray Leader) made sense, since Lando did command Red Group and Gold Group to follow him, while Green Group presumably was with Arvel dealing with the SSD and Gray Group was off doing something else.  So it would make eventual sense to have all of the fighters in the DSII run (Wedge, Lando, Norra, Kier Santage (LEGENDS), and the two A-Wings) eventually all be Red or Gold members.

He has been confirmed canon thanks to the book below, though his call sign has been changed to Gold 4. Kier Santage is also canon but aside from him being identified as the pilot from the film we know nothing about him.

I felt like doing shuttles today so here are the Lambda, and Upsilon pilots.

Captain Kagi, is from ROTS. Palpatine ordered Mas Amedda to inform Captain Kagi to prepare his Theta class shuttle to go to Mustafar.

default card

Berisse Sai, she is from Lost Stars and is a supporting character who was friends with Ciena Ree. She went to the Lothal Imperial Academy, and was stationed aboard the Devastator, and was sent out with Ciena Ree to retrieve Vader after the Battle of Yavin where the two found out about the Death Star's destruction with Cienna Ree having lost a number of her friends aboard the station. Sai and Cienna Ree were transferred to the Executor, with Sai thinking the second Death Star would be a symbol to honor those who died on the first. She was aboard the Executor when it crashed into the second Death Star.

default cardlatest?cb=20180117221116

Jendon, he is from ROTJ as a background character. He was was the first pilot to test pilot the Tie Defender, and was a member of Onyx Squadron as Onyx 1, and flew Vader's Lambda shuttle. LEGENDS

Canonically he is just an unnamed background character.

default cardlatest?cb=20080315225240

As a bonus, here is a Lambda pilot who didn't make the jump to 2.0, and was replaced with Lt. Sai.

Yorr, he is from ROTJ as a background character. He was a pilot fast tracked through the system after the destruction of the Death Star, was part of the Imperial Demonstration Team, flew many Tie prototype fighters, was a part of Onyx Squadron flying as Onyx 2 and was the co-pilot of Vader's Lambda shuttle. LEGENDS

Like Jendon he is just a background character with no name in the new canon at the moment.

Captain-yorrlatest?cb=20071002224249

Jump forward a few years and we have the Upsilon shuttle.

Captain Cardinal or Archex, is from the Phasma novel. He was born on Jakku, where after the Battle of Jakku he and other children were invited by Brendal Hux, General Hux's father, to come with the Imperials where he was then trained to be a stormtrooper. He ended up on Phasma's homeplanet, Parnassos, and after some events Phasma was brought along with her becoming an instructor, sharing that role with Cardinal, for the stormtroopers, something that upset him. Her relationship with his father figure Brendal Hux furthered his rivalry with her. After Brendal Hux's sudden death he investigated the matter and found out that Phasma had done the deed, he tried to have her face judgement but General Hux didn't care, resulting in him facing off with her where he lost and was left to die, though was saved by a woman, Moradi, who was from Parnassos and had helped him get the evidence of her betrayal. Moradi then took him to another Star Destroyer where he could be treated before she escaped with a ship back to Parnassos, with him ultimately joining the Resistance as an agent and would join Vi Moradi on her mission to Batuu.

default card350?cb=20170814231647

Stridan, he is from TFA, though only acknowledged in the visual guide. All we know is he was a pilot in the First Order.

default card

Jober Tavson, he is from TLJ. He flew Kylo Ren's shuttle over Crait where Kylo commanded the battle.

default card330?cb=20180204012753

Dormitz, he is from TFA, though only acknowledged in the visual guide. All we know is he was a pilot in the First Order.

default card

Thanisson, he is from TFA. He was a petty officer on Kylo's Star Destroyer who reported the theft of the TIE/sf when Finn and Poe were stealing the craft, he and those in the hanger command center were flung from their seats from Finn firing the Tie's turret, and while not confirmed he is likely dead. The actor who portrays him also voiced Ferb from Phineas and Ferb, which additionally did a Star Wars special where his character became a sith after being shot by a Sithinator, it makes more sense in context.

Seeing how we have the A-Wing, X-Wing, and Y-Wing covered in this list I went ahead and did the last of the Rebel OT film starfighters.

Ten Numb, he is from ROTJ where he was a background character during the scene where Ackbar presents his plan to attack the Second Death Star, and while scenes of him in a cockpit were filmed they weren't used. In canon he participated in the Battle of Endor helping destroy two Star Destroyers and afterwards participated in the celebration on the planet's surface. In Legends he was promoted to Blue Leader after the battle though ended up being captured by the Empire and was killed during an interrogation.

default cardImage result for ten numb

Braylen Stramm, he is stories in the Star Wars Insider magazine, he defected from the Empire and joined the Rebellion where he flew for Blade Squadron and was in a secret relationship with Gina Moonsong, who is a likely addition for new B-Wing pilots, and eventually ended up as the leader of Blade Squadron. He flew at the Battle of Jakku in an X-Wing.

default card350?cb=20150822161143

And since I'm doing the B-Wing might as well do the 1st edition pilots too.

Keyan Farlander, he is the protagonist from the X-Wing video game that the miniature game takes inspiration from. He is similar to Maarek Steele in that he flew many ships during his time with the Rebellion with the B-Wing being his final ship. His hometown was destroyed by the Empire in which his parents were killed and his sister was horribly burned, going to a rally he was moved by Mon Mothma's speech and joined the Rebellion as a starfighter pilot. He participated in the Battle of Yavin where he flew the Y-Wing that survived the battle, this role has sense been given to Evaan Verlaine, as well as participating in the Battle of Hoth and Battle of Endor. He went on to train as a Jedi and serve the New Republic becoming a general by the time of the Yuuzan Vong's invasion at which point he participated in battles to reclaim Coruscant. LEGENDS

latest?cb=20140319103748Image result for keyan farlander art

Nera Dantels, she is from the Empire comic series, she was a smuggler who helped the Rebellion acquire R2 and R5 astromechs before Yavin when they were critically low on the droids, and while at Yavin she started a relationship with Biggs Darklighter that was cut short when he was killed at the Battle of Yavin. She went on to help the Rebellion, going on missions, and even flying as part of Dagger Squadron in a B-Wing to help rescue Luke and Leia before she became a regular of the squadron. LEGENDS

Dace Bonearm, he is from A Hunter's Fate: Greedo's Tale. He was a bounty hunter known to associate with the bounty hunter IG-72, and met with Greedo in his townhouse after the Rodian had accepted the bounty on Han Solo. LEGENDS

default card

Palob Godalhi, he is from Rebel Dawn the third book in the Han Solo trilogy. He was the son of a decorated constable who worked as the chief aide to Winfrid Dagore, when Dagore was captured by Dace Bonearm and IG-72 Palob took possession of the Moldy Crow which he delivered to the Rebellion where it was given to Jan Ors. He went on to write history books with his father and ended up becoming the Master Historian to the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances, the successor state to the New Republic. The art below is of Janu Godalhi, Palob's father who was portrayed by Pablo Hidalgo in ROTS in a background scene while Palob was created beforehand as a reference to Pablo due to his work with the Westend Games RPG. Incidently the art is a sketch done by Pablo Hidalgo. LEGENDS

Torkil Mux, he is from the Shinbone Showdown, a young reader's book. He worked for Jabba the Hutt as a miner who used walking plants as slave labor though would notably keep a portion of the gems he had mined kept for himself rather than sending them to Jabba. When Han and Chewie arrived to pick up a shipment they found it to be light, Han distracted the man while Chewie followed the walking plants to Torkil's ship resulting in the wookie stealing it and Han escaping with the Falcon, the two taking the gems while letting the walking plants take the HWK-290 to Kashyyyk. Rexler Brath, he was mentioned in the New Essential Guide to Vehicles, and he was the squadron leader of Onyx Squadron which was made up of pilots who had flown and survived at least 20 missions. LEGENDS

Iran Ryad, she is from Star Wars: Galaxies. She was a politician in the Empire, who in her free time took up flying as a hobby. After the Battle of Endor she went on to give up her career as a politician and became a pilot full time, leading her squadron to attack any ship that entered Imperial space unannounced. After being accused of treason she was hunted down and killed by the red baron himself, Soontir Fel. LEGENDS

Broak Vessery, he is from Isard's Revenge. He had two Tie Defender squadrons under his command and served Ysanne Isard, he and his squadron rescued Rogue Squadron and blamed himself for a few casualties due to lack of ability, he then taught Rogue Squadron how to fly Tie Defenders for a mission. After the battle Isard died and he and his intact two squadrons fled. LEGENDS

Corran Horn, he is originally from a West End Games adventure journal, though he went on to be a fairly prominent character in post ROTJ books. He has the longest character entry of a non-film character so far at 78 pages for his biography alone. He was originally a part of Corsec or the Correlian Security Force but after coming into conflict with an Imperial Intelligence officer after the Battle of Endor he fled Corellia to avoid execution. He went on to join the New Republic and became a part of Rogue Squadron, though after the New Republic wouldn't allow them to go after Isard he led Rogue Squadron into resigning to fight her themselves, only for them to rejoin the New Republic some time after. When his wife was kidnapped he trained to be jedi, rescued her, and after a few years and peace was established with the Imperial Remnant he resigned from the New Republic to become a Jedi instructor. When war broke out with the Yuuzhan Vong he returned to the New Republic to fight the threat, and once that war was over he resigned again to serve as a master of the Jedi Council. LEGENDS

Gavin Darklighter, he is from the X-Wing book series. He was Biggs' younger cousin who grew up in the man's shadow, being only 10 when Biggs died. He went on to join the New Republic and became a member of Rogue Squadron, following Corran Horn when the squadron's members resigned to fight Isard before they were rejoined afterwards. He originally planned to marry a Bothan woman, and fellow pilot but after reports of her death he married a human woman a few years later. When Wedge retired he took over command of Rogue Squadron, went on to recruit Jaina Solo to the squadron, and fought in the Yuuzhan Vong war before being transferred to fleet command where he climbed the ranks of the New Republic, and later Galactic Alliance, with him eventually becoming the commanding officer of Galactic Alliance Marines. LEGENDS

Wullffwarro, he like his ship is from Rebels. He fought for the Republic during the Clone Wars and participated in the Battle of Kahyyyk, but after the war like many wookies was taken prisoner and ended up on Kessel working in the mines before being freed by the Spectres.

default card345?cb=20140927142438

Lowhhrick, he is from Edge of the Empire. His sister and nephew were killed by Trandosians, attempting to get his vengeance he went after their killers though was captured and was forced to become a gladiator. He eventually ended up belonging to Teemo the Hutt, though was able to form a friendship with a medical droid 41-VEX while he was there. He, 41-VEX, and a few others escaped from the Hutt and stole the Krayt Fang, a YT-1300 as they fled Tatooine. LEGENDS

You missed the part where he duelled a Yuuzhan Vong commander, and one of their best warriors, one on one to decide the fate of an entire planet and won. Only for the Vong to renege on the deal and turn the surface into toxic goo with a bioweapon.

Still a total badass move on Corran's part, though.

I don't think he ever actually married Asyr, did he? They just talked about it, and the possibility of adopting kids.

Also, Asyr didn't die. She bailed out and was rescued. Rather than reveal that to Gavin, she went underground to try and change Bothan society because their political system was super opposed to Asyr and Gavin's relationship.

Also I'm pretty sure the woman he eventually married was the adoption case worker he met after deciding to go ahead with the plans for adoption he and Asyr had made, which I always found kinda weird.

I still love that one of the starter player characters from EotE made it in to X-Wing.

I'd love it if Pash, the pilot, could also make it in somewhere (future Scum Falcon pilot?), though it'd be confusing if we ever got Pash Cracken into the game. Which I hope we do.

Maybe we could get Zal Artha as a Rebel pilot instead.

Still loving all the pics, @Animewarsdude. Keep em coming. TIE Interceptor, Bomber and Decimator next?

I thought about it but didn't want to make the his entry too long. But you are right it was a cool move on his part.

I was mistaken, I'll correct it as the page says they were ready to be married.

I know she didn't die, but he didn't know that. I thought  after her 'presumed dead' bit might come off a bit more him not knowing she was dead and just decided to look for someone else rather than looking into it.

Maybe? Her entry on the wiki is like 3 sentences so it felt like there wasn't all that much need to talk about her much when his relationship with Asyr was clearly more important to him overall.

No, of course he wouldn't fly the Scum Falcon, he needs to be a pilot option for the YT-2000! :P

Come on FFG, give we need our third X-Wing series protag and the iconic ship from the game!

I planned on doing Imperial or Scum next so I'll go ahead and do Imperial then. If I do the Interceptor I'll likely do the 1st edition pilots too and 2 entries for characters who are likely ones that will be added for 2nd edition.

Soontir Fel, he is from the Rogue Squadron comic series. He came from humble origins and flew for the Empire as a Tie pilot but after an event out of his control he was sent to a lackluster and poor 181st squadron which he went on to revive and turn into one of the deadliest squadrons serving the Empire earning him the Baron of the Empire title. Around that time he married Wynssa Starflare a famous actress or as she was known by her real name Syal Antilles, Wedge's sister. After the Battle of Endor he continued to serve the Empire and due to Isard's plot he was captured by the New Republic at Brentaal, frustrated with the Empire's corruption he joined the New Republic flying as part of Rogue Squadron. He'd fly many successful missions before he was captured by Isard and sent to Thrawn who informed him about the threats in the Unknown Regions causing him to fly as part of the Empire of the Hand where he fought against the threats in the Unknown Regions. Thrawn also went to go on to clone Fel for his attack campaign against the New Republic.

Fel would raise his family in the Unknown Regions and when the Yuuzhan Vong invaded he'd send his son and some of the Empire of the Hand to help fight against them. Fel went on to serve the Chiss Ascendancy when the Empire of the Hand was dissolved. His son would eventually go on to be the leader of the Imperial Remant, with his descendants ruling as Emperor. LEGENDS

Turr Phennir, he is from the Rogue Squadron comics. He was recruited into the squadron by Fel, and flew many missions together even flying at the Brentaal even though he had tried to convince Fel to seize the planet and become a warlord rather than being loyal to Isard, Fel refused and after the battle Turr became the squadron leader of 181st due to Fel being captured by Rogue Squadron. He went on to join the Imperial Remnant and was sent on a mission to bring a planet to their cause and despite winning the hearts of the locals and pledging himself to the nation state of Cartann when its leader declared war on the rest of the planet the planet ultimately joined the New Republic after Rogue Squadron backed the other side and shot down Turr's wingmen, leading Turr to flee. He later joined the Confederation of Planets, a group of planets that seceded from the Galactic Alliance, though in the end that too fell and he served as a representative of the group during a unification summit. Fel's Wrath or as his friends call him DS-181-3 (He doesn't have good friends), he is a background extra from ROTJ that was identified and named through Decipher's Star Wars card game. He studied under Fel and was his wingman, often having to keep his distance so Fel could manuver, he was present when Vader arrived on the second Death Star and he flew during the Battle of Endor. Fel's Wrathlatest?cb=20061120110245

Tetran Cowall, he is from the X-Wing series of books. He was a Holodrama actor, who when he found trouble getting worked was hired by the Warlord Zsinj to serve as an impostor Soontir Fel, which he did well enough to fool Wedge when the two met, and lead an fake 181st Squadron. LEGENDS

Lorrir, he is from the X-Wing book series specifically Isard's Revenge. He was noted as a mediocre pilot, at least in comparison to his peers, and thought that Fel had betrayed the Empire at Brentaal. On Ciutric he was ordered to fly a shuttle to trick Rogue Squadron into thinking the clone Isard was aboard it, though Wedge identified his flying due to how the shuttle tried to dodge shots and Lorrir ended up getting shot down though he survived. Carnor Jax, he is from the Crimson Empire comics. He was an Imperial Sovereign Protector also known as a Royal Guard Champion, he was on Corsucant during the Battle of Endor. After Palpatine's death he began to train under Dark Lady of the Sith Lumiya as her sith apprentice. He hoped to become the next Emperor and when Palpatine's clones showed up he hunted down the lasts of them and killed all but one of the Royal Guard in a surprise attack. He chased the last one, Kir Kanos, down and ended up in a final showdown where he was killed. LEGENDS

Now these two following characters haven't been added to the game seem like very likely inclusions due to their presence in Rebels, with Vult Skeris flying an interceptor and later a defender, and in Lost Stars with Thane being in the game and her flying an Interceptor for Armada.

Vult Skerris, he is from Rebels. He was an ace pilot acting as a flight instructor at Skystrike Academy where he flew a Tie Interceptor with red markings. Some time after he was chosen by Grand Admiral Thrawn to be a test pilot for the Tie Defender, which he used to try and hunt down Mon Mothma, and the Tie Defender Elite. During the Battle of Lothal he met his fate at the hands of Hera.

Ciena Ree, is from Lost Stars and is one of the book's duotagonists. She was an Imperial pilot who was childhood friends with Thane and later lovers with. She served aboard the Devastator when she learned of the Death Star's destruction along with Sai when they were sent to retrieve him and his starfighter. Afterwards she'd be transferred to Vader's new flagship the Executor. Despite being disillusioned with the Empire, with their use of the Death Star and the false accusation against her mother that resulted in her being sentenced to hard labor, Ciena continued to serve the Empire out of a sense of duty and oath. She flew at the Battle of Endor and was critically wounded when trying to help fellow pilots retreat from the battle but survived after some care. At the Battle of Jakku she in command of a Star Destroyer, which when boarded she sent crashing into the planet though was 'captured' by Thane before it crashed sparing her life which resulted in her being taken into New Republic custody where he promised to wait for her no matter what now that they were free of the Empire while the Imperials thought she perished during the battle and lauded her as being a upstanding Imperial officer.

Below is her official FFG art and an image of her from the manga.

Out of curiosity, would people prefer I keep the entries on the characters short and sweet or be more descriptive like some of my more recent posts?

You're laying out the background info for pilots from Canon and Legends, and there allot of people who are not familiar with more than just the core movies so what you're doing is a big help to them to get past the "Who the heck is this?" portion of looking at the card. :) The more descriptive posts are nice.

Nice post, loving this whole thread! Thanks everyone who's putting this together.

Wanted to comment, I don't have a quote/proof of this but I'm pretty sure Graz is the guy on the Contraband Cybernetics card (I think it was in the sourcebook he's from?)
